your comments are good and i think i should add a mod to the forum to let admin adjust posting date which would solve the move problem.

another hint:
you can actually easily change the order of images in your post to reflect the upload order,
for example use

to say where to show the 3rd attachment, and
[attachthumb=3][/attachthumb]
to show 3rd attachment as a thumbnail where you want it.

for visualizing ideas i really do most often use paper - keep a notebook or two just for sketching ideas.
but a flowchart/diagramming tool can be really nice too.

i missed it to for the first few months...
a nice change might be to go to first unread even when you click on the main title of the thread - there aren't many cases where that's not what you want.

N.A.N.Y. Challenge 2007 / Welcome to NANY section, EARLY BETA RELEASES
« Last post by mouser on December 12, 2006, 07:19 PM »
This is the first post in the new N.A.N.Y. (New Apps for the New Year) section.

Read more about the N.A.N.Y. challenge here: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=6231.0

Right now all supporting/honorary members can see this section but we may restrict it to NANY participants only until jan 1.

The idea was to have a place where we might post beta versions for testing before release time.

"FTC Moves to Unmask Word-of-Mouth Marketing: Endorser Must Disclose Link to Seller"

Not a minute too soon - there should be laws requiring full and clear disclosure on all such relationships.

The Federal Trade Commission yesterday said that companies engaging in word-of-mouth marketing, in which people are compensated to promote products to their peers, must disclose those relationships.

In a staff opinion issued yesterday, the consumer protection agency weighed in for the first time on the practice. Though no accurate figures exist on how much money advertisers spend on such marketing, it is quickly becoming a preferred method for reaching consumers who are skeptical of other forms of advertising.

Word-of-mouth marketing can take any form of peer-to-peer communication, such as a post on a Web blog, a MySpace.com page for a movie character, or the comments of a stranger on a bus.
...
The group cited a 2002 Wall Street Journal article on a marketing campaign by Sony Ericsson Mobile for its T68i mobile phone and digital camera. The initiative, called "Fake Tourist," involved placing 60 actors posing as tourists at attractions in New York and Seattle to demonstrate the camera phone. The actors asked passersby to take their photo, which demonstrated the camera phone's capabilities, but the actors did not identify themselves as representatives for Sony Ericsson.

Commercial Alert also singled out Tremor, a marketing division of Procter & Gamble, which has assembled a volunteer force of 250,000 teenagers to promote the company's products to friends and relatives.

General Software Discussion / Freewaregenius.com site - freeware reviews
« Last post by mouser on December 12, 2006, 06:17 PM »
One of our programs (Process Tamer) was mentioned on a site today that i don't remember hearing about before.  But it is quite nice.  Reviews the authors favorite freeware discoveries.  His mission statement sounds nice and the site has a nice blog feel to it, along with nice big pictures and commentary.

My mission: To replace as many retail/shareware software as I can with first rate FREEWARE alternatives, such that one day every installed program that I use will be FREE.

But this site will not list every single free program on the planet. Sometimes less is more!

I assume that for every category there are one or two programs that anybody would want to use. This site will present you with these handful of options, filtered and picked out.

If you have better things to do than scour the web for cracks, serials, and hacked copies of the software you use, then this site is for you, because the free software that is presented here is in most cases BETTER than anything you could pay for.

I created this site because I enjoy finding, downloading and testing new software. I hope you will enjoy these programs too.

Stumbled on bobyte.com from a suggestion on alt.comp.freeware regarding 3d box art makers.  They have some nice small freeware/donationware multimedia utilities..

PhotoShape (Freeware 3D Image rotator)
Put a new perspective on things by rotating images in three dimensions. Results can be used immediately or carried over to other applications.

AviTricks classic (Freeware video editor)
Try our popular video editor. A range of powerful features make it a serious alternative to expensive editing suites.

AviSplit classic (Freeware AVI/DivX video joiner, splitter and cutter)
Our most popular program: a perfect blend of simplicity and utility. We’re well on our way to a million downloads of this one.

AviScreen Classic (Freeware video streaming and screen capture)
Capture screen activity as video or bitmap images. The unique “follow the cursor option” allows you to zoom in on what’s really happening.

CombiMovie classic (Freeware mpeg joiner)
Combine two or more files into one continuous mpg file. Fast and easy for digital camera or Internet movies.

BoxMaker classic (Freeware 3D design/Image rotator)
A handy three-dimensional virtual packaging design tool.

I will see what i can do to improve this - i think ideally we will just establish a better system for writing reviews.

Hi mouser, about the html review template that I used for the notetaking one, is there a way to preview the webpage while I am working on it?  When I was using it, I could never tell what the end result was going to look like until you actually put it on the site.  Something about php being difficult to preview or something.

i know it sounds like a waste, but the easiest way is to simply click modify on your post in personal area, copy the post contents, and make a new post in the mini review section and paste the contents..

as an administrator i ican also MOVE your post, but the only problem with that is that it will get sorted as if it was written a long time ago.  you can send me a private message to work out more details.

sorry i meant that the donationcoder people who hang out in irc noticed the problem and one of them (anderson aka mobysaurus) sent me an international fax through normal means :)
