General Software Discussion / Re: Anyone testing Daminion Media Manager ?
« Last post by joiwind on March 25, 2011, 07:50 AM »
Here's what the dev's said :
"We are hard working to release the stable Daminion version. We'll release
the Daminion Server with multi-user capabilities very soon.

We haven't decided how we'll split the product's functionality across the
different versions yet. Our closest goals for the near future are to
continuously improve the Daminion Beta versions (that will be free of charge up
to 0.99)."

Rectification : the 30 second odd delay is only when you launch the program - once the program is running it takes 1-2 seconds to open a catalog, i.e. close a catalog and open another one. Testing with +/- 2000 jpegs.

This is a keeper for me but I won't keep going on about it...  :P

Still testing and it's looking good - to me anyway.

I'm waiting to hear from the dev about the different versions.

The only drawback that I've found so far is that it takes a while, maybe 30 seconds to load the catalog (testing with +/- 500 jpegs) when you open the program.

Well I checked with the developer Murat H. Korkmazov and he said this :

"We plan to release 3 editions of the Daminion Standalone

Daminion Free - $0
Daminion Std - $99 US
Daminion Pro - $199 US"

I don't yet know the differences between the versions.

Is anyone testing Daminion ?
It is in beta so is still rather unsteady but it looks good so far - any comments ?
(I have no relation with the company !)

Timns Apps / Re: Auspex
« Last post by joiwind on March 20, 2011, 05:43 AM »
timns, I was checking open ports on my PC the other day and I found this :

TCP   192.168.200.117    34910   98.130.197.240   80   CLOSE_WAIT   5704   auspex.exe   C:\Program Files\auspex\Auspex.exe

34910 being the local port and 80 the remote port
5704 the PID
98.130.197.240 resolves to ECOMMERCE-HOSTING

so I was wondering why auspex needs to listen even if the port is closed - is it for the "update" ?

and un-installed all the other RSS readers except for Desktop Ticker from Mike Batt.

Nice to know he's still active. I remember his song "Remember You're a Womble" very fondly

Well I don't remember that - maybe I wasn't in the UK at that time - but he is active and the Ticker is regularly updated.

+++++ 1 RSSOwl for me too.

It may take up some resources, but after having compared it with 'most' of the other readers, I consider it to be the best and most suited to my needs.
The filters are very powerful and if used in conjunction with 'news bins' then you can really sort things out and read through your important news.
I usually keep alternatives of many of my apps (e.g. Opera as an alternative to K-Meleon) but here I've kept only RSSOwl and un-installed all the other RSS readers except for Desktop Ticker from Mike Batt.

If this poll included comics then I would vote for :

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and

Mr. Natural

As to why, well I'll let you work that out, but if you don't know who they are then you'll never know why I vote for them !  :D

Folks, new Auspex is up. I'm wondering if we should lock this thread and move everyone over to the other one here:

Yes, here

I say yes... good idea.

@ timns, thanks for the new version which does indeed load up very quickly. Everything seems to be working but I'm still getting that ghost tab in the taskbar. Must be something here in my setup but it only happens with Auspex.

Still getting the ghost tab - see attached screen.
And double-click on the tray icon still won't open Haruspex, sorry Auspex.

Also, but I think I mentioned this before : if you create a new folder then add an entry to that folder, then drag that new folder into, for example, 'Autocompletions', it stays there but if you then click on the 'renew' button the new folder comes back out of the parent folder and a blank entry is created, which causes an access violation (see screen2) when you try to delete it.

Otherwise looking good...

General Software Discussion / Re: SpamCombat <-> MailWasher
« Last post by joiwind on January 24, 2011, 05:03 PM »
Been through the same process : MailWasher (paid) out, Spamcombat in.

I gave up on MW when they introduced the new gui (I was beta-testing) and soon chucked it when seeing the CPU hitting the roof.

The only drawback with SC for me is that it is no longer in development but it does what I want it to do and well - go for it timns.

Yes, you're right - it's TAB. I have some triggered by just TAB and some with TAB and SPACE (I'm still testing after all...).
So SPACE works fine but it seems that ENTER won't work either.

I've tried re-indexing, closing and re-opening but no triggers for replacements work... only the autocompletion popups show and work.

Also there is a ghost tab in the task bar when 'closing' to tray.

Then the wizard : works fine for 'Replacements' but not for 'Completions', with the latter you just get an empty entry in the word list which gives an error when you delete it.

xp etc.

When you installed the new build, did you also definitely replace the .dll also? I'm sure you did, but I have to ask since it's such an obvious explanation for that behaviour.

Yup, I just installed (unzipped) over the previous build.

....  :-\ ... trying to find a pun on wizard ...

Timns Apps / Auspex Suggestions
« Last post by joiwind on January 17, 2011, 06:36 AM »
1) that the pop-up with suggestions follows the cursor or the caret, at present it is at top left of the open text window
2) minimize and maximize...!

I've been thinking about the word lists which are becoming very long and about what would be the best way to arrange them (if they should be arranged) :
  • tree with folders ?
  • alphabetical folders ?
  • tabs ?

...Be prepared...  ;)
