How many people does it take to fix mms on a cell phone? Three!
One customer service, and two tech support.
Recently I had been having problems with my phone (pantech slate if you would like to know)
I couldn't send or receive any picture messages (mms)
Yesterday, I called AT&T and asked if they could help me out. I would like to point out that this is the first time I have ever called anyone for tech support on anything, so I had only heard about how bad tech support was. Now I know from first hand just how bad it can be.
I was on the phone for over an hour... but on the bright side, I got a nice picture of the tech support guy's desk phone. (He sent it to see if I could receive picture messages.)
So I first called the only number I could find from AT&T's website. I got to the customer support after about 8 minutes of listening to free music and ads. She wasn't much help, but I did get the tech support number from her, and then got transfered to the first tech support person. She was of no use, and said she was going to transfer me to the tech support... I thought she was tech support...(who was I just talking to then?) After a two minute wait, I got to the second tech support (the guy that gave me the free picture of the desk phone). This guy was pretty helpful. After making me load up the internet browser on my phone and goto the homepage to see if I could connect to the internet (which is bad, because I don't have a data plan on my phone) he finally did something on his end, and then said that he was going to send me a picture message to see if I could receive messages. That is when I almost crapped my pants, because I read out on the internet, that other ppl had the same problem as I had, and to fix it, they had to replace the phone. He then wanted to make sure I could send picture messages before he let me go. (that doesn't work verywell, because at my house, I get bad cell signal, so sending the mms took a looong time). So in the end, what ever he did, it fixed my phone, and now I can send and receive picture messages again.

The purpose of this story is just because I experienced my first tech support call, and I just had to share it with the world. If you want to share your first tech support story with me, that would be great. I am curious to hear some pretty funny/annoying tech support stories. (I love to read about random ones that I find on google)

Why are you considering switching? Is XP64 giving you problems?

Personally, XP64 does the job fine. If my machine crashed today, I'd probably install Vista64 on it, though. But if it doesn't, which I kinda hope , my next upgrade will be Win7-64.

well I'm not having problems with xp x64 (other than my stupid bluetooth adapter) I just wanted an operating system that was still supported by the world.
You can look at different programs, and they will have a 32 bit version, and then the only 64 bit version is vista, not xp. (one example microsoft's live writer, vista x64 only, not xp x64)

The closest I'm going to get to xp 32 bit is the virtual machine that I use pretty much only to transfer stuff from my phone to my pc since my bluetooth adapter doesn't work well in 64 bit.

I guess I will skip vista and goto windows 7 when it gets released.

I hope 7 is only 64 bit. Maybe then people will stop using 32 bit and start making 64 bit programs. It might also fix problems with not finding 64 bit drivers, since your only choice is a 64 bit OS.

So right now I have xp x64 with 4 gigs of ram.
I like to play games on my computer (that is the main thing I do on my computer)
Most of the world (including microsoft themselves) don't really support xp 64 bit much anymore.
So my question here is, should I switch to windows vista, and if so, should I stick with 64 bit, or loose some of my ram and use 32 bit.
I don't know that I want to switch or not though, because my brother has vista x64 on his computer at work with 4 gigs of ram, and the computer is new and a fairly good computer, and he says it runs kind of slow. I want to be able to play games still, but I would like to have an operating system that is still supported by the world.

Bottom line: Windows vista(x64 (supported by the world, xp x64 not supported by the world)) should I switch, or just stick with my xp x64?

One Idea:
Code an AHK script (or some other language, all I know though is AHK) that will show a list of all your web browsers, and run the selected browser with the url shortcut you ran.
Then you just change the open with for url shortcuts to that AHK script, so that when you double click on the shortcut, it opens the program and adds the shortcut to a variable, and when you select which browser you want to use, it would open the selected url with the browser you picked.

I've actually had two incidents not to long ago. One was when I tried to install sandboxie on xp x64. Sandboxie and microsofts stupid "patchguard" don't play nice together.

(The second one isn't actually a BSOD, but I felt like pointing it out anyways.)
The second one was when I was trying to install ubuntu on my computer. Ubuntu doesn't like my computer's hardware (or atleast the graphics card, the stupid xserver kept crashing)

Heya guys, YouTube kinda inspired me of this idea! It's very annoying to read upside down! I KNOW! But can some1 build a small program for me?? .exe or something.

What this program does and contains:

-Automatically flip text upside down (Convert AUTOMATIC! So you dont need to paste the original text and then convert it,then paste it like the internet sites.)
-In the .exe a "Start" button and a "Stop" button
-When you click "Start" and you type something it automatically flips upside down. No matter where you write the text. EVERYWHERE! So MSN, Notepad, Word, just everything! Even if the text editor doesnt support these "special" characters.

Example:

I start the .exe then I click Start
I can write everywhere upside down because it automatically converts the text upside down in my textbox.
Yay! Now I can annoy people! Now the fun is over and I click Stop and can type normal again

I only know how to code in AHK, but I wouldn't think that would be possible to do. You would most likely just have to copy and paste it manually into one of the online converters, and then paste it where ever you wanted it upside down.

I tested both versions of the code yesterday when I got home from school. The first version changed the playback mic, and like Learning, the second version didn't do anything. I guess AHK just hates the recording panel.

lol, thanks lanux, you made my garbage code look more profesional. 
you could test it by substituting the microphone part of the script with either wave or master volume. I can't test it right now though, because I'm at school, and my mic is at home.

This would be pretty useful to detect if you have a virus on your computer or something like that. If you have some program that runs in the background that would detect when the registry or filesystem was changed without your knowlege.

from what I gathered looking at the script, it looks like it changes the wallpaper every 1000 seconds, and doesn't need temporality screens running.

I haven't tested it, but if you are useing windows xp and have autohotkey installed, then you can use that, and when you run it, I belive it should unmute the microphone, and then set the volume to 85, and then it exits.
Though I don't know what it would do in vista, since each program that you run has its own seperate volume control.

Luckely for me, my computer hates autorun anyways. I believe it only worked for like the first week I had windows installed, and then it just randomly stopped working. Now I need to go home and put a password on my computer's accounts, because I am stupid and don't use passwords on the admin account or my user account because I am stupid... and lazy.

Well I did figure out that if I use a 32 bit virtual machine I can install the drivers that came with the adapter, and then I don't have any problems.

Do you know if that super mini dongle is compatible with xp 64 bit, I didn't read through all the comments, but I ran across one that said it worked with vista x64, but I don't use vista.

I know it is a crappy method, but you can do what I do and run a copy of xp 32 bit in a virtual machine. I'm running xp 64 bit, and almost nothing in the world like 64 bit, so I have to install what wont run in my virtual machine. (though if it is a game, you are pretty much SOL)

I have a mogo bluetooth adapter That semi works with 64 bit windows. I can't use the software that came with it, because it is 32 bit only. I downloaded Widcomm 6.00 Bluetooth and there was a broadcom driver that works with xp 64 bit. The problem though is that I can only send files to my pantech slate cell phone, but I can't receive files from it. I can however connect my wii remote to my computer with no problems. Does anyone know how to make my computer able to receive files from my phone? I don't want to have to send myself an mms to email message just to get stuff off my phone. After I make this post, I am going to email mogo and see if by chance they have 64 bit drivers that they are hiding from me, because I can't find anywhere on their site to download drivers.

I don't know, it seems to put a virus in the temp folder and in the syswow64 folder. I've downgraded back to IE7, I'm going to stop using chrome for a while and use IE7 and see if the virus reappear. I may see if I can install xp x64 in a virtual machine and then put IE8 on that and see if I can get the same results.
