+1 for separate limits. I used to use 9 results and had to change to 20 results after dir search came up. I think this option would solve that problem.

Actually, i hadn't thought of that, Mandork, but the idea of having the program use the links of the shortcuts to determine where to place the icons is a good idea.
I think that'll have to be another option of this program ;)

I think that the best method was the one chosen by bruce eckel for "thinking in C++". It's just a HTML document.
It's good because a book is supposed to be read, as webpages, and after all, i already have opera running all day, so, no more apps are needed for that. One problem is that if the page is too big, poor opera crashes (ie doesn't, though), and there's no way to make bookmarks (to specific parts of the webpage) or to underline stuff. Still, i think it's better than chm and pdf because the search is fantastic and, as long as you have a good browser, the letters are perfect for reading.
Another advantage is that it only takes a mouse gesture to switch between reading the book and checking new posts at DC ;)

« Last post by jgpaiva on February 07, 2007, 03:12 PM »
i've a 24" monitor and gridmove works fine - so it's not the size of the monitor that is the problem. might be that something else you've got running is conflicting with it?
:D I solved it with oneword through pm, not to flood this thread. It was just a mis-interpretation of how the edge drag method works.
Yeah, i know i suck at describing stuff ;)

I agree. If miranda had support for custom emoticons, i'd switch right away. Until then, i'm stuck with msnmsgr taking 1/4th of my ram :'(

Living Room / Re: Accesspoint and/or router - help!
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 05, 2007, 10:06 AM »
If you already have the modem/router, i suppose the right option would be to buy a wireless access point, which would complement what you already own and would spare you some money.
I also notice that recently (at least over here), ISPs are already distributing modem/router configuration, which means that if you switch isp, you'd maintain the current config.

As for what you mentioned about making the modem play dumb, i think there's something called DMZ (de-militarized zone, or something) which allows you to connect another router and give it that IP, so that only the other router will do NAT. I know my linksys router has that, but i'm not sure how it works because i've never used.

For a 50 sqr meter appartment, you shouldn't have any trouble with signal, even my old linksys router (which sucks, BTW), can handle my 100sqr meter appartment with VERY thick walls (old building).

I can't help you with the rest, but have some advice about this:
It would be even nicer if I could find a device that has routing, too - but then my requirements probably become too demanding: I need PPPoA support (which only seems to be available for a few devices?) and a built-in modem, since my current solution is a combined router/modem (ZyXel prestige 650) - and I want as few devices as possible.
I do understand the "as few devices as possible" idea. But having a router that includes a modem might not be the best of ideas. I say this because, at least here, there are about 3 different systems being used and 2 more coming in the future. If you have a router like that, you are sort of tied up to one internet connection device (i suppose you're referring to ADSL, right?). I prefer to have them separated, so that i won't have to buy a new router if i switch ISP.

Is there a way to use middle click just on title bars or borders and not anywhere in the window? I use the middle mouse button in web browsers to scroll sometimes and GridMove is taking over.
Yes, that's planned for the next version, it has already been requested ;)

I don't see the ""browse" option on the templates menu." in GridMove V1.19.26.
It's not there anymore, but don't worry, you can just put the grids in the /grids folder and they will be loaded in that menu.

Is there a way to cancel drop zone mode without the escape key? Maybe some way to use the right button to cancel?
Currently, the right-button cycles to the next grid, thus there's no way to acomplish that. As you mentioned, though, you can just drop the window in an area where there's no grid. Almost all grids have such areas, usually on the taskbar.

I doubleclick a title bar to maximize a window. Can we change MButton Drag to MButton Doubleclick, so drop zone mode will start after a double middle click? Then drop a window using left click or middle click?
I think that would be too hard to use. I'll include the middle button on taskbar, and it should solve this problem ;)

Thanks!
You're welcome ;)

Heh, sweet. I like a good game of minesweeper every now and then, but it drives me crazy when I have to randomly click a square because there's no way to tell if there's a mine there or not... Thanks!

General Software Discussion / Minesweeper cheats!
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 04, 2007, 07:05 PM »
Ok.. Everybody has already played Minesweeper, right?
It's been in Windows since 3.1 and i bet everybody has had a go at it.
It's a very basic game, and sometimes is based in luck. Well... Not anymore!

-After starting the game, type xyzzy and press Shift and Enter at the same time.
-Move the mouse over the playing area and keep your eye on the upper left corner of the Windows desktop.
-A white pixel will appear when the mouse pointer is over a safe square, and turn dark when the mouse is over a mine.

I think that's the weirdest cheats i've ever seen, still, it does work, and i'd love to talk to the man who had the idea of including this on the program!  ;D ;D

Taken from: http://www.helpero.com/top/Helpero This site actually looks pretty good too.

This looks to me like (almost) reinventing the well.
Usually, software is descripted by PAD files.
A PAD file is formated in XML and i'm almost sure that there must be tons of parsers out there. So, it'd be the way that'd make more sense for programmers to submit information about their programs to your site, i suppose.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is there any way to abort a reboot?
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 02, 2007, 07:40 PM »
Actually, app, that's not the case.
I don't mean apps that make the system hang and that windows has to terminate the processes to shutdown. The app i'm referring is indeed minimized to the tray and when i shutdown the system with it running, the app can somehow cancel the shutdown and asks me if i want to quit. If i press "yes", it exits but still, the computer doesn't shutdown and acts as normal, since the shutdown order was canceled. I have to give the shutdown order again. (btw, this is a vodafone mobile connect card software, controls those things that allow you to have internet connection on the move).
I never understood exactly how they can do this. It could be the solution to the problem mentioned above, though.

Sorry for the late responses, but i was on exams until today. I'm now on vacations, which means i finally have free time :D

makron: i think your idea for gridcreator is good. Although it creates just simple grids, it's way easier to use. I think i'll do just that.

john_markman: I think that your idea is good, adding commands for vertical maximize and horizontal maximize makes sense to me. I'll do that.

[blah]
I noticed i was going to say exactly what f0dder said.
I agree, no way to stop shutdown after it has started, you can only stop that timer before shutdown.
If you run the command that cthorpe mentioned, you get a "can't launch 'shutdown' because the workstation is shuting down". Also, if you have a computer that is fast enough, it'll probably shutdown before you can do something.

On the other hand, i've seen a bunch of programs that can stop windows shutdown (a feature that i find MOST anoying). This means that processes that are already running can stop the shutdown. Anyone has any idea on how to do it?
