Along with "widgets" i'm guessing this what a Firefox user would call extensions,Opera will be opening a new
sub-domain,Opera Labs-http://labs.opera.com/-where users can get a behind the scenes look at Opera
technologies.

If you haven't tried Opera i highly recommend it.And give it a real chance.Run it for a month.I installed Opera
while waiting in between Firefox's 1.5 and 1.5.01 releases and though i still have Firefox on my machine and
always will i rarely use it after giving Opera a chance. The first thing you will most likely do is start saying,
this isn't like Firefox,Firefox can do this why can't Opera, after tweaking it a bit you'll most likely get it to do
everything Firefox has done for you and then some. That's not bashing Firefox,it's a great browser, anything
is better than I.E.,cause we all know it's a security flaw waiting to happen...and it kills kittens.Little helpless
defenseless kittens.

Especially with dual layer dvd's,you could get a alot of info on one disc and video compression has come such a long way.No matter what side you choose in the video codec war, xvid, divx, real, windows media, etc. Video in any format is so sweet now.Cinemania would have these great 15-20 second clips of Jaws, godfather, etc.I think it might be a copy right thing. So many sources and movie studios, distributers to buy rights and get permision from.

Yeah i haven't had an encyclopedia on disc since Encarta 96.I like encyclopedia's but i want topic specific stuff.
I'm gonna start a petition,lol.

Back when Windows 95 was launched software seemed more creative. Two programs i love was Cinemania from
Microsoft and All Music Guide had a cd-rom that had every little tidbit about a music artist, including little video clips,in
pretty decent quality.Cinemania was freakin sweet, very elegant. It had reviews from Roger Ebert,Pauline Kael, and
Leonard Maltin. They stopping making it in 97 i believe and what a shame. If you look at the reviews at amazon
dot come you'll see people moaning about it being discountinued.I've never found reference software that covered
music and movies as well as those Programs.Does anyone out there know of any? It seemed that when the first
cd-rom drives were introduced it sparked more creativity out of people.Microsoft plus pagkages were even better.
You could spend all day poking around that cdrom, remember that Weezer video and that game with the red bumper
car?

Congrats on the fame, don't forget us when Google buys you.
I'd rather see some of the tools here in that "Google Pack" thing than the ones offered that's for sure.

Very cool stuff, extremely useful without being intrusive.Freaked me out for a minute or two.It takes about twenty minutes or so to bang around on it and see what it's capable of.Well worth the money.

I'll choose my graphic programs, just starting to wet my beak...

Artweaver
http://www.artweaver.de/    Really impressive graphics program, similar to Paint.NET,but better imho.

Inkscape
http://www.inkscape.org/        This is by far the coolest Program i've downloaded in the last couple of years.Been using it a couple of months now and still i stumble upon new features.

PhotoFiltre
http://www.photofiltre.com/  Feature rich,no layers though, have to upgrade to PhotoFiltre Studio for that, but still plenty of plugins and it's easy to sort around the interface.

Paint.NET
http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/  Good stuff,not perfect yet,but what is?

ScreenshotCaptor-Installed it for the first time, and i'm impressed. You actually beat Techsmith's Snagit to the
save as Pdf finish line, they just started offering it in Version 8.ScreenshotCaptor also has alot of other features not found in Snagit, good work.

General Software Discussion / Re: "Mail and/or RSS reader" screensaver?
« Last post by tinyvillager on January 31, 2006, 01:22 AM »
You need MSN Desktop search to use it but...

http://screensaver.msn.com/

With the new MSN Screen Saver (Beta) you can:
Personalize with background photos and news and weather information from MSNĀ® or any RSS feeds from websites you choose.
Search the Web and click news headlines directly from the Screen Saver.
Stay connected with MSN HotmailĀ®, MSN Messenger, and MSN Spaces. Track how many unread Hotmail messages and current Messenger conversations you have, and display blogs and photos from your friends’ MSN Spaces.

Actually if you read the bottom of the page it states you don't need the Toolbar,i don't know

Updated in previous releases
The MSN Search Toolbar is now optional (v1.0.0810)
Some weather update and zip code issues resolved (v1.0.0810)
Improved help pages (v1.0.0810)

Yeah,i poked around in the animation category, and found Betty Boop,if you goto wikipedia's entry for Betty Boop, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Boop  ,at the very bottom  you'll see that Paramount Pictures owns the rights now.I think some stuff though, some how avoids getting pounced on by lawyers. You can find this stuff all day long for a buck a DVD at the dollar stores (Dollar Trees*Franchise*) here in the U.S.,and you just know it's not legit. You get what you pay for too, alot of bad digital transfers, horrible sound, etc.

P.S.
I ripped my Avatar from one of these dollar a dvd's i was talking about.

Hmm,you'll have to jump through a few hoops to do it with freeware...

Here is a guide i found on Videohelp.com using VirtualdubMod...

http://forum.videohe...ewtopic.php?t=248307

I know you said freeware, but if you hit a dead end and find freeware is not an option

VidLogo is like 40 bucks
http://www.geovid.com/VidLogo

I wanna say Techsmith but it's 299 bucks, ouch!
http://www.techsmith...purchase/default.asp

You might actually be able to find some hacks and tricks with Windows Movie maker, these people have been able
to make Movie Maker really powerful
http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/

I know your the one asking, but if you manage to find a freeware alternative, please share.

I used to have Ewido, and it would give me false positives every now and again, once it gave a false positive
for SDP, a stream recorder i used,http://sdp.ppona.com/securityissue.html,another time it gave me a false
positive for RealProducer,Ewido is good stuff but every security app flips out now again,my f-prot anti-virus
went nuts on Google Talk, during a scan and the real-time protection flipped out when i even opened the folder
it was in,i emailed f-prot and they confirmed it was a false positive. It short, don't be shy letting Ewido know
about it,email them and post it in their forum so it's documented.

Living Room / So anyone buy any video from Google yet ?
« Last post by tinyvillager on January 13, 2006, 10:40 PM »

I bought a Twilight Zone episode (Time Enough at Last) w/Burgess Meredith for $1.99,just to check it out.
Decent quality,at a little under a half hour,about 26 minutes,the video weighs in at 97.8 MB,i'm on dial-up too :o.
So something will have to be pretty special for me to download again. While i like how they let you download the
video, the service requires you too log in with your google account to determine ownership. There is no such thing
as good DRM.I will twiddle my thumbs and wait for the hack ;)

I think it will most likely be a hit, especially in the music video department. That and opportunity for independant
freelancers out to make a buck is a pretty cool ideal. As far as watching a full commercial film release,no thanks,
i'd rather own the dvd.
316
This is an official release from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft...8&DisplayLang=en

This ISO-9660 CD image file contains all security and critical updates for Windows released on Windows Update on January 10th, 2006.

This is more for the administrators of many computers like the fine print says, but i think this a  cool ideal releasing
stuff on ISO images, and the first time i've seen Microsoft do it.

General Software Discussion / Cnn Pipeline
« Last post by tinyvillager on January 12, 2006, 03:51 PM »
I should of took some screenshot before uninstalling but i forgot :-[
And i sure as hell ain't gonna install that thing again
Here's some screenshots from the actuall page
http://www.cnn.com/pipeline/

First off i have 2gigs of ram and a decent video card ,radeon 9600,and P4 2.8ghz dual thread -yada yada

I installed this beast (install 9.55.mb)and it chugged along somewhere in the neighborhood of a 150 mb
Grant it i have dial-up,and as for slow connection that's my faught. The only application
i've seen chug nearly as much memory is Adobe Photoshop, and google earth, which you
can adjust.

Now the service, Cnn pipeline is decent, and you have the option to view all the features in your
browser,so in short if you ever try this service out opt for the browser as opposed to desktop
application.$2.95 month,$24.95 yr.,or what i opted for to try it out was a 99 cent day pass.
It's commercial free, and if you run URL snooper in the background you can catch the streams

Even though i didn't subscribe to it back in the day,i think the real player collaboration they once had
would have been a better way to view content as opposed to this horrible designed memory chugger.

I really wish i would've taken screenshots dangit,in the about box it mentioned something about
using audible components(audible.com) and the install shield has copyright Macrovision Corporation
which is a little scarry since their name is synonymous with DRM,actually THEY ARE DRM.

Just a heads up

You still have to be careful...

Just days after Microsoft rushed out a patch to fix a critical Windows flaw related to the processing of Windows Meta File images, two more problems with the component were flagged.

No i got an email saying i won,but wasn't sent anything to my knowledge,no reg or download link.

That being said i just changed domain hosting,it might of bounced.
321

 The whole package is a disappointment ,i unistalled the screensaver cause,well it's a screensaver,ya!

I've held on to the video player even though i can't find anything to do with it just yet.Stupid thing on
google part is that it only plays their file types, they've cozied up with Real networks and Divx so what
gives?
322

Yeah i could be wrong about windowblinds, never did upgrade to 5,all the forum posts over there tends to spook one.
Maybe it's just fud from those with cracked versions,i might give it ago,i still have upgrade privileges.

Now that this thread has gone totally off
subject,has anyone tried https://secure.tgtsoft.com/ ?

It's only 20 bucks aswell.
323
Ehh,i'd hold off.All it seems to be is a download manager.

The only thing new, seems new, never heard of the video player or the screensaver.

I ran Url Snooper in the background and caught the direct links ;)

Screensaver
http://gpdl.google.c...aver_installer-5.exe

Video Player-weighs in at about 4 and half MB,so i think it's a different video player.
http://gpdl.google.c...erSetup_signed-2.exe

I'm off to give it a try.

One last bit,the downloader want BITS (background intellegence transfer service) to run in the background.

No thanks.

You can login now. :)
