Amen.

(reminds me of the sketch in 'Jam' about the stupid people that you can't win an argument against because they are too stupid to realise they've actually lost the argument.)

i have to lend my voice to what mouser is saying.

Javajones, it seems all too obvious to say such a thing but have you not considered writing your reviews for DonationCoder?

i know that there are many of us around here that have wanted to create the 'ultimate' review site on the web. if you could kick-start the process then i'm sure it would be greatly appreciated. of course, if it is a very personal project that you have in mind then i understand your desire to create a separate web presence.

abcAVI Tag Editor should help, as they say "Add, Browse and Change AVI tags".

probably, there's a few other little progs to do it too.

General Software Discussion / Re: XnView 1.90 Alpha (Early test version)
« Last post by nudone on August 12, 2006, 03:58 AM »
just wanted to report back that 'maxview' is something you really should try.

it's not for thumbnail browsing but the features it packs for single image viewing are perfect.

i'm, sort of, using it with several instances of the program at a time - each one previewing a different image in a neat frameless window (irrelevant information perhaps). the point i'm trying to make is that it opens up a different way of working to that of the usual file browser method - there is quick access to menus that contain most of the features you could expect from such an app.

(truth is, you could use 'irfanview' in a similar way, or even just xnview or whatever, but 'maxview' just seems a bit more polished in it's appearance - if you tinker with it a little.)

like yourself, Zane, i find acdsee a bit too much when you just want quick peeks at image files but i never really got on with 'irfanview'. i'll try 'maxview' for a while and see if that agrees with me more. thanks for mentioning it.

are there any 'major' improvements/changes with the new acdsee 9 beta? i've not seen it yet.

« Last post by nudone on August 11, 2006, 08:27 AM »
The definitions of "natural" and "nuclear" are much longer than those of the other terms. That means they are much more important.

ha, ha, i like your reasoning.
2884
it would certainly be a nice thing to see a new 'copier' util that incorporated the suggestions of DC members as i'm sure there will be plenty of well considered ideas.
2885
agree with nudone. I'd love some Gimp assignments. How about an assignment to create Cody (in different habitats/settings?)? Or would that infringe on nudones Cody copyright?

depending on what is finally decided i could set up an assignment for this - probably using the gimp unless something else was preferred.

i'm not going to say what i am. and i do like you point about atheism, Rover. but, again, nothing evil about being an atheist.

hey, nothing evil about being an atheist  :)

i don't really see the point unless it was offering something that cannot be found elsewhere.

perhaps offerring lessons in how to use 'free' or 'cheap' software would be more appropriate: things like the 'gimp' and 'audacity'.

i've not used the gimp for more than five minutes but i'd (probably) have a go at making a few lessons in how to use it if enough people were interested - but i'm sure there will be places that already do this(?)

lanux128, thanks for mentioning 'supercopier2'. i never really got on with the 'copyhandler' interface so i think i'll be using 'supercopier2' from now on.
2890
i can't honestly remember but i 'think' CopyHandler will do it - it's worth a try...

great review.

i don't think flock is for me but it's good to have a review to help try and persuade otherwise.

(note that cody has taken off the red stockings he was so fond of wearing.)

here's a quick sketch of cody's first reaction to the DC server downtime - be warned. do not view if you are easily upset.

can't say i've heard of anything that will do it in batch mode, or even in a completely automatic way.

really depends on how great the contrast is between the background and the object to separate and how 'clean' you want the separation.

requires manual input i'd say.

cody would just like to express how he feels about the current DC hosts and the recurring server downtime.

brilliant. not tried it myself but it looks like the best way of folding the shirt - no apparatus required. thanks, momonan.

i agree, these are very valuable lessons - better to learn (or begin learning) now rather than at a later time when DC is perhaps even more of a target for attack - drawing more attention will no doubt bring more nuisance in at the same time.

all in all, it looks like a bright DC future. i'm sure everyone is relieved you are on top of it all, mouser.

great to see everything back to normal - DC does leave a very noticeable hole when it's not there.

will a new host be sought or are there advantages staying put?

i thought the scalable fabric thingy was quite interesting for a while, Carol. i think i only kept it running for a few hours though. the novelty wore off.

it would be nice if it was developed further and tidied up a bit.
