Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Writing Outliner for MS Word
« Last post by Curt on July 18, 2011, 07:42 AM »
Tuesday 19 July 2011, Writing Outliner via Bits du Jour again. $29 again.

http://www.bitsdujou...utliner-for-ms-word/

Sorry, 64bit Office isn't supported now, but it will be supported in the future. Actually, MS Office 2010 includes both the 32bit and 64 bit version, and using the 32bit version will allow you continue using all existing add-ins.

Unicode is OK in the word documents, however, a few places such as the notes in the left side bar will not support some types of languages. This will be fixed in future versions. Thanks.

Edited:
It is still at version 1.5

It's good to hear that somehow is having a much better experience with Acronis than I have had. In the end I got so disappointed that I uninstalled my licensed Acronis TrueImage2010.

General Software Discussion / Re: Meet the new FOG! Same as the old FOG?
« Last post by Curt on July 14, 2011, 04:35 PM »
-and now  one year later:

Fontlab and Dutch Type Library have joined forces to offer version 2.4 of DTL OTMaster and version 5.1 of Fontographer together in a bundle at an unprecedented discount of 41%! Ordinarily we don't do discounts so you probably won't ever see anything like this again. But it's only for the month of July, so get your orders in NOW.

http://www.fontlab.c...se-dtl-otmaster.html

What Does OTMaster Do?

With OTMaster you won't go cross-eyed trying to make sense of binary tables. OTM gives you an organized visual GUI with everything neatly arranged so that you can see exactly what's going on inside your font.

You don't have to worry about the data being filtered or interpreted by another program. What you see in OTMaster is precisely what is in the final font - true WYSIWYG.

37.jpg  glyph-editor&viewer included

How About That FOG 5.1 ?

Now with EPAR!
This new version of Fontographer, our font editor extraordinaire, is the first to include the ability to create an EPAR OpenType table. EPAR (Embedding, Permissions And Recommendations) is a way to put license information right into your fonts in a format that users can easily see and understand.

As soon as a user opens an "EPAR"ed font in Fontographer a transient popup informs them who licensed the font and what is allowed and disallowed in the license. For instance, if you want to permit video embedding, or prevent backwards conversion, the user knows it right up front.

Of course the new Fontographer has an improved interface and hundreds of bug fixes under the hood too. If your work involves fonts this is a bundle you can't afford not to have - 41% off the list prices!!!!!!!

This is the only time we've ever offered a bundle deal like this. Take the opportunity now to expand your digital type design toolkit. Only US$449 for the latest versions of BOTH Fontographer and OTMaster.

List price US$769.00. Discount price until 1 Aug 11 - US$449

Now having read a little more on the program's homepage, I am not all that certain that I want to recommend this product. Don't get me wrong; it is probably a really fine solution, but I am not so sure it is cheap. Isn't the >"BDJ customers can upgrade to future versions of PowerFolder Pro Gold at the discounted BDJ price!"< the same thing everybody else is offering: "Buy a key, and later you may upgrade at half the full price"? And what is this: >"computer license valid for 12 months."< ??

---
Anyway:

Product Description

Private Peer-to-Peer Sync: Directly transfer unlimited data between up to 5 computers.
Premium support: Email, live chat and remote desktop assistance.
BONUS: Free 50 GB online cloud space for 12 months.
Best value: Save over 40% compared to single purchases.
Five computer license valid for 12 months.
All major and minor software updates for 12 months.
Worry free: 20 days money back guarantee.
Works on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Maximum security: Encrypted transfers and secure identity check.

    And a lot more Features...

I think the $30 version of MagicISO is the same one that now is freeware. The program is still updated, occasionally, but one could certainly wish for the shop and the rest of the homepage to also be updated - though free, you can still pay $30 for a license!

Nirsoft to the rescue: http://www.nirsoft.n...s/muicache_view.html

I should specify that I didn't use nirsoft's app, but went straight to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache, via Firefox > "Open in RegEdit", and then scrolled to 3D..., to delete the long story-like description, only leaving "3D Image Commander".

ResEdit wouldn't play along, as far as I could (not?) understand:

Edit:
Seems Windows® Platform SDK is needed.

this post just to tell that "Open in RegEdit" still is working with FF 4 and apparently also with FF 5. Use forced installation.

Instinctively, certainly not by knowledge, I say this must be a matter of altering the particular executive file, (named "imagecommander3D.exe"), not the Operating System's registry. Because this computer has been visited by more than a thousand programs, but no other program has been giving me this problem - they all show up displaying their normal name only. But of course, only a relative few was ever used via "Open with..." or similar.

Increase the level of status message being shown during startup and shutdown to a more clear picture of what is happening.

Change to verbose with this DWORD registry key:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Policies \System]
    VerboseStatus=1

This setting can also be configured through the Group Policy Editor:

Windows 2003/XP/2000 - Computer Configuration -> Administrative Tools -> System and change the option "Verbose vs. normal status messages".
Windows Vista/2008 - Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System and change the option "Verbose vs normal status messages"

If the following DWORD registry entry is set to 1 then no messages is shown at all:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Policies \System]
    DisableStatusMessages = 0 (0 = Show messages, 1 = Hide messages)

The prices now are $30 + $30, so everybody "should" go to http://www.bitsdujou...om/software/xplorer/ and click "I Want This"! I am exited to test version 2 quite soon, (when out of Beta), but I am quite poor at the moment, and I didn't see it in time when X² was on offer. But I Want This with a lifetime key ♥
