I apologize for the delay in posting the roundup -- I've been working hard on the new DC servers..  I will post it in the next day or two.. Standby!

I have uploaded a "translator pack" here:
https://www.donation...y_translatorpack.zip

It has instructions and all the files that need translating to create a full new language version.

I have also added the translator pack files under the documentation/ subdirectory in the github repository.

Welcome, thosch! And thank you for the german wordlist

I'm happy to make some german books.
Do you think you might be willing to translate the instruction text as well?

By the way, we have a larger wordlist now.. If you feel like translating the extra words..

You guys who aren't playing this are missing out -- it's a ton of fun.

Updated with new scoring rules, as follows:
"+2 point per target found, +10 per unused turn, -5 per mistake, -10 if sudden death.  Games ended by a black word score differently: -10 points for each unused turn, mistake, and unfound target.  Penalize illegal clues by ticking an extra turn and mistake checkbox."

Just saw season 4 ep 1 (star trek episode).  AMAZING.  Best episode of all 4 years by far.

This is a fascinating (though short) interview with famous director Ridley Scott on how he decided to reshoot a huge part of his latest film in a very short amount of time, to get rid of an actor with a major part in the film.

http://www.vulture.c...-world-reshoots.html

The real-life narrative depicted in All the Money in the World is quite the yarn — after his grandson is kidnapped... Director Ridley Scott originally cast Kevin Spacey as the 80-year-old Getty and covered him in prosthetics, but after the actor was the subject of numerous sexual-assault allegations in October, Sony pulled All the Money in the World from its planned premiere at AFI Fest. A wide release seemed untenable, and a delay of the film could have meant that Trust, an FX mini-series covering the same story, would come out first...

That’s when Scott settled on an unprecedented gambit: He would cast 88-year-old Oscar winner Christopher Plummer to take over the Getty role, convince Williams and Wahlberg to come back for reshoots over the Thanksgiving holiday, and quickly integrate the new footage into the movie so it could still hit a 2017 release date. Astonishingly, the results are seamless.

As is traditional, we will let people keep submitting until the end of new year's day, server time.. so about 7 hours left from the time I post this (midnight central standard time USA).

I will create the NANY 2018 roundup post after that and contact all participants..  If you have any instructions for me about your NANY -- what to mention in the roundup and what not to -- send me a message.
And please do update your threads now with any relevant info, screenshots, links to youtube videos, etc.

For those interested in translating, look at the japanese subfolder -- that shows you a fully translated game (words, templates, etc.).  But when you translate you can leave out certain files and they will resort to default english.

Note also that you don't have to strictly translated the word list -- it will simply use whatever words are there.  In that way you could also make alternate themed versions of the game that used subsets of words (like a halloween book that only had scary words, etc.).

Site/Forum Features / Re: Problem with Sizing of Font
« Last post by mouser on January 01, 2018, 09:49 AM »
Is there a reason it defaults to red when you click the font size button?
the only reason is that there is no separate color button (because i don't want to encourage coloring!), so i thought i would just have the font size button insert a sample color code to remind you how to set colors.  but i guess i could remove that -- it doesn't sound like a very convincing reason when i say it out loud :)

By the way, the easiest way to play with new word lists is probably to create a new "language" subdirectory and then put your wordfile_default.txt in that subdirectory, and invoke from source/ directory like "cnduet.py --language MYSUBDIRNAME".

Although you are only replacing the wordlist and not creating new language translations, this is the easiest and most flexible solution for testing.
Alternatively you can put the wordfile_default.txt in the main data directory and specify it on the commandline with --wordfile argument.

The repository that I have open sourced, as well as the zip file download in the first link has pre-built english pdfs you can just printout and play with.

The source code repository also includes the python utilities that will let you generate new gamebook pdfs, using the included or your own custom word lists, and will let you translate the words and instructions into other languages (japanese is included).  If you can run python and you are on windows or linux x86 you should be able to use these utilities.

If you do make new translations and/or wordfiles, either merge them or send them to me and I can merge them into the official repository.

Note I went to the linked github page and dont see anything accessible (well, not to me at any rate).
It should be live and fully there.

For the new year I like to clean up my PC a bit.  I created some new full drive image backups, and now I'm doing some folder and file organization.  Nice to start the new year clean and organized.

One of my new year's resolutions is to finally use my table saw.

Official Announcements / Big News: New DonationCoder Server
« Last post by mouser on December 31, 2017, 11:25 AM »
The provisioning of our new official servers is now complete!!!

I will post much more about the process, the company chosen to be our hosting provider, the specs of the new servers, in the next couple of days.
(We will have a fundraiser later this year to pay for it!)

I am extremely excited about the entire process -- the main site upgrade to a proper CMS, the new servers, the new member server setup, etc.
The new server is a huge upgrade over our current one.

We will be migrating to the new servers in the coming week or two.. I will post more details as it is about to happen, but you can expect some hiccups as we change over, and the site may be unreachable for a day or so as the DNS propagation happens.

Stay tuned!!
