So, this thread is about which Windows Updates a person should not install.

Windows 11.   8)

Well, you're in luck. There will be no Windows 11 :P
302
I formerly tried to do that. But as you go on, the updates depend on each other. And not having certain ones will take your version of windows out of support until you install them. It became a byzantine array of dependent updates and was more trouble than it was worth in the end. I just use the tactic of delaying until there's a critical mass, and letting it update at that point.

irc 365 saves notebook on OneDrive
In 2016, using the same account, you can access the cloud file and then save it locally.

Well, it's not quite that clearcut. They've changed OneNote 2016 to be OneNote for Desktop. They have a OneNote app on the Windows 10 store and that one doesn't know anything about local notebooks. I think they've changed directions and are not getting rid of the desktop version.

From the help:

Our product names for OneNote on Windows have recently changed. Throughout this article, “OneNote” now refers to the Windows desktop version (previously called “OneNote 2016”), and “OneNote for Windows 10” refers to the Microsoft Store app that’s available only on Windows 10.

I guess this is in response to all of the feedback (blowback) they received about their decision to do away with local notebooks.

I see.  I could see that working. Are you actually  typing into the pdf forms fields?

I'm usually using ink. Sometimes I'll use callouts and type in those to notate things.

Thanks… when making things up, are you using pdf forms or other forms?

It's scanned paper forms for reports and such. Works really well for it- one of the things that many find annoying (the fact that the page is nothing but elements) works really well for random forms as you just have to click where the field is and start writing or typing.

My devices that I'm talking about use Solar Power- so no electricity there. And to be honest, the extra electricity required for the increase in bandwidth is minimal.
307
As long as idiotic data caps are a thing, this is a non-starter for me.

The devices are also using electricity you have to pay for :D

Actually, the devices that I'm using don't.  :P

And in any case, that's a false equivalency, as data caps are different as you pay a flat fee for data under the cap.

I have to use it for work, and use it for marking up some forms that I use for personal work, and it appears to store the notebooks offline and sync them if you are connected. I don't know if it is manually transferrable- I've never done it that way, preferring to just download it from OneDrive.

Living Room / Opt out of Amazon sharing your bandwidth with your neighbors
« Last post by wraith808 on June 02, 2021, 08:18 AM »
From ghacks.net:

Amazon plans to enroll many of its hardware devices that are operated in the United States, including many Echo devices and Ring Spotlight and Floodlight Cams, into its Amazon Sidewalk system on June 8, 2021.

Amazon Sidewalk is a shared network. According to Amazon, it is used to make devices work better, e.g. by extending the working range of devices, keeping devices running even if outside the range of the wireless network of the home, or finding pets.

One of the ideas behind Sidewalk is that devices may continue to operate even if they lose access to the local wireless network; this works best in neighborhoods with lots of Amazon devices in the vicinity that all share some of their bandwidth.

Another key element of Amazon Sidewalk is that it creates a network for roaming devices, e.g. devices similar to Apple AirTags, that Amazon could utilize to provide the functionality.

Amazon explains:

Amazon Sidewalk uses Bluetooth, the 900 MHz spectrum and other frequencies to extend coverage and provide these benefits.
Each device, called Sidewalk Bridge by Amazon, shares up to 80kbps with the Sidewalk server when the feature is active. Amazon notes that the total monthly bandwidth is capped to 500 Megabytes for an account.

Neighbors will see the approximate location of Amazon Sidewalk devices, and not the street address.

Amazon Sidewalk will be enabled by default by Amazon on supported devices on June 8, 2021 in the United States. Amazon customers who operate Echo or Ring devices, need to opt-out of the program if they don't want their devices to join the shared network and spend some of the home bandwidth.

More at link above.

This reminds me of xfinity/comcast enabling it on their routers- didn't like it then, don't like it now.

I like the first one- I don't think the second one really captures the freezing of the frames in the music.

Just seen Speare mentioned on the Obsidian discord. For writing in snippets and organising them into larger documents.
Pretty, but no idea how it would stand up to real use. Web app + iOS and Android. Expensive ($60 a year or $15 monthly).
Some aspects remind me of Gingko but prettier and less useful.
Wouldn't suit me at all, but might interest some.

It's quite a bit different from my first impressions, but is something I'm definitely happy you mentioned. I really like it so far.

I've always liked FocusWriter. It was one of the first minimalist editors with background music that I used, and it did its job well. I moved away from it when WriteMonkey had the feature added.

I'm using the original for now.. at some considerable risk that I'll have to take those videos down and re-upload them.. I need a custom version asap!

This guy has some decent tips on how you can avoid at least a copyright strike while you look.

Step 4 is where you want to concentrate. Make sure you attribute the music being used. It's already relatively short. If you have audio editing software, you might want to also remix it a bit- don't play it entirely through from beginning to end. But that's tricky to get right.

For future release
If the weather location could be made as an input like this
"WeatherToText.exe https://www.klart.se...4der-alberga/timmar/"
"WeatherToText.exe https://www.klart.se...4der-caracas/timmar/"
It would be usable for alot more people.

Yeah, this was what I was trying to do, but couldn't figure out the API for the urls, it being Swedish limited my ability to search. Your suggestion of sending in the URL is a good one!

I just realized looking at the source, I was reading too much into the request- you wanted that specific page, not a parameterized query from that site.

So, this isn't exactly what you asked for, but it was an interesting problem, so I did it anyway :)

It uses wttr.in (I couldn't figure out that other site- when I put in a location, it required a more specific name for the results page than I could figure out quickly).

It's in powershell, and I documented it in the comments. Save it to Get-Weather.ps1 and run it, i.e.

.\Get-Weather.ps1

It will prompt you for the city- you can specify it just by city and it will sometimes get it right from your location, but you can also use state/province/country, etc - just separate with ,. i.e.

.\Get-Weather.ps1
Enter name of the City to get weather report: Cairo

This would display the weather for Cairo,Egypt, but

.\Get-Weather.ps1
Enter name of the City to get weather report: Cairo,Illinois

Would display the weather for Cairo,Illinois

Code: PowerShell [Select]

I've tested a few now and settled with "FolderChangesView"

I'm impressed you found that, because with that name, I'd have assumed it was a changes tracker, not a program for actually copying.

What other ones did you try?  I would have suggested NewFileGo by joejoesoft, but haven't actually tried it out.

It does track the changes. It has the ability to execute something when it detects a change, and he's executing another program for the copy.

I've historically used Pneumatic Tubes (which I'm still using) and Belvedere, but it seems like you've already found your solution!
