General Software Discussion / Re: Adventures in cleaning (my cranky) computer

As for your suggestion about the snapshot software, I'll take suggestions for an easy one that can modularly reverse each software's changes. I thought broadly that's what add-remove uninstall was supposed to do - but apparently it doesn't.

sounds more like system restore - dont use it often but it has usually worked well for me...

General Software Discussion / Looking for a very flexible timer
« Last post by tomos on April 07, 2015, 11:29 AM »
I know there's loads of timers out there, so maybe this exists already:

looking for a timer where I can add subtract from the time shown e.g.
say it's showing 1:30:25 - I can change that time (via slider or numerically) to, say, 1:15:00.
Using a slider could be a bit like an mp3 player UI - here based on Trout:

Screenshot - 2015-04-07 , 18_12_13_copy.png

Bonus points if I can use it to keep track of what I'm actually doing during this time i.e. make notes within the app itself.
Even more points if that's exportable ;-)

it's worth noting that VirtualBox will not work if you have a modified version of uxtheme.dll (which has to be modified if you want to use non-windows themes for the OS).
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/13767

Should work otherwise (and/or if you replace/restore the dll).

It's pretty easy to set up. Just install virtualbox (or use the portable edition) and then follow the other few steps they have there.

that prompted me to give it a go - do ^that^ and
then this:

in fairness it does look very easy - and if I say that, it's *got* to be easy :D
When I read VM initially, I was thinking OS install etc. etc. but they seem to have all that covered

didnt notice this mentioned (may have missed it)

For now Microsoft is keeping it quiet, but Build 9926 of the Windows 10 Technical Preview released last week can be downloaded and installed via Windows Update on Windows 7 and Windows 8.
[...]
For now this method comes with a caveat: a small file is needed. Users go to Microsoft’s Technical Preview page and click the ‘Start upgrade now’ button. This downloads the file, you run it and afterwards you will be prompted to restart your PC. On first boot Windows Update will now show ‘Upgrade to Windows 10’ as an option.

my emphasis

is it really ready for fully upgrading OS?
(I wouldnt chance it myself, not yet anyways)

got one of those mini bluetooth speaker delivered Saturday:
Rokono® (F10) BASS+ Mini Bluetooth Speaker (amazon.com - I paid 30 euro for mine)

Screenshot - 2015-04-06 , 11_42_21.png

it seems to be exactly the same as this differently branded version.

Not overly impressed - with bluetooth connection there's a white-noiseIhiss clearly audible when music isnt playing, or when listening to spoken word... otherwise I'd be happy enough with it.

« Last post by tomos on April 06, 2015, 04:35 AM »
Ghoster, by Skrommel, perhaps?

I used Ghoster before LeDimmer. The reason I stopped was because if I change the setting showontop=1, the whole prog would not work right anymore. And that prog too hasn't been updated since a long time ago.

the source is there though, so it might be possible that you - or someone else - could fix it

Most of the listed programs there either don't support time intervals lower than 1 minute or don't support choosing images randomly from subdirectories or aren't compatible with Win7.

Skwire's Spews covers all that:

Looking for a HTML editor free or paid:

I'm in the middle of a four day course in HTML & CSS.
We're using Web Architect (Mirabyte) which is fairly easy to use - but very mouse-orientated. Also, a lot of stuff is hidden in menus (in spite of using the ribbon format), so maybe better described as mouse-intensive and keyboard unfriendly.

@HankFriedman, wondering what did you end up going with?

Anyone else got any suggestions for 2015?
TIA

my only objections are superficial:
it totally clashes with the style and colours used by the site already; and it could be slimmer heightwise.

^ how does it 'run on air' :tellme:

I'd guess it runs on compressed air (CO2) cartridges, like paintball guns. And also it doesn't look like it moves very fast. Some of those shots looked like they were done in slow motion, but I think they were actually full-speed.

Compressed air sounds logical.
I think the engine can go faster (~30mph - or was it kmph) but they're afraid it might just disintegrate....

Living Room / Re: Don Cheadle making Miles Ahead film
« Last post by tomos on March 27, 2015, 06:08 AM »
I'm a huge Don Cheadle fan. I would almost pay to watch him sit and read the phone book. I can't think of anyone else I would rather see playing Miles.

I loved the film The Guard.  He and Brendan Gleeson  were great together.

that was great fun :)

Shades, that was the first thing I tried. It didn't work for me unfortunately.  I think I even posted in the thread for help.

I think you might have missed the update the author made for you ?

Okay a new version is up check first post for download link.

Also stisev sorry I couldn't get to it sooner cause of my sickness I would appreciate if you report back on it so I know it is fixed/I still got to track it down.

I finally ate more than I have been since Monday tonight, so I felt somewhat like poking in my code to hopefully find/fix it. :)

Activation/License/Language Help / Re: Licencia para Snooper
« Last post by tomos on March 25, 2015, 07:03 AM »
Hello.  I am new to the forum and I am looking for a key for Snooper, the recording program.  Am I in the correct place?  Many thanks!  (The voice recording Snooper, not the URL Snooper :)).

What's 'The voice recording Snooper, not the URL Snooper' ?
Have you got a link for it?
