Living Room / Re: In search of ... external video support

Would this be of help?

And as it doesn't support a proper docking station, maybe a USB dock like this Targus (as offered by Dell) with an extra DVI port could help?
Most likely the performance is not up to par with the expectations or requirements, so the ViDock combined with a multi-monitor card (advice: choose a (mini)DisplayPort model, so a lot of monitors can be connected) could be a better solution.

OTOH, if you need much better graphics power then available in a laptop, you could have bought a more than decent desktop that allows for multiple graphics adapters with multi-monitor capabilities .

Did we miss something important?
The only important missing feature missing so far, after only looking at the website :-[, is a feature comparison between the Free and the Pro version. And the discount offer on the Order page expired some 4 weeks ago, so probably isn't of use any longer...

For the rest it looks like a useful tool, that might finally induce me to write some proper walk-troughs of some of my tools...

cause the mouse cursor to jump to the touchscreen button location

I didn't get that far into it, so I don't have any solution for that built in. I'll see if I can anticipate a fix for that 8)

I'm pleased to see that WinButton is now 1.0.0.0
It's WinButtonEdit, the configuration editor for WinButtons, that has gone the 1.0 release :-[, WinButtons is already on v3.3.2

I tried to do something for Android devices acting as the controller-device by using/modifying PRemoteDroid, but I couldn't get it to work (no WiFi - dev-PC connection available, and USB also doesn't work for me) and the project seems to be abandoned by it's developer(s) :(

It's amazing - maybe this is all a dream.

Did you forget to break some mirrors, recently, so finally some luck is heading your way? ;D ;D ;D

...it's very good indeed.
Glad it worked out so good 8)

I'm not sure what the type of screen is, maybe I can find out from the model number. To me, it looks like it's slightly inferior to the main HP ZR30W screen (s-ips) but a whole lot better than the bog standard screen it replaces.
The docs on the Dell site talk about TFT Active Matrix ('Thin Film Transistor'), and AFAIR that's the old original name for an IPS panel, so assuming s-IPS meaning 'Super-IPS', the HP is expected to be a bit better, but the Dell should indeed be a whole lot better than any TN panel and most VA panels.

Today I saw an announcement from Iiyama on a 24" and 27" full-hd (1920x1080) monitor that support portrait mode, and by using VA panels, claim a viewing angle of 178 degrees. The specs seem to be available from the Japanese site only, and I found this link to a Japanese language pdf

You could have a look at the Dell UltraSharp 2007FP model, 1600x1200, IPS, pivot-able and a dot-pitch close to a 30" monitor (0.255 mm vs. 0.25 mm)

if (exist == true)
Why do you code double comparisons? 'exist' is a boolean already, so it's either true or false, writing 'if (exist)' is sufficient.

Living Room / Re: Patent Wars: Apple Hits Samsung in EU
« Last post by Ath on August 19, 2011, 06:35 AM »
The restriction has already been resized to Germany-only (from EU without the Netherlands where a separate lawsuit has been filed), as the German judge decided he might not have jurisdiction across all of Europe. IMHO he should be dismissed, as that was rather obvious before enforcing his ruling and it now looks like he's been favoring Apple in some way.
my opinion
And with that probably the entire lawsuit, but that might be too political.

Hmm, I think I'll wait until Stone 2 is released (they never enable all the features on the first release).

But Stone 1 has been out there for quite some time already, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Stone 2 :tellme:
It's feature set is already rock-solid 8)

I didn't notice any changes at all.
Just an occasional plug-in no longer working because of the version checks built in. Same as from FF4 to FF5. But the (plug-in)updates are usually quick and painless.

Can't see much improvement going from FF5 to FF6 either.

so I want to know where you're shopping!
It's at the local "Media Markt" (these 3 monitors pages, sorry, all in Dutch, but the prices and specs you can prolly extract from there)
I've been talking about 22"/23" monitors mostly, but they have a few bargains on 24" and 27" as well.

Living Room / Re: WinXP: monitor USB port disconnects when computer is locked
« Last post by Ath on August 16, 2011, 03:17 AM »
How is the monitor reacting to the system going into low-power/standby state? My system with DisplayPort connected monitors, switches screen-resolution (to 800x600 from 1920x1200) when the monitor is turned off, with Windows in a Locked state. Didn't test with USB devices yet, but it could be that a stand-by state of the monitors disconnects the USB ports also (the off-state certainly does).
Try connecting your USB devices directly (or using a USB-hub if you need extra ports) to the system, and see if that improves the matter.

The difference between 100 and 180 euro isn't all that small, though, IMO
Correct, but the gross of the 22" monitors is between 130 and 160 Euro, the low-life 100 E model I would never buy myself, not even to give away, and the 180 E models are a bit more shiny than the 160 Euro models.

Same price?  Where?  I've been looking for a monitor (looking at 24" or 27") and it seems that the big difference in the price points of the lower end vs the upper end is resolution...

Well, the 22" and 23" monitors offered closeby (next big city that is, 8 km away) in the bigger retail shop, are all between 100 and 180 Euro, where the 100 Euro one is 1680x1050 and only has VGA input, but the 180 Euro model has 1920x1080 and DVI or HDMI interface also. There's a choice in brands like LG, Samsung and Philips.
A 24" is available from around 200 Euro, and has DVI interface, and a 27" full HD can be had for 250 Euro, and comes with DVI as well. But this is all on special offer for this week :tellme:

Hm, you might have liked a 22" full-hd resolution (1920x1080) for even more screen real-estate better then 1680x1050, and the price shouldn't be a problem, as most of them have even the same price

Maybe something like this could be an extension to Screenshot Captor?

No, that would add bloat to something that's in a total different league.
Should be added to a WinSpy/WinInfo-like tool, IMHO

The WinSCP script isn't that had to grasp, IMHO, and if you can do it by hand, who (c/w)ould stop you doing it mechanically?
