It's replaced by an annoying splash telling you that you're using a registered copy. Only way to close it is to click on the "x" in the upper right hand corner. It would be *almost* bearable if clicking or double-clicking on the splash would close it... This is not the case. I should contact the developer about this...

I take it back. I CAN hear a difference between DFX and Breakaway... Breakaway is "brighter" and has more punch.

I wonder if there's any chance of a DC discount on this... I can't really hear much of a difference between this and DFX 8.x, but I am impressed with the fact that it will process ANY sound, not just WinAMP, WMP, etc.

That's a WHOLE lot faster than I can scan with my ancient HP flatbed - I'm guessing, but I doubt I can do more than 3 sheets a mintue max.

I recently checked out the S300 and S500 and the S500 is rated at exactly double the speed of the S300 (if I recall correctly, the S500 is rated at 36 sheets per minute when scanning doublesided - ie 18 doublesided sheets of paper per minute). That's a WHOLE lot faster than I can scan with my ancient HP flatbed - I'm guessing, but I doubt I can do more than 3 sheets a mintue max.

The link reminds me of a terrible sunburn that I got while in South Korea (on Cheju-do or Cheju Island) in about 1997. My girlfriend at the time (and now wife) rubbed chilled soju (Korean vodka) all over me and then covered me in cucumber slices. Sheer heaven!

Multi-directory views are a nice extra for occasional use.  Normally, I don't think I can keep track of more than two directories at a time

Agreed - I actually find the feature a bit bothersome as implemented in FileQuest because if you're not paying attention you wind up with new panes opening everytime you click to change the location you are viewing. Having said that, very occasionally I have found having more than two panes open at once useful - most of the time I am very happy with SP or DP

Top right corner. Click on the magifying glass and you have a - wait for it - magnifying glass to move around the screen; click again when you are doing it and it switches off.

There are two shareware file managers that feature multi-directory views that I am aware of: FileQuest (up to 4) and FileBoss 1.7 (I have 7 directories open at the moment). FileBoss 2, which was just released, does this as well but surprisingly neither as simply nor as user-friendly. In fairness they've added in grouped tabs...

I had Q-Dir installed for a bit and played with it a bit. Dormouse, what is the magnifier feature you refer to? I didn't see it/play with it when I had Q-Dir installed...

PS took delivery yesterday of a replacement 14.1" LCD for my 8 year old Compaq notebook running Win2k. Disassembly, installation, re-assembly went without a hitch and I now have a functioning Win2k machine again. I also, courtesy of the other notebook going pearshaped, have a perfectly good 120 GB 5400 rpm drive that I will be installing soon... Ah, the good life!
