skrommel, let me know your ideas on what you'd like set up.
I can set up a special forum section in your area for it, or we can make a wiki for it, or whatever you like.

I was also going to recommend you check into a wiki.

After checking out a bunch of wikis for very lightweight small group (2 people in this case) wiki for collaborating, and fell in love with DokuWiki, mainly for its simplicity and easy password protection:

http://www.splitbrai...rg/projects/dokuwiki

Note that this does *NOT* fulfill your request for threaded discussions.  It more like version controled page editing.

For the record I find Joel to be an excellent writer who produces regularly insightfull and thought provoking essay (he is also frequently very annoyingly self-promoting to the point of being painful to read).

Ok boys and girls gather round for I am going to blow your mind with my 3 step process that is guaranteed to get you TONS of great press in the technology blogs and financial journals.  Your company will become the talk of the town and you will soon become rich beyond your wildest dreams.

Now why am I giving away this amazing secret simple strategy when I could make millions from selling it? Well there is a catch.  I'm going to leave off one little mystery of the technique.  To get the missing element you have to mail me $999 in cash.  It's only a small sum compared to the increase in revenue your business will generate.

Ok here is my Web 2.0 Technology Strategy:
  • 1. Find a friend with another internet company.
  • 2. Send out a press release trumpeting the huge news that one of the companies has suddenly acquired the other !! OMG YES!
  • 3. Repea*

I know you are thinking to yourself that is the most amazing strategy I have ever heard and i've just blown your mind.  It is as good as that and better.  My technique is being used internationally all over the globe with great success.  Just open your browser to any high-tech news site and you will see my clients using this strategy like mad.  It costs you nothing and is 100% guaranteed to make you fistfulls of money!

I know you are thinking to yourself "But this is too good to be true!!!! Don't I have to improve my product? Or create new features? Or hire new employees?"  NO, NO, and NO!!! That's the magic!

And the key is the hidden step #3.  If you act now during this introductory period, with only one payment of $999 (not including shipping and handling), i will reveal to you the full details of step 3.  Hurry I only have 5,000,000 copies left!

A response article by Scott Berkun:

In defense of simplicity
Recently two notable design advocates, Don Norman and Joel Spolsky, challenged the value of simplicity in design, and I’m here to offer a late defense.
...
It’s easy to confuse success with quality, and both articles discount our secret inability to make satisfying choices. We are attracted to things with more features, that cost less, or come in larger quantities, despite our inner suspicions that we’re likely to complain about those purchases soon after. We date people, eat food, take jobs and buy products for superficial, misguided reasons all the time. We’re easily seduced, and every marketer knows we always have been and always will be.

But we shouldn’t confuse the success of feature-laden crap as a signal for the irrelevance of simplicity any more than the success of Rocky IV and Burger King signaled the irrelevance of good film-making or fine dining. It just means there are gaps between what we need, what we want, and why we buy, and that the masses are by definition less discriminating than the niches of people with refined tastes for a particular thing.

A long an interesting read with some nice observations and some sharp elbows  ;)

Fortune Favors Big Turds
Screw The Money, This Is My Art

Donald Norman and Joel Spolsky both had their say on how you can’t sell simple software. It’s my turn to say they’re wrong because they adopt an obnoxiously true-or-false stance based on horrible examples. The situation they’re discussing is too complex to fit into a single blog post and I’m not gonna try to convince you that complexity or simplicity is better. I believe you can do both simultaneously.

I’ll also explain why their observation actually does apply in open source software, but from a completely different perspective. See, I’m gonna lure you in by ranting about Joel and how he uses his piece of shit Wasabi to build a single nasty ass bug tracking product, and then waylay you with what I think.

I can definitely see classifying these are too complex in the sense that he just wants to be able to go to a site and create a super simple forum in a minute by filling out some quick details, which his friends can really quickly join, without having to worry about tons of settings.

Surely there are sites like this so let's hear some more suggestions.

« Last post by mouser on January 10, 2007, 03:25 AM »
My time spent on computer:
  • Programming
  • Spending far too much time reading political blogs and watching c-span.
  • Working on DC website

What I should be spending more time on:
  • Writing academic papers

« Last post by mouser on January 10, 2007, 02:31 AM »
Yesterday I uninstalled all mouse and keyboard drivers (by logitech and microsoft, respectively), and after 24 hours am happy to say that the problems are gone.  This confirms that the problem was caused by either one of these drivers OR the interaction between them.

In the next couple of days i will experiment to try to figure out if i can get the drivers working again to enable some of the advanced features of my keyboard and mouse, without reintroducing the problem.  i will report progress.

i've never used them, but im quite curious as well :)
I suspect they are a way to file your personal messages away so you can find certain types later..

The place to look (and also look for new modificiations you'd like us to install here) is:
http://www.simplemachines.org

Search their forum or docs for answers (and let us know what you find!).

ps. Modifications available are in the Download section.

Great find

Just to add a little to the description - this site is all about "Print-and-Play" games:

What is a print-and-play game? A print-and-play game is a game that can be printed out on your computer onto card stock and then played. It also includes games that can easily be made with common game equipment, such as dice, playing cards, pawns, checkers, etc. Here you'll find links to websites that offer such games. You can view the listing of free games by going to the Canonical List of Free Print-and-Play Games or by choosing one of the categories from the column on your left.

The unparalleled, amazing, epic "Within A Deep Forest" platform game has been discussed on DonationCoder.com Forum before (see https://www.donation...index.php?topic=4272).

Now comes word (thanks Eóin) of a new game, Knytt!

For more info on the other games created by Nifflas:

I noticed a little bug: In the desert town with the gambling place, there is a building next to it with a big blue "i" which I presume stands for information. When I go in that building it takes me into the casino!

yep, I  hit that bug too.

Thanks for mentioning my LaunchBar Commander Nod5

I was going to recommend exactly what lanux128 said.  And just a reminder, in addition to being a great program, True LaunchBar is very reasonably priced as is, but as a supporting member Nod5, you can take advantage of the generous discount the TLB author made available for our members (see normal discount area).
