^ I think kalos is the IT guy :)
2902
^ bumped it a wee bit for you :P

thanks jesse (and Deo and I think I managed to confuse you Tao ;-)),
I thought that was the case, just wanted to be sure as I was planning a 'half-and-half' donation (half for the site).

So FWIW it's probably still helpful to actively donate credits to the site (after 'making your donation' - getting bogged down here again :D).
2904
^ :)

on a practical note:
I wanted to give a couple of people donations - if I 'make a donation' does it all automatically go to the site?
or do I have do donate to the site after getting the credits, if you follow me.

Meanwhile, I tend to post-and-modify, so I don't see "nobbc" - I do see a dropdown for "basic text" - is that roughly the same thing?

modifying my post above (same as the 'full' reply page, or when you preview the quick-reply):

You'd make a great teacher Tao
I'm going to 'listen-in' as I'm learning here too

PS if you want the forum to display just text (and not mess around with html etc.) there's
  • disable bbc code button/ tags: [nobbc][/nobbc]
  • code highlighting drop down box

- both visible when you go to preview (as opposed to quick reply)

I'd say the big test will be when you try from home. I'm in Germany but not too far from you, and havent had any problems lately.

When I first noticed that Automation was in development, I thought ‘here goes another build-your-own car game where reality and basic engineering principles don’t exist. Oh well, I’ll keep my eye on it.’ I downloaded the demo, and curiosity eventually got the best of me. I contacted the developers who kindly supplied a copy of the full game under the condition that I wouldn't reveal anything until it went to early release on Steam. As I began exploring the game, my desk became the epicentre of a massive facepalm storm. What is wrong with me? Why did I let other games destroy my faith? Why didn’t I get my hands on this game sooner?

Edit:  I read the review.  One minor typo in the version number you have 1.2.3.0 instead of 1.3.2.0.

I think you covered the utility's functionality nicely.  I am very glad you enjoy using it

Thanks! Review updated for 1.3.3.0 and reworked a bit to be more comprehensive -

Tomos, I'll remind you that the dc apps don't have a built in updater -- just a built-in update CHECKER.
So I'm afraid that's not an option.

You might be thinking of using the optional dcupdater standalone tool -- but i'm trying to phase that out, just because it's more trouble than it's worth i think..

ah sorry about that
(if dcupdater is installed, it works as I described)

Where are you guys getting the betas from??

you usually get it from the first post in this thread - but I see it has been officially released.

If it hasnt been offered to you yet, try right-clicking farr icon in the tray and check for updates.

Does the in-app updater (dcupdater) work?
(right-click tray icon of dc app >check for updates - then update within that app)

he's given you a template file - all you need is to test it with one linked file to see if it works in practice.

^when you've done that^ you can worry about whether you need an app to list files (the "directory reader")

Tomos, the process I designed is meant to tie right in to a dir reader because it produces the complete index list of folders all at once - so he will need it pretty quickly. Part of the point is the dir reader "can't lie" vs typing them in by hand. So for example if there are client names, and he enters them by hand, and one of them is something like Schaefeirmann, whoever is doing data entry by hand will get that wrong 3 times out of 10, whereas the dir reader produces a "cold facts" dump where it cannot be wrong with random spelling errors. That's part of the system I designed.

^ I'm actually very interested in the process you describe. My point was that he try it with one or two ('manually') linked files first to see if it works - a proof of concept - then he could look at setting up the more complex system.

@kalos, it seems to me it would be a good idea if you showed your manager a few of the replies here - or the whole of the two threads. They might reconsider.

I'd seen an older version of this a while back - this smoother and higher resolution. Very impressive storm timelapse... looks a bit like a ufo

@kalos, I'm quite a basic spreadsheet user - I have used relative links (but not using excel), and I can follow Tao's posts (in particular #12 & #14).
Try rereading them and give it a go and see if it works - he's given you a template file - all you need is to test it with one linked file to see if it works in practice.

^ Dont know if it's true, but I've heard flying dreams are related to times of big change in life, or very stressful times - like growing up. Around ten years of age would fit that I guess?
I used have them quite a bit in my teens and early twenties. Like you say Miles - like being underwater, but in the air.
I always really enjoyed them though :)

Great to see this being updated Miles
I still using an older version on my win 7 desktop - and am just after adding it to my Win 8.1 laptop.

Also just updated the mini-review I had written (a couple of years ago now!).
  • I still have to add the hotkey to close all Explorer windows (havent used it yet)
  • also seem to have missed out on whatever the middle-mouse button does [edit] I see info about it in the about box [/edit]
  • [edit] I see I also missed out on other stuff from the about box - will add [/edit]
Was wondering if you could skim though the review and tell me if I missed out on any of the features, or if anything else needs to be updated?
Thanks :)
