Die2000 is listed in the pranks section of my website, but it does exactly that when run.

This only applies to the tablet/smartphone/whatever version of windows, where applications must be programmed using a specific language which is not what firefox is coded in. It's a situation not unlike what happens in android/ios, I'm not surprised. I would be worried if this were to happen on the "regular" desktop Windows.

+1 - I can't use FF on my current Windows 7 phone either ... So what exactly is "changing"? Sounds like chapter two of the Vista era FUD bashing fad is cranking up to me.  :-\

(i want a david8 that looks like benedict cumberbatch done up as sherlock...)

That may be unwise - IIRC - Ridley didn't like the robot character in the first alien movie due to its predecessors tendency to freakout and kill people.

Ah, I missed that 'Got a server?' detail when scanning the page, thanks

Me too ... Actually I missed the whole damn thread yesterday somehow. This really is a rather interesting option.

Living Room / Re: Magnetic Bacteria for Storage

After temporarily being the latest hotest trend ...iM_Pod... They'll be sued out of existence when the cheaply made Chinese bacteria powered data storage implants start cracking open and releasing the bacteria into the users bloodstream. Once the bacteria eat all the iron out of the users blood the resulting fatigue will leave them incapable of calling for help when circulation is cut off by clumps of the now magnetic bacteria.

the day we stop resisting it we become part of it.

That seems to be a danger. The problem being, who controls "it". I fear it will not be the person chipped that is in control.

He's got a point Ren, gilded cages are still cages ... yet the occupants rush to close themselves inside.

I'm not sure I follow. The guilded cage of reality where you are forced to follow the laws of physics vs. the cage of an artificial reality controlled by someone else?

Correct. From a marketing stand point we know it isn't hard to get people to stampede for a hot new "entertainment" product/technology/toy. Then, once everyone is securely locked inside - Purely for their own "safety" (much like a rollercoaster...) - the ride takes on an entirely different turn.

Being "chipped" is the end. It changes you from being human to being property - slavery. It is the ultimate in surveillance and total control.

Right. Knew that. I was just doing a sarcastic parody of a futuristic sales brochure.

If you start accepting such monopoly as fair practice and then also dont mind google stalking you as annoying, or try to justify every act of your favorite brand then you're perfect candidate for chip implants in head.
Are you suggesting there may be something wrong with having chips implanted in one's head?
Enquiring minds need to know.     ;)

Nothing wrong actually if you are not part of 'em.

...But one of the chips primary features is to prevent you from enquiring about things that might upset you. It's the new medication free way to maintain calm from the inside out!

^ I've never used your image editor... I knew about your icon editor and it's aces, so I'm glad this came up so I can take a look!

I've played with Vlastimil's RealWorld Paint quite a bit and it is indeed a very handy thing to have (portable version  :-*). While I don't have Photoshop here at the office thanks to RWP, I don't miss it either. :)

"All it takes" to avoid the "Cheap Chinese Crap" image is some smart advertising, maybe using words like "old time quality at old time prices", calling on the days when everything was made better or such.

Assembled with pride in the USA! ...Would definitely get my attention.
-Stoic Joker (May 01, 2012, 11:56 AM)

But but but, I don't wanna move to the USA :( lol  ;D

Oh yeah, duh! ...I was just trying to play off of Tao's CCC comment and forgot that particular detail. Never the less, that type of (support the locals) pitch does tend to resonate well with some folks.

Love your pets like they love you, and never dismiss them as "Just an animal" ... They are part of our families and part of our lives...and if you have committed to getting a pet, you should treat them as good as you would a child.

people have ponied up $24 extra for the hard copy.

Hell, I'm not even sure who she is and I'm tempted to buy one just to back her for bucking the system.

Somebody bump this thread in September when it goes on sale so I don't forget.

Only problem is it would fight the keyboard for primacy horozontal space, but it is an interesting idea.
HP has an option in that department. Some of their AIOs that normally sit up like a typical monitor, can also slide down to a tablet friendly input access angle.

Can you clarify the "Can't adjust volume part"?

I know not this BSOD of which you speak ... Is it an evil demon??

(but seriously...)

Seen a few (customer issue) BSODs, but they are usually memory failure, bad drivers (ATI CCC), or edgy/failed HDDs.

By the way, the Syncdocs thing seems to be a bit of a scam. After it has synced 500 documents, it stops syncing and asks you to start paying a fee for the service. Since I don't value the service nor the data, I am hardly likely to be willing to pay for it - in fact, I think the bandwidth it uses in duplicating all those files is a waste of money.
For example, if I have a document in (say) 3 different Gdocs virtual folders (they are really labels), then SyncDocs faithfully creates 3 "real" folders on my local PC and puts one copy of the document into each of them. Sheesh.

Good to know, thanks.

If I pull document properties with Adobe Reader 9 (of your attached copy), it says it can be viewed/printed with v7.0 or higher. Printing isn't restricted, editing is. I've seen the shrink to fit margin issue cause problems quite frequently. I really don't see a point in trying to "crack" an unlocked file.

How does the Reader Print to File option behave ... And what if any error messages are there?? Does it get stuck in the spooler...or does it just not do anything, and vanish?
2975
C2 prints fine for me also. Don't know of any other/handier save to formats ... What are you trying to print it from -> to?? Please don't tell me you're on a Mac...I'll start laughing.
