It will be in the next version.

I've always liked PaperPort, and i like NigelH's idea of buying an older version to save some money, since i'm not sure the new features are all that needed.

BrotherS and/or others have suggested we set up a google co-op thing.
Can someone fill me in on this a bit more - what are our options, etc.
I searched for some stuff and saw that a lot of the forum posts dont seem to be indexed..

Living Room / Re: can a file or folder structure make a pc crash at random?
« Last post by mouser on January 13, 2007, 04:09 PM »
it's not that you have data on your hd that is evil and is causing the blue screen, BUT:

1) hardware problems (like with memory chips) can cause these kinds of crazy behaviors.
2) if it's always the same file - then it could be something like an antivirus bug trying to scan a file.
3) it could always be the vd burning software if it only happens with that.

I have learned to take very seriously the possibility of hardware errors when encountering hard-to-pin-down reboots like this.  It's one of the reasons that it's becoming more and more useful to have a 2nd pc around to test stuff and move hds, etc.  Condsider getting yourself a cheap secondary pc if you don't have one yet.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: How to recover a lost configuration
« Last post by mouser on January 13, 2007, 03:54 PM »
LBC makes extensive backups automatically as well - it is very very highly likely that your configuration file is just sitting in that directory.  (I mean i really went overboard making sure the program keeps good backups automatically and also is very careful about saving good versions before overwriting older versions).

SO, first step: copy or zip up your entire LaunchBar Commander directory, just in case.

Now,
When you get this message:
"There are no LaunchBars/Docks or Tray Menus currently visible in the configuration file"
It doesnt meant your configuration file is gone, just that it's not actually "loaded"
(because LBC lets you have multiple launchbar files open at the same time - this is a confusing issue and i may try to improve this a bit so it's less scary!).

So just go to preferences, and go to the menu File -> Open File.
Now if you remember what you named your configuration file, just open it.
If you don't, just try sorting by date.

You will be loading a .mcf file.  The DEFAULT name of the default launchbar is MyLaunchBar.mcf, so that will be the name if you didn't reload it.

You might see a bunch of backup files as well - that's why i suggest you might sort by date.

Let us know how it works out for you!
And feel free to contact me by email if you need more help ([email protected])

Developer's Corner / Re: SkyIDE - Latest Release Information
« Last post by mouser on January 13, 2007, 03:18 AM »
i think the answer to this should be fairly straightforward.  like dev-c++ and relo and others,
there should be no need to detect path of project, etc.

The user should be able to configure the location of the gcc exe and build tools bin directory they want to use for the compiler.

If you want to compile with mingw32, you specify the path to that gcc.exe in the compiler settings.
If you want to compile with cygwin, you specify the path to that gcc.exe in the compiler settings.

Nothing more, nothing less.  as far as i can imagine.

I was just following links and got to this long post on making chocolate chip cookies:

And it reminded me of the thing that is so remarkable in this world, which is that no matter what concept you can imagine, someone somewhere is experimenting, studying, documenting, and discovering new things about it.

We can't spend all of our time going deep into the mysteries of every idea and object we interact with daily.  But it's nice to occasionally take a trip a little deeper into something then you are used to.

Here's some of the text from that chocolate chip cookie article:

But there are important things to remember about butter vs margarine. Butter melts differently. Butter has different ratios of fats. Butter is a different fat altogether than margarine. Don't think you can go swapping it out willy-nilly; you will not have the same results. I'm not saying you won't like the results. But I am saying that I probably won't.

I used bread flour. You see, I like chewy cookies. I don't like thin and crispy. I don't like light and fluffy. I like chewy. Bread flour has a higher protein content, and the possibility to develop more gluten. It's important to remember that it doesn't actually contain gluten, but it does contain more of the proteins that create gluten. In order for gluten to form, it needs moisture and it has to be worked. Note: fat is not the same thing as moisture. In fact, fat shortens the gluten strands, whereas actual moisture helps them develop. I also upped the ante on baking soda. This was to help the cookies spread more slowly. This is not a concept that I fully understand, nor think worked. I also used dark brown sugar, because I like the deeper flavor that it offers.

Yes i think that's part of it.  Just keep in mind i'm not promising that gri is not insane.  There are a whole bunch of strange things going on at grivitations.  But i am saying there are interesting things to discover.

What you say about these devices not letting you copy files onto them normally can be so frustrating.. and sometimes it's all done in the name of making things more "foolproof".

i have a little samsung usb mp3 player.  Try to move some files onto it and it pops up what im sure the designers worked hard to implement, a dialog saying the files are not compatible music files and so won't be copied.  JUST DO WHAT I SAY AND STOP TRYING TO BE SO D*AMN SMART!!

You can learn more about gri's weird world of grivitiniks, grivitoutiks, windings here:
http://gri.megasmf.c...x.php?topic=69.msg93

I don't pretend to understand it all. I view it like traveling to another planet and trying to learn the language.

However I will report a couple of tidbits i have learned.

Here is the basic theory of grivitiniks, grivitoutiks which you see in gri's posts.
I think the basic motivation comes from communications involving MULTIPLE forums.

Gri talks about the problem that occurs when a user makes a post on one forum thread, linking to a post on another thread (if you dig deeper into his forum there are much more complex reasons why this happens a lot there).

Ok so say gri makes a post here above on this thread, pointing to a post in his forum.

He uses this symbol (grivitoutik):
<<
to indiccate that to discuss this issue more, you should do it on the LINKED site (forum), not in the current thread.

If he were posting a link and wanting us to discuss it here, he would use a (grivitinik) >>.

That's just a flavor of what's going on.

>Windings< are about having people subscribe to both threads on both forums so it doesn't matter any more where you post.  But i'm not sure completely how they work.  There are more complicated rules to on the grivitation forum but i don' understand them all yet.

From reading a bit on grivitation i feel almost like it was created after some cosmological signularity event involving gri getting banned from smf..  my working theory is that that event caused an entire new system of grivitation to be created.

The following thread MIGHT be a clue as to the origins but i am not sure.
{

i agree with all of the targets of your rage :)
Why can't they settle on some standard easily rechargeable battery sizes.. why do we have to do this dance with 1000 dif proprietary batteries.  this idea of non-replaceable batteries seems outrageous to me, and it's the kind of stuff apple just loves to wallow in; it's one of the reasons i never trust apple.

i hope we soon get to a point where these players dont use internal storage, and can all standardize on a nice memory card type thing that can hold a few hundred gigabytes.  then you could just insert your music collection into a tiny little thumbnail and go jogging, or into a larger video-enabled thing for  a long trip.

In all seriousness, i decided to study a bit about gri's world, and you might be surprised to know that there is some logic too it.  In fact I suspected there was some method to the madness for quite some time - and i had one of those rare moments of happiness that one gets when one is willing to take a walk through alice's looking glass where few are willing to venture, only to discover there are some new laws and theories to enjoy.
