General Software Discussion / Re: SoftMaker Office 2012 BETA testing
« Last post by Curt on October 12, 2011, 04:40 PM »
Softmaker Office 2012 will be offered in two versions, Standard and Professional, as Softmaker is going to launch an email client. I don't know how this can be named version 3, I never heard of 1 or 2. And I don't know what other differences there may be, because I don't do betas any more, if I am not sure I can afford to also purchase a license ;-).

Bare in mind that this will give you the right to a discounted upgrade to version 2012, coming in a month or so.

Dear SoftMaker customer:

SoftMaker Office 2012 for Windows just entered public beta testing, and
we invite you to download and try out this new version of our office
suite.

Some of the major improvements are:

1. All applications read and write DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX files seamlessly.
2. Integrated eM Client manages your e-mails, contacts, calendars, and tasks.
3. Built-in Berlitz dictionaries for easy translation

No program will display a pdf popup in Explorer, merely on hover, they all need you to first activate the file - also Quick Tool (right-click). There are a couple of viewers that will display them all, pdf pics text rtf, but not in Explorer. Wouldn't it be enough for you to have page 1 as a thumbnail (view: "large icons")?:

I use Nitro Pro 6 OCR, but almost any good pdf editor will give you this feature in Explorer. For pre-viewing photos and text files, I use Quizo QTTabbar, but I cannot make a screenshot of it, to show.

Check out Scribbly
The user-comments are very positive, so I am going to install this one.

-no, I wasn't. No matter what I do, I can't install AIR widgets. First I updated all Adobe programs, but that didn't make any difference. I even rebooted and prevented each and every program from starting, including security related programs (!), but to no avail. All I get is an error message from the homepage's AIR. But I don't think this is due to the homepage; I think it is something on my computer; in general I cannot get AIR widgets.

Is it somehow possible for any of you guys to download this widget, and zip it and pass it on to me?

Check out Scribbly

Many people don't follow links, we know, so here is the link's text:

Scribbly Takes Notes and Emails Them to You

Windows/Mac/Linux (with Adobe AIR):

Note-taking application Scribbly lives in your system tray and lets you quickly write notes or reminders to yourself, and then will email them to you with a single click.

Once you've installed the application, you can simply click the system tray icon to bring up the single note-taking window, type in whatever note you'd like to send to yourself, and then send it off with the click of a button—you'll need to set your email address in the settings, of course. The notes persist even after you minimize the application to the tray, so you can use it to take little notes throughout the day, and then email them to yourself before you go home.

The application is very simple, but where it could be really useful is when you combine it with Gmail's plus-addressing feature—just add something like [email protected] to your email address in the settings, and then setup a Gmail filter to automatically put those notes into a separate label for storage. It's a useful feature that makes it worth a look, at least. Scribbly is free, and for all platforms with Adobe AIR

HTML is supported, and so is the use of hotkeys.

Is that really still the largest photo file size it can handle?

I sure would use such a program  :-*

However, the Anglophile part of the world makes it difficult to simply make one rule. Many or even most Americans have erroneous learned to say and write "kgs" for kilograms. You and I are using "kg", because we know it never is plural; 1 gram, 2 gram. Are you ready to double the set of rules?

Softpedia 10 Year Anniversary:
50 Licenses for Panda Internet Security 2012

http://news.softpedi...ty-2012-226223.shtml

Today we get a bit more serious with our giveaway campaign, and offer 50 licenses for Panda Internet Security 2012. It is a comprehensive security suite designed to keep your system protected against all sorts of malware.

Nothing has changed as far as the requirements for winning a code go. So get your fingers typing an original comment at the bottom of this article. Be as unconventional as you can in order to increase your winning chances.

Panda Internet Security 2012 encompasses all protection layers a regular user may need, and also makes available some extra tools. The latest version of the bundle comes with improved protection against all types of threats, which includes behavior analysis.

The firewall present in the package is designed to keep an eye on attackers and stop malicious activity.

On top of these, you benefit from spam filtering and parental controls that can limit Internet browsing to safe pages. The suite has the ability to protect personal information from being sent through communication channels like instant messaging programs, email and even web searches
Note: You have 24 hours to post your comment from the publish time of this article. Your chances to win one of the 50 free codes are only as good as your comment. So make your remarks as honest and witty as possible.

The winners will be picked from the comments section of this article, and will be contacted in 5 days after the giveaway expires. They will have to provide their full name in private (when required) in order to collect their prize. No other information except for your comment and the alias / nickname you provide will appear online.

We urge you not to double post and, most importantly, be original because pasting from different sources on the Internet will get you kicked from the giveaway campaign.

Follow us on Twitter @spgiveaways to receive updates about the new giveaway

Thank you, Paul. You now have one more entry :-)

Adding the same email address more times, will just give a total of still one entry, but new links are provided each time. Makes me wonder how this is working.

That's why I use Facebook Disconnect
Sorry, we don't support your browser just yet.
You'll need Google Chrome to install apps, extensions and themes.

Download Google Chrome
Extensions > Social & communication > Facebook Disconnect
-Chrome

Should it really help to install Google?  :-\

Anyway, public information:

Facebook Disconnect triggers a warning because the extension has to inject JavaScript into every page you browse to disable the component Facebook links.
