« Last post by nudone on August 19, 2006, 02:26 PM »

isn't an audio cd (or whatever they are called) encoded at a specific rate, i.e. 44.1 kHz 16-bit or something like that.

so whatever messing about you do with the mp3 conversion you'll still end up with the standard audio cd encoding?

Living Room / Re: Traineo - weight loss and fitness tracking website
« Last post by nudone on August 19, 2006, 12:43 PM »
does anyone want to have a go with Traineo - during the DC GTD experiment perhaps, hint, hint.

mouser? looks like you have some interest in this topic?

i've not signed up but if there is a group of us prepared to have a go, then Traineo will probably be a good thing to try.
2854
if the project develops in the way we are hoping then this will be the none failure way to implement GTD.

i suspect you won't be the only person that has tried, animelover120.
2855
very welcome, Dallee.

we'll be expecting advice from everyone that participates over the next three months - what works and what doesn't work for each individual will be valueable information to share.

you've certainly provided us with some initial things to think about and it will help to learn from an experienced GTD'er. i'm sure any further thoughts or advice will be welcomed by all that participate.

I'm in.  I purchased MLO with DC's discount, with an eye to applying a GTD approach but, after a good start, I got distracted and fell off the wagon.  :-[  Thanks for offering a great way for me to take another run at it.

me too. i'm sure it's a common thing to happen, hence the need for this project.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Free, F.e.a.r. online combat multiplayer game

pity that the game requires a pretty high spec machine to play well on, otherwise i'd say let's get together inside the game and shoot each other.

heck, i'll say it anway: anyone up for a DC deathmatch (or team deathmatch, etc)?

thank, jgpaiva. great to see an update - i knew you'd have one sooner or later.

i'll try the new version over the weekend and report back - i can't really get to my main pc at the moment.

I'm in as well. I could really use the excuse to properly implement GTD instead of searching for a software tool that will provide a "silver bullet".

that is certainly the idea of the project/experiment.

Podcast Radio Show / Re: W T F happened with the music in podcast #4?
« Last post by nudone on August 18, 2006, 01:08 AM »
i thought the podcast was a great improvement this time - it had that 'professional' kind of air to it with the way it flowed together. so, many thanks/congratulations to all involved.

zaine finally convinced me to try xyplorer and i found myself chuckling to it throughout - at the correct places.

i would have prefferred for some of the sound levels to be different. i couldn't really understand what i was saying myself - i sounded a bit quiet i thought. admittedly, perhaps it was better to try and drown me out - it does sound like i need to talk quicker before the listener falls asleep.

but other than the sound level i think it was a brilliant job.

oh, i did miss hearing something from mouser.

i'm in, of course - just making it official.

oh, that's good, think i might go for that offer - it always did seem a bit too pricey.

from what i've seen it might be the kind of app to come in handy for the right type of project even if it's not something to use straight away.

Renox, i think there can be good reasons to use voip (as you've mentioned). if you needed any help or wanted to discuss something then you could always just make the suggestion that you would prefer to use voip and see what happens after that.

how about meeting up virtually in good old 'cyberspace'. in somewhere like 'second life' http://secondlife.com/

or we could all meet up inside a game of unreal tournament (or whatever) and try and kill each other.

my experience is that voip methods of communicating seemed like a great idea until i used them. strangely, it felt like a novelty and i quickly gave up using it - same applies to the people i was chatting with.

actually 'talking' to someone 'properly' certainly requires a great deal more effort than typing. you have to participate correctly in the conversation with all of the rules that come with it - trying to avoid embarrassing silences, trying to think of something actually worth saying, etc. the whole process just made me aware of what little is actually worth saying.

using irc or other text based communication allows you to just say what is necessary - it provides you with more time to formulate your reply without the 'listener' becoming bored by your long pauses - pauses of silence that would be deemed uncomfortable in a spoken conversation.

rather than making it easy for a few people and generally more difficult for the others how about just making it difficult for everyone - say, have the gathering in an inflatable boat somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic.

instead of having a get together - which is going to be a bit exclusive as many of us don't have access to a private jet plane - how about you/we have a 'webcam get together'.

this might be more in the spirit of DC - it requires the use of a computer.

i'm sure there is a challenge involved in getting it to work well - and i don't think we've had any reviews or discussion of webcam apps on the site yet(?)

those of us that are shy could wear a disguise or point the camera in a direction that is more suitable.

for all you cat people around here you might find this of interest/amusement...

not heard anything by the Sparks for a while. have a look at the link app mentioned http://music.aol.co.uk/videos and check out the Sparks - Dick Around video.

the cat reference is kind of irrelevant, i know. anyway, i'm pleased to see the Sparks doing something that sounds quite good when you get past the gimmick factor.
