There is actually a technical reason why its louder in some places, masking.  im from the school of if you can`t clean it, mask it.

yep, that's what i figured as well.  :D

Living Room / Traineo - weight loss and fitness tracking website
« Last post by mouser on August 17, 2006, 08:46 AM »
Nice review today on www.solutionwatch.com about a new weight loss site.

Traineo, launched yesterday, is a weight loss and fitness site designed to help track and reach your weight loss goals. If you’ve tried to lose weight before, you would know that it’s no simple task. It takes a lot of time and dedication and you’ve got to be highly motivated. Traineo aims help make the process easier by providing users with a simple website for recording and tracking their weight loss progress. Traineo users can also invite friends and family as motivators to help cheer you on, or yell at you, as the days pass by.

Good idea.

another good idea, yes.

Screenshot Captor / Re: [2.18.04] Suggestions
« Last post by mouser on August 17, 2006, 08:02 AM »
Or: after making the screenshot there could appear a small "kontext menu" or something like with several options: open the program, copy captured region only to the clipboard and/or to file, and so on.

I think this is a great idea and am putting it at top of my todo list.  If user chooses option to show Capture Menu after a capture it would show menu with:
1) Open Screenshot Captor with new Image
2) Discard Image
3) Print Image
4) Copy Image to clipboard
5) Copy Path to image to clipboard

great idea and this would be good for what other people have asked for before.  great idea.

as for closing screenshot captor.. let me think about this.. really screenshot captor is designed to stay running in your system tray.  You can exit from the File menu (Alt+F then x).

as for saving preferences with user account - i really need to investigate my programs more and perhaps add options about where to save preferenecs files.  for some people keeping them in the program directory is perfect (portability), for others it might be an issue.

I've been looking into efficient and easy ways to keep backups of a server and came across these two tools.
Note these are not for casual users, but for server admin types, and run mostly on *nix.

Personaltechpipeline.com Review: Five PC Firewalls

It's amazing to think there was once a time when the idea of a firewall for one's desktop computer was thought of as overkill, if not downright ridiculous. Now it's practically mandatory -- not just to protect your computer from outside threats, but to keep Trojans and e-mail viruses from hijacking your system from within.

General Software Discussion / Re: good software review site
« Last post by mouser on August 16, 2006, 06:58 PM »
I think TopTenReviews is doing a lot of stuff really well.  I find the layout of their reviews and just the basic approach to describing features in a matrix but also providing tips for choosing a tool really nice.  Much to be admired.

And I'm not at all saying that it's not a great review site.

I think some of the posts above have suggested that we be cautious and consider the possibility of bias in the reviews to favor affiliate sales, etc.  Such stuff is unfortunately rampant in the review industry, and it's always important to be on the lookout for it.

Living Room / Jay Is Games: A Great Source for Your Daily Dose of Flash Games
« Last post by mouser on August 16, 2006, 06:16 PM »
I link to games all the time here that i find on the JayIsGames website, so it's only fair to respond to Jay's call for help in spreading the word about his great site.

Our reputation for highlighting some of the best, innovative, and most unusual casual games available has reached far and wide. In fact, I believe our success in this area is one of the reasons for our growth tapering off. It may not come as a surprise to you, but this site is visited and watched by a great number of other sites that also feature games for you to play. Once we post something here it will often appear on many, many other sites simply because they saw it here and therefore know it must be good.

Unfortunately, that means any exclusivity we have for our hard work finding, testing, and reviewing these games is reduced to mere hours, and then the games are available all over. While this is great news for game developers and it pleases me a great deal to be helpful in getting the word out about their outstanding creative work, I feel that there are a great number of potential visitors that still don't know about us.

So, now you might be thinking, "How can I help?"

I'm glad you asked. =)

Tell your family and friends about our site.
