How about mouser's LaunchBar Commander? (That's what I used to replace the 2nd toolbar on my machine)
3054
if you have the google toolbar for firefox, make sure you have the google start page turned off. It caches its thumbnails to the same database file as your bookmarks and history, and the bigger that file gets the more problems you will have.

I stopped having problems in both Windows and Ubuntu after disabling the start page in the toolbar settings and deleting the bookmarks database (places.sqlite) and restoring my bookmarks from backup. (I also reclaimed over a gig of space on Windows by doing that)

If you want a bar to hold more shortcuts, you can easily do that in windows by making a folder of shortcuts and then dragging it from explorer to the edge of the screen you want it on. (this has been possible since at least Win98)

Windows will allow you to have up to 3 of them (plus the taskbar), one on each edge. The only difference is that the extra ones won't have a start button, tray, or running application buttons.

Developer's Corner / Re: What's your Programming Language?
« Last post by app103 on November 18, 2009, 02:17 PM »
There are some downsides to using it also IME.  I attempted to replace Delphi with Lazarus and VS with SharpDevelop for my personal use on my projects... and am now back to Delphi and Visual Studio.

Oh, I am learning all about those downsides, as I am using Lazarus for my NANY project.  :-\ The ONLY reason for my use of it is as a learning experience and for possibly granting the wishes of some Mac users. (can't do that with Delphi)

I'm curious about delphi... is it also an open source language?
Not actually. http://en.wikipedia....i/Embarcadero_Delphi

The Delphi IDE & compiler is not free or open source, this is true, but the base language is Object Pascal, of which there is a free open source compiler & IDE available: Free Pascal/Lazarus

There are some benefits to using that over Delphi, in that it is possible to compile your code to run natively on more than just Windows. (code once, compile for anywhere)

General Software Discussion / Re: How do you launch stuff?
« Last post by app103 on November 17, 2009, 01:24 PM »
At startup I use my own Lacuna Launcher instead of a bunch of stuff in my startup folder.

Then for everything else I use a combination of the biggest and scariest taskbar on the planet and mouser's LaunchBar Commander...but mostly the taskbar.

(I hate the start menu!)

I would probably use farr if it were smack in my face where I wouldn't forget I have it...like a deskbar. But mouser says he won't do that.  :(

You could try Skrommel's Toddler Trap, which catches any stray keyboard input you might activate by mistake.

One of my keyboards has a Turbo key that when combined with F11, locks the keyboard till you press that combo again.

- Specify location of the taskbar buttons: top or bottom (new buttons apper at top or bottom

That can already be done. I have mine in the middle, with toolbars of buttons both above and below.

Just unlock the taskbar and grab the line and drag it below/above the taskbar buttons.

Well there is a way to force lala to accept your copy of the file for your library, but it involves completely changing the tags to something that does not exist (make up totally random stuff for artist-title-album) and doing a manual upload, one track at a time when you catch one that they messed up on.

After it is uploaded and in your library, edit it again to change it to what it should be.

I had to do this for a few live tracks that lala kept shoving the studio version in my library.

The truth is, this is an html file loaded in a browser object and I don't know how to do that yet. If I ever figure out how, I'll be able to do more than just add a hotkey for enter.

You can try downloading & installing the Webdings font from here: http://web.nickshank...osoft-core-web-fonts

It should give you the missing characters needed for the buttons.

Thanks for the compliment, Curt.

I never read the manual either.  ;)

This was done in PSP 9, although it could have been done in my preferred v7 as well. I didn't use that version because I thought the background removal tool included with v9 would help with this. (it really didn't and I could have done just as well without it.)

I just promoted the original image from background to layer, used the eraser tool to remove everything I didn't want to be affected by the color change, leaving just the body of the car. Then I changed it to a dark purple using Colorize, grayscaled it, increased it back to 16 million colors, and added the original image as a new layer, dropping it beneath the colorized layer.

If you take a look at the psp file in the attachment, you will see just how much I erased to do it.

Living Room / Anyone have an xbox they don't want any more?
« Last post by app103 on November 13, 2009, 07:03 AM »
Long time friend and fellow coder, Krishean, who has helped me quite a bit over the years with coding and inspiration, is in a bit of a jam.

For the past 3 years he has been hosting his website on an xbox (original, not 360) and it no longer works.

He is in need of a new (used) one for hosting his website.

If anyone has one in good working order that they do not need any more, that they would be willing to donate, it would be much appreciated.

draconislabs.net has been gone for quite some time and i think i should explain why
for close to three years, if not three years, draconislabs had been running continuously on an xbox (original, not 360)
at the beginning of this past october, the xbox started to overheat, it had reached the end of its lifespan
it was never designed to run for such a long period continuously and finally said no more.
currently, the server is being run out of a virtual machine, but hopefully soon i will have a new server for it.

Ok, I took a crack at this too, in Paintshop Pro.

1_0-edit.jpg

and if you want to make any further adjustments to it, attached is a layered PSP file, with the first layer being just the part of the car to be colorized. Do all your adjustments on that layer, and you can make the car any color, without affecting the glass, interior, chrome, or background. (looks great in red or blue)

Seven Degrees of blonde

Disclaimer: I am both female and blonde, and I am not offended, so don't you be.

FIRST DEGREE

A married couple were asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the
morning.
The wife (undoubtedly blonde), picked up the phone,
listened a moment and said,
"How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!" and hung up.
The husband said, "Who was that?"
The wife said, "I don't know,
some woman wanting to know if the coast is clear."

SECOND DEGREE

Two blondes are walking down the street.
One notices a compact on the sidewalk and leans down to pick it
up. She opens it, looks in the mirror and says, "Hmm, this person
looks familiar."
The second blonde says, "Here, let me see!"
So the first blonde hands her the compact.
The second one looks in the mirror and says,
"You dummy, it's me!"

THIRD DEGREE

A blonde suspects her boyfriend of cheating on her, so she goes
out and buys a gun.
She goes to his apartment unexpectedly and when she
opens the door she finds him in the arms of a redhead.
Well, the blonde is really angry.
She opens her purse to take out the gun, and as she does so, she
is overcome with grief. She takes the gun and puts it to her head.
The boyfriend yells, "No, honey, don't do it!!!"
The blonde replies, "Shut up, you're next!"

FOURTH DEGREE

A blonde was bragging about her knowledge of state capitals. She
proudly says, "Go ahead, ask me, I know all of them."
A friend says, "OK, what's the capital of Wisconsin?"
The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy: W."

FIFTH DEGREE

What did the blonde ask her doctor when he told her she was
pregnant?
"Is it mine?"

SIXTH DEGREE

Bambi, a blonde in her third year as a UCLA freshman, sat in her
US government class. The professor asked Bambi if she knew
what Roe vs. Wade was about.
Bambi pondered the question then finally said,
"That was the decision George Washington had to make
before he crossed the Delaware."

SEVENTH DEGREE

Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her
house ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at
once and reported the crime.
The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9
unit, patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer
approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out
on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then
sat down on the steps. Putting her face in her hands, she moaned,
"I come home to find all my possessions stolen.
I call the police for help, and what do they do?
They send me a BLIND policeman."

she emptied a whole can of hair spray onto the spider before she realized that it was not insecticide.  ;)

Hairspray might not kill them but it sure makes it easier to dispose of them when they are so stiff they can't move. (it's my weapon of choice for flying stinging things like wasps, for just that reason)

I have been lurking in the Archive Team IRC channel and I am pretty up to date with what is going on now.

It's quite impressive, the amount of data they have collected and are sync'ing.

There is plans on building a "best of" page, linking to some of the real gems.

They need help with tagging, so if you want to submit some tags, pop them into the box at the top of each page and click the button. What would be especially helpful is if you come across spam sites to tag them as such so they can eventually be removed.

They are already talking about the next big projects (tinyurl & twitter). I am considering volunteering to help with the twitter project and have done a little bit for them already (archived as much as I could get for the 100 most popular users).
