Official Announcements / Forum upgraded Nov 20, 2017
« Last post by mouser on November 20, 2017, 08:43 PM »
I just updated the forum with new smf 2.015 release, and it forced me to move to some new forum code that I had written to work with the new dc cms server codebase before I was ready.
So there may still be some oddities on the forum -- if you see any going forward please let me know.

The good news is we are one step closer to moving to new website cms.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: VMware Workstation 14 Pro 40% off today
« Last post by mouser on November 20, 2017, 03:05 PM »
I use it for several things..

First, I use it so I can test my own software on different versions of Windows (or linux), at different display settings, etc.

Second, I use it to test downloaded software so I don't have to install it on my main machine to test it.

Third, I use it to run a sandboxed/isolated machine that I use to manage some financial stuff for my condominium building so that it is isolated from my main pc.

Keep in mind that there are other virtual machine software apps, some are free (VirtualBox, etc.) -- and I make no claim that VmWare is the best (though I suspect it is, with a price to match) -- it's just what I am used to and it has always done well by me.  If you are only using such a thing occasionally then one of the free alternative virtual machines would probably suit you well.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Images pasted into onenote are half size
« Last post by mouser on November 20, 2017, 11:07 AM »
This can be fixed going forward by changing the internally stored DPI of captured screenshots -- go to the "Image File Format" tab and change the dpi (try 96 if it's higher).
This should fix NEW screenshots but not older ones.

Let me know if that helps.

Find And Run Robot / Re: #filecontents FILEPATH -- how does it work?
« Last post by mouser on November 19, 2017, 01:12 PM »
Maybe when I thought of that command I was thinking about Launchbar Commander.. The overlap in functionality is large enough that I often confuse myself between the two of them.. I will check and add the functionality if it doesn't exist yet..

I will implement this.. However I believe there is already a virtual command in FARR that launches a command script and grabs the output to show as a result list, which is basically what you are interested in (though in your case your want to have a script that saves to a file and then have farr read that file as a filecontents).

If you visit a German or English website talking about "the Cloud" bullshit, this extension will replace that bullshit by "other people's computers" so you can easily see why the bullshit is bullshit.
lol.  ;D

Yeah I love that Arm-R-Seal stuff... it's super thin so it takes lot's of coats, but it goes on very smooth.

a dice tower

Actually this dice tray was built to precise dimensions to accommodate a plastic dice tower I have:

But yeah it might be fun to make a homemade wood dice tower..

I think that last option works in both cases, doesn't it?

Yes -- assuming that when you donated you visited the link you were sent to upgrade your forum account so the forum knows you donated.

Latest project, a small 7x5 inch dice tray with cork bottom:

Considerably easier to build than an 8ft cabinet.

Hi Peter.

You are right, it's a feature that needs to be added.. It's long been on my todo list along with a general revamp of Process Tamer..  I hope to get to this soon.

General Software Discussion / New faster Firefox browser released
« Last post by mouser on November 15, 2017, 01:58 AM »
Mozilla is getting some attention for a big new revamp of their Firefox browser that is supposed to be much faster and more memory efficient..

Their official blurb:
Firefox Quantum is over twice as fast as Firefox from 6 months ago, built on a completely overhauled core engine with brand new technology stolen from our advanced research group, and graced with a beautiful new look designed to get out of the way and let you do what you do best: surf a ton of pages, open a zillion tabs, all guilt free because Firefox Quantum uses less memory than the competition. Your computer will thank you.

Lots of reviews all over the web.. Who has tried it and has some thoughts?

A full fledged backup tool seems excessive for this task.  One of skrommels or skwires AHK wonders seems like it would fit the bill.

Living Room / Re: For those with a CrashPlan...
« Last post by mouser on November 12, 2017, 10:54 AM »
Yeah for 1 pc, they all seem to work out to about the same.. It's only when you want to back up multiple pcs that crashplan (and some of the others) become completely unreasonable in terms of cost.

Since I have separate backup solution for full drives, I'm much more interested in having something that is very frequently backing up versions of documents (text, data, code) that I am working on, and I'd like to be able to use it for a few pcs at once.  In reality I almost never use anything but my desktop pc, so I might get by with only using online backup for my main pc, but it irks me to not have the option to add other pcs for a reasonable cost.

I still have 60 days left on my crashplan service, so I'll be keeping my eye open from now until then for any special deals on SpiderOak.

By the way, testers of the beta cms should frequently do Ctrl+F5 to refresh pages and reload css, as I am messing with css files constantly, and you will still have old css files cached unless you do.

Recent work has been on improving the sidebar internal "ad" boxes, so they pop-up a little better.
