I've started using the internal player now as well, and I cant tell any difference, probably like the FAQ at foobar that says all modern players will sound much the same and any difference you hear will most likely be placebo (the effect not the band ;) )

Oh, i think there are people who mind it, its just that we are a fairly small country which isn't able to exert influence over large portions of the world.  After all Australia usually only makes the papers in the USA if a kangaroo escapes somewhere lol

In Australia we have some anti-terrorist laws.  One such beast allows for the arrest and imprisonment of anyone for quite a time, no contact with anyone, not a lawyer, their wife or husband, no one, for all purposes this person just vanishes.  If this person happens to be a minor, then 1 parent is allowed to know, if they tell anyone including the other parent, they can go to jail for 5 yrs i think it is, obviously I have no idea if this has ever been done, and if i did i wouldn't be able to tell you  ;D

Its a great thing, I'm rediscovering 'lost' music, stuff i haven't listened to for years.  And i just send the mix off to my player of choice, which it has automatically found, well its found all the players, Windows mdia, jriver and foobar and just tick the box (it has an option for default player as well but the only time i used that it went to powerDVD  ;D ).  I am really glad i gave it another try.  :)  I am using it all the time whether i want just a single album or a mix made up. Its searching seems excellent.

I'm using a few things to improve bookmarks, i was using powermarks, but since its coming to the end of its life i thought id try and get it all back into ff itself. So

2 pane bookmarks, description says shows in sidebar in 2 pane style like opera, whatever it has 2 panes which is handy  ;)  (the home page is basically all in japanese, but it is easy to find at ff add ons site

Bookmark duplicate detector - as the name suggests http://bookmarkdd.mozdev.org/

Bookmark sorting http://www.oregontec...rt.com/bookmarks.php is the home page, tho the version i have is later than the one mentioned on this page right now, so if ya want it i'd get it at add-ons site

OpenBook 1.3.4.1

Allows for customization of the Add Bookmark dialog. The bookmarks tree can be automatically opened and elements can be hidden.  http://www.chuonthis.com/extensions/

Ohh and I use Foxmarks to synchronize and store my bookmarks, makes them available anywhere as well as just the synching

These give me most of what i wanted, and it also means things like keywords and comments will be kept.

Is anyone still using this? And if so are the problems surmountable? Im beginning to think i like the idea of a system wide enhancer but not at the expense of too many problems

I think the author is ethically entitled to do with their creation what they will.  If this means removing it from  publication, that should be their choice until the time comes when it is in the public domain, somewhere between 30 and 50 yrs after the authors death in most western countries. The author may choose of course to release it to the public domain earlier as the guy who runs the Zen Habits blog did recently -  Open Source Blogging: Feel Free to Steal My Content

http://zenhabits.net...to-steal-my-content/

That however is one persons choice and it seems to me that i do not have a right to force my choice on the author.

I agree that if you have bought something and wish to use it in another medium for personal use only then that is OK, since in that instance you have seen and/or read what it is the author may particularly have wanted you to see in a printed version, though the lawyers I'm sure would have a field day.

Just my thoughts on it.

Thanks justice, I found that in the end, though i was a bit concerned about modifying the files.   Anyway no harm seems to have been done, and it works well for the most part, I'm noticing some GUI problems, the icons are sometimes just shadows, but it still works  ;) .

It analyzed 3700 files for me in about 6 hrs on my AMD X2 3800  with 2gb ram , which I thought was a vast improvement over the last time i tried this when it died after about 2 days and still hadnt finished  ;D

I am also impressed with its tag fixing ability, so quick and quite accurate, but it does make mistakes so it pays to be careful.

That is a really nice theme you use MrCrispy, im giving it a try now.

1. Yes, I synch my documents and my music files between my laptop and desktop whenever i get home.

2 SuperFlexible, because it has that smart updating capability that may be in the others but i could work it out in superflexible.

3 Its all on my computers

4 Worth paying for? well it depends how valuable your data is, a while ago when i used to just browse and play games then no, i didnt do any backups at all, if things went wrong it didn't matter.

5 I do occasional backups, maybe 1 every month or 2 and for the rest i rely on the synching.

So far its worked for me.

Living Room / Thief caught on Webcam
« Last post by Grorgy on May 12, 2008, 12:15 AM »
I just found this article at http://www.theage.co...s_cid=rss_technology

Police have arrested two men and recovered $US5500 ($5800) worth of stolen computers and electronic devices after the owner of one of the purloined laptops was able to connect remotely to her Apple MacBook and photograph the thief.

Kait Duplaga, 19, returned to her New York state home on April 27 to find the unit she shared with two other flat mates had been ransacked.

A bit of luck involved, and some expense, but she got her laptop back as well as other stuff.  Go Kait Go

There is a still of the perps at the link

Its worth the $9.95 just to get rid of that stupid start message  ;D
I just got it and it works as advertised for me, though to set it up I could only access it through the control panel, but no problem, now its running it appears on the taskbar menu.  As for resources, i can't figure that out, it doesnt start a service that i can see and its not running as a program, but there is nothing noticeable in increased consumption.

Thanks Curt,  :)

Your movie was probably more exciting, so don't feel too disappointed!   ;)
318
looks like they are the magazine versions, so probably no upgrades or anything like that with them, but the price is sure right  ;)
319
Perhaps someone here knows, been looking at the help and forum but I'm still not sure.  I use a laptop and a desktop with the same music on each (I keep the music files themselves on an external drive for the laptop and synch it with the desktop every so often).  Would copying the cache file between computers keep it accurate?

Cheers
George

« Last post by Grorgy on May 09, 2008, 04:27 AM »
must say I have at various times used both programs and have not had anything untoward happen, the programs seem to work as described so if they are what you are looking for I would use them.  (I only just got rid of IE7Pro the other day because I never use IE7 these days and was clearing out unused programs, I tried orbit downloader sometime back and from memory I just wasn't completely satisfied with its features and have since moved to getright)

I appear to be among the minority but i find it easier to find the things I need on the ribbon than in older versions, and those instant previews are fantastic  :)

At least for me this add in doesn't work with the cite while you write endnote add in, so be warned, this could be the problem if you have them both.
324
I would just add that if you get it free, will you continue to get it free.  That is if the company stops using it after 12 months or counts how many licences they really need you may have to pay to keep using it, which could be a bit annoying if you like it but aren't in a position to pay.

Curt, you may like to take a look at hyperwords, it does what you ask, apart from the toolbar - it uses the context menu, and has a lot of other options as well, translating, currency conversions searches in various places.  http://www.hyperwords.net/
