I know that USB Safely Remove (payware) has options to do that on insert of an USB device, configurable per device.
And USBDLM (Free for private and educational use) can do something similar, but is a little bit harder to (manually) configure.

Have you tried the default Java IDE's Eclipse and NetBeans already? Both have plug-ins for so many things there surely is something for js/jq available. I'm not working with those technologies, so I can't give further advise

Living Room / Re: Win 7, XP mode, & other first install queries
« Last post by Ath on July 19, 2011, 07:17 AM »
The only trouble I had going to Vista x64, and later Win7 x64, was with 16 bit installers, and software that isn't UAC-fähig. In practice, being a developer most of the time, I have UAC turned off just for the convenience of not having to confirm program-starts during my daily work.

Why, I won't even need a keyring anymore, since the RFID chip in my nasal cavity will let me into (and let me start) my car, as well as let me in my house.

That would give 'putting your nose in' a whole different meaning ;D

Down to the metal it's all flash memory inside, just the electrical interface and usually some controller to interface between the chips and the interface that makes the difference. Depending on memory and controller speed the storage speed will be different.
It's just that some form-factors are offered cheaper than the others, what makes them more popular amongst consumers, as well as the physical shape, a micro-SD card is rather annoying to take with you as it's so fragile and small, so a more robust USB stick with a keyring attached just feels better/safer. Except when it's put into a computer(-like) device. A Micro-SD card is much more convenient in a mobile phone then a USB stick...
And then there's the case of connectors: a USB plug is designed to be connected/disconnected quite often, while a micro-SD card wasn't designed for that. And where I wrote micro-SD you could replace with any of the other card-like memory devices, though the bigger sizes often have a bit more robust connectors.

What it this better then, say, a hotmail account, or OpenID? and adding an extra annoyance of having to verify the current browser as being allowed to access the service credentials.

Sounds like a solution looking for a problem :o

General Software Discussion / Re: Annoying experience with non-pirated software
« Last post by Ath on July 16, 2011, 07:08 AM »
What a horror-story, and if it where from a low-end games creator it could have been a little bit acceptable/understandable, but getting a pirated copy easier and better (working) on your system just shows how the games industry is failing as a whole. I never play/buy games, nor 'acquire' pirated commercial versions, but experiences like these scare me even further away.

I know it's a complete industry, games software for PC's, but I guess it is time for a good set of free offerings in this area.

Living Room / Re: [HELP!!] Win XP reboots sometimes *after* startup [Any Ideas?]

Did anything else happen to that machine? A 'lightning skrike' like nudone had about 2 weeks ago, a power brown-out, or something similar?

It's just getting from bad to worst.
I had that with a PC that wasn't moved for about 5 years, and after moving it for half a meter ( ! ) it just about fell apart, rebooted spontaneously, or Windows hung without any warning. The ASrock MB inside I had to declare dead, nothing good could be had from it, and I simply replaced the entire machine to avoid endless trouble and support (the owner lives ~1/2h drive away, and I could only go there in the evening because of work obligations).
Maybe this is the point where you should drop this baby/culprit too? :-\

Well... It isn't going to hold up to the NANY rules (it's gotta be spranklin' new), so I'll do a 'normal' v2 re-release in this thread.

It'll take me some time to wrap things up, so don't hold your breath waiting :P

Hm, I've been staring at this issue for long enough, and searched the i-net too, but there seems to be some issue between the Excel Object model and external scripting that's just to tricky to solve in an easy way.
As claimed before: "It works on my machine" (W7 x64, Office 2007 with all updates applied, macro's and VBA enabled to the max)

Guess it's time to start on my earlier claim:
Planned Features
Remove the requirement of having Excel installed locally (involves rewriting in Java...)
Not sure it fits the NANY rules (I'll check that later), but I hope to continue with a tool that has the same functionality, with 1 difference, that it Just Works :tellme:

I'll start to work on it asap, and pledge for NANY2012 if that applies, or re-release as version 2 (the current one really should have gotten v1.0)
That will ofcourse replace the 'Excel-installed' requirement for the 'Java-installed' requirement. ;)

Congrats  what a little persuasion can't do for you ;)

That image just looks so much nicer  compared to what I had so far, I'll add it to the project asap.

I must assume that your Excel install is working normal, as I can't see any reason why it shouldn't, but would it be possible to try this tool on another PC with MS Excel 2007 or 2010 installed?
It's getting a bit weird, next to awkward, as I don't have any testing environments here, that make it fail this way for me.
Tomorrow I'll be able to test on a new system with Office 2010 x64, I'll report here how things are then.

Are there any restrictions like Domain Policies applied to your PC?, or tools that restrict your working environment (performance or usage 'throttling' tools) as that could explain why you get these errors.

Maybe the ReadOnly flag should be set in your (and standard) case.
That can be achieved by adding a 3rd parameter with value True on the call to _ExcelBookOpen in Excel2Html.au3 on line 290, like:
Code: AutoIt [Select]
  1. ...
  2. Local $excelbook = _ExcelBookOpen($excelfile, 1, True) ; Display, so the select & copy can work
  3. ...

Could you retry with this change, please?

Then could you please install AutoIt3 from here (during install, select to execute the .au3 file by default, not to edit it) and run from the .au3 file (you could rename the .exe to something else), the proposed commandline would be like:
 "Excel2Html.au3 -f testaddresses.xlsx -t Excel2Html-all-template.html -o test.html"
and report the actual errormessage the script errors out with, as the line-number from the compiled .exe is not anywhere near correct or realistic.

Might be a 'Trust' issue.
Excel is supposed to open the file, and E2H then accesses the Excel objectmodel in memory to select all data, copies that to the Windows Clipboard and processes it from there to merge it using the template. If E2H isn't allowed to access the in-memory Excel instance, then the errormessage you showed is one of several that could occur.
You might need to configure Excel to allow access to the VBA Object Model in the Excel Trust center (Office button, Options button, Trust center, Settings for Trust center, Macro settings, enable checkbox: 'Allow access... VBA ...' (translated from localized Office)).

Maybe this should have been in the readme file, but I kinda forgot I had this enabled before I started this little project :-[

Just read the article, and he has some good points , though it's a bit narrow-banded, ranting on about the free video converters ;D

the user chooses to download and run it, the updated installer automatically uninstalls the older version silently,

That is normally not needed. Nearly nothing needs an uninstall before an update. You know where you are coming from, application-wise, and where you are going to, so just updating the files that are new should be enough.
That the standard Visual Studio setup project does that, doesn't mean it useful for anything, it's just pure laziness of the MS guys, and meant as an opportunity to sell you a 'real' installer builder like Wise or Installshield. But as you already found out, Inno Setup can do what you need most of the time, easier and with a smaller footprint :) (And yes, I'm an Inno Setup fan, though I also work with Installshield stuff)
