Do you hate AutoPlay? I Do.

This little tip will show you how to turn it off.

AutoPlay is one of those things that tries to be smart and figure out what to do when you insert a cd or removable drive.  It will scan the drive (or cd) and run whatever installer is on the cd, or if its a removable usb drive it will pop up a dialog and start scanning the drive to try to guess what you might want to do with the drive.  Guess what? It's my drive, I think I know what i want to do with it thank you very much.  If i want a clippy artificial intelligence on my computer i'll install this.

Ok so if you want to disable autoplay for all or just some drives (or just removable drives), go to theMicrosoft PowerToys for Windows XP Web Page, and find the download for TweakUI on the bottom right.

Once TweakUI is installed, run it and go to the "My Computer -> AutoPlay" section, and there you go, just disable what you dont want, or re-enable it as you wish.

ps.
If you have the opposite problem - you lost your AutoPlay and TweakUI wont fix it for you, try this Microsoft AutoPlay fixer tool.

Activation/License/Language Help / Re: process tamer
« Last post by mouser on November 10, 2006, 07:51 PM »
first thing first, there is no reason it shouldnt work with ie7 - i have ie7 here and process tamer seems to be working fine.
so it must be something else..
can you try some experiments and see if you can narrow down some clues about when it happens, maybe some other programs that might be running that it interacts badly with.. does it otherwise seem to work? what OS do you have? are you using the most recent version?
28856
zero - i dont really understand the answer about speeding up stuff.
i'd still love to have the orbit downloader people tell us:
1) why does it connect to their server
2) what information does it send+receive
28857
see this:
http://research.sunb...r&threatid=14913

it reports on a different but similarly named program called "Orbit Explorer" which i guess is spyware.

it seems to be extremely likely that "Orbit Downloader" above is being FALSELY reported by this program as spyware because the spyware scanner is falsely thinking it is "Orbit Explorer" which just tells me not to trust spyware doctor..

to summarize: we still don't know for sure, but it's looking to me like Orbit Downloader is not spyware/malware..  the investigation continues in the irc channel, we will continue to report updates! stay tuned!
28858
spybot finds nothing.

moby, your image above shows it is reporting english translation .ini files as malware??

another thing:
this program is reporting this as "xupiter" which it says ads an ad-based IE toolbar .  from testing orbit in a virtual pc i can say it does not do this.

if i had to guess i'd say these are false alarms based on the fact that the program puts a hook in internet explorer in order to catch and help with downloads.  that's just my initial guess though, im not confident enough to answer this for sure.  hopefully more people with more experience can report.
28859
ad-aware does not report anything..
28860
orbit explicitly says it is free and contains no spyware and adware.  i agree it very much pays to be on the lookout for scams but until someone can verify that this is not a false alarm i think people need to be very careful about spreading false rumours.

i have installed it in a virtual machine and see no sign of adware yet.

I have always liked the feel of Edge Diagrammer.  They have a slightly reduced program for $45 called wizflow:
http://www.pacestar.com/wizflow/desc.htm

i havent been keeping up with the competition so i don't know how it stacks up, i just know that its one of the few diagramming programs that i actually enjoyed using.

is it possible that the music program is writing it out to that directory while its saveing it and so log monitor is trying to copy it before the file is complete?  not sure.

Log Monitor - Great Free Tool for Monitoring Files+Dirs and Acting on Changes

This program, an abandoned freeware utility, has been mentioned before on the forum but i don't think it quite got the attention it deserves.  It's a deceptively powerfull and useful program.

Latest version seems to have been v1.42, but it appears to have been discontinued a while ago.. If someone feels like getting in touch with the author, tell him to stop by!

Log Monitor is a program for monitoring of changes of files and directories, capable to fulfil a number of actions at reaching the given conditions. Main purpose of the program is to automate the routine operations based on files exchange and also to watch a state of processes, being based on their file activity.

Also mentioned on the forum in passing in these threads:

Archived forum: http://web.archive.o...forum/list.asp?id=35

Credit to patteo who first alerted us to this tool.  I actually use Log Monitor with my internet radio station downloader to detect when a new file is downloaded, rename it with date+time stamp, and then file it for storage.

not a stupid question.
if you are a supporting member (donate whatever amount you want), i'm always happy to make custom license keys which say whatever you want.  it's a bit harder if you are not a supporting member because i'm not quite set up for it; it could be done though if need be.  you can email me at [email protected]

i probably should not make those red - i did so to draw attention to them since they are new and very important to the different ways the program could be used.

i'll look into the copy to clipboard thing autosaving; it shouldnt have to so thats a bug.

can you describe the email paste issue so i can try to reproduce it?

What version of Process Tamer are you using?  The ability to tame some of these system services like antivirus was only added recently..  The latest version is v2.08.01

i agree with lanux, in general if you join a forum and on your first day make 3 posts all about the same program it doesn't give a good impression.

however, it should be said that this post in this section is 100% appropriate and welcome

looks like an interesting new free program and definitely worth checking out.  just please dont make 10 posts per day about it!
