Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Game du Jour
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 04, 2007, 10:28 AM »
I couldn't find it either, which means it doesn't exist :P
Notice that the post might have been misinterpreted and deleted since it would look like a dupe on bitsdujour (yep, a little too far-feched, but at least gives some comfort to mouser for the search not finding it ;) )

And... Updated again.

LockWorkstation v1.02 updated 03-01-07:
Locks the Workstation after a predifined amount of time
[Forum Topic] [.ahk Version] [.exe version] [About Box]

Added another icon (with an open lock), so that now the tray icon can change when the script is disabled.
Added explanations in the .ini file.
Added a traytip which comes up when the script is about to lock.

Deozaan & DocSavage: That problem is already known. The settings dialogs in mouser's programs don't scale when using windows set with larger than normal fonts. I believe it's related with the borland compiler that mouser uses. right?

Now features a noise before locking the workstation. If you touch something (mouse or keyboard) within 5 seconds, it won't lock. You can use whatever .wav you like, just remove the LockWorksation.wav and replace it with another sound.
(this feature can be disabled through the .ini file, just set Lock_Warning to 0)

locking the workstation is nice but does it do the main thing wong asked for?
i.e. give you a warning first and a few seconds to cancel the lock?
Oh.. I didn't understand correctly what he meant. Now adding that :)

I see what you mean, wong. But be careful, what you're looking for can be EXTREMELLY annoying, specially when watching movies.

General Software Discussion / help: weird "Performance Options" behaviour
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 02, 2007, 12:52 PM »
As some of you already know, i like windows xp fisherprice theme. And i like to keep the performance options in the "best appearence" selection.

But since not much time ago (i can't tell exactly when), some of the options don't work anymore. I can't turn on the "Show translucent selection rectangle" nor "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" although apparently all other options are working.
Does anyone know a possible cause for this problem?
Could it be related to the video drivers?

Thanks!

N.A.N.Y. Challenge 2007 / Re: VDesktops

How about this: when you add it to a group it's already in, it will be removed.
The simplest solution is always the best! Thanks, i'll do it like that :D

How about these? :-)
The problem is that most of those can't be used in other people's work, inly for private use. The silk iconset can be used for this, but i couldn't find any appealing icon. This requires a more thorough search.

N.A.N.Y. Challenge 2007 / Re: VDesktops
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 02, 2007, 08:22 AM »
On startup, all windows are shown on all desktops. You have to add windows to groups/desktops first for the program to become usable. I think it's a nice feature to have the option to show a window on all desktop and definitely worth keeping, but I think it's confusing the way it works now
Actually, i made that on porpouse, since i used it more to hide programs from view. But i've also noticed it confuses people, it shall be changed :)

When I add a window to a group that isn't the active group, the window doesn't disappear until I change desktops.
Makes a lot of sense, fixed :)

  • When I add a program to a group, and then later add it to another group, it seems to be included in both!
That's intended to be like that, so that a window can be in more than one desktop but not in all of them. The problem is that there's no way to remove windows from groups. I'm thinking about how to do it.

Give us a nicer icon than the standard AHK one!
You are absolutelly right, there should be a better icon. But i suck at art.. :( If anyone is available to do an icon, please step up!! :D

N.A.N.Y. Challenge 2007 / VDesktops
« Last post by jgpaiva on December 31, 2006, 09:37 PM »
This is a program i had already done some work on, and found it was worth making it a bit more complete.

It's a simple virtual desktop manager. Almost as simple as it gets!
It is limited to 4 virtual desktops: 3 "normal" virtual desktops and one (named as 0) where all the windows appear.

It is mostly hotkey based, although it has a minimalist gui too.
The hotkeys are defined as follows:
  windows + 0: show desktop 0
  windows + 1 / 2 / 3: show corresponding desktop
windows + left / right: show next desktop
  windows + shift + 1 / 2 / 3: add window to that desktop
windows + c: show the "changer", which allows you to change desktops using only the mouse.

Windows cannot be removed from desktops (that's still a problem to be solved), but each window can appear in more than one desktop.

Now... Why did i make it?
2 reasons:
  • low memory usage (about 3mb)
  • It's a script!
This program being a script means i (and anyone else) can change it to suit my own needs!
Of course, source code in AHK is in the zip package. I only ask for recognition if you decide to change it and distribute it.

VDesktops - v1.003 - January 2, 2007

    * Fixed bug mentioned on reply #2 (window wouldn't disappear right away when added to a different group)

VDesktops - v1.002 - January 2, 2007

    * Fixed bug where Win+Left / Win+Right would crash the script
    * Fixed misplacement of "changer"
    (thanks deozaan!)

VDesktops - v1.0 - December 31, 2006

    * First public release.

WHAT IT DOES:
This is a simple virtual desktop manager.

note: if when using the program, something disappears, don't be scared, that's the point. To bring everything back, press Win+0

hi tinjaw!!
Congrats! This is a fun game! :D I even like it more than the original asteroids :P
You did an amazing work.
I'd just ask for one small modification: make the game end when there are no asteroids. It happened to me just the same thing that happened to Farmsteader. After the game had ended i didn't notice it and tried to blow up the other bombs.
(also, don't forget to let people choose a resolution in the last version. This one didn't quite fit my screen).
3017
NEAT!!
If it integrates with the search it will be a HUGE improvement. I bet it'll make search work a lot easier. Good thing you're always on the lookout for new improvements to DC, mouser!
3018
Just let me straighten out some stuff: The time that it'd wait before closing the programs would be the same for all of them, right?
Also, would you like it to close the program's windows or to terminate the processes?

@nudone: exactly what you had in mind! that's fantastic, even with that size, one can perfectly distinguish that as an F key. Great work!

If you want (even) more detail, you can use ethereal. Warning: possibly this requires more knowledge of tcp/udp/ip than you have now.

jgpaiva, is this the removable drive error?
Actually, i just tried, and that doesn't happen with removable drives! (if the drive isn't there, the file from the history isn't displayed)
So... No problems :D

JennyB mentioned an important problem. I hadn't realized that could happen, but it's important with removable drives. I own a usb disk and wouldn't like farr to be colapsing every time it's not on.

@TucknDar: Exactly what i had in mind. I think it's much better now, thanks!! I think this is a good idea for farr v2 because it means "the same idea, just VERY refined" :D

@nudone: good job, i like this new version much more than i likes the other one! Could you change the perspective just a bit so that the 'F' could be seen in the smaller version?
On the running man icon, there are some black pixels in the man's figure, i think that's the "artifacts" that mouser meant.
