N.A.N.Y. 2011 / NANY 2011: ContactFX -- Unfinished / Withdrawn / ?
« Last post by Perry Mowbray on December 30, 2010, 07:57 PM »
 :-[  What is it with NANY and AddressBooks? ContactFX will not get past 2.0 for NANY 2011... which raises the question: Should it be Withdrawn or Unfinished or just plain left as a Pledge? I'll keep working on it ('cos I love it  ;) )...

Apologies to all those expecting something tonight... I did get some more time not long ago and hoping that I could get a reduced version done, but it was too much rush and too many other competing pressures...  was hopefully something more not too far in the future.

Wow: will the name remain "MyHelp"??

I also adjusted your title 2010 > 2011  ;)

All done!

I like comments like this - at some point I hope that NANY apps will appear that are results of a lot more collaboration where maybe miva2 and some others will get together and create a masterpiece  :Thmbsup:

Yes, that's been one of my dreams for NANY for a couple of years now...

I've been kludging something together for this, and since I've spent a little time on it I figured I'd pledge.

Damn me! I was about to pledge for this too!
Is it against the rules if I pledge my version too? Because I was working on it for the last 2-3 days and it's very close to be finished.

I don't see why not? It's bound to be implemented differently... and gives us more choice (where would we be if there were only one text editor?)...

Incidentally, I guess Pledging early is a good way of indicating your intentions  ;)

N.A.N.Y. 2011 / Re: NANY 2011 :: Official Update Thread
« Last post by Perry Mowbray on December 21, 2010, 05:08 AM »
As we rush toward the New Year, the temperature in the NANY Event continues to increase along with the numbers!

It's been wonderful to see the Pledges increasing over the course of the Event: 34 Pledges to date! We also had 22 Teasers posted so that our users could play and give feedback... and over the last couple of months the Pledges have steadily been converted to 12 Releases!

But there's still more time... so keep your eyes peeled for more additions!

NANY Numbers - 2010_12_21.png

Thanks to timns and his wonderful creativity we also have a great summary of our experiences of NANY as we move toward the New Year via Christmas...

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through my browser,
not a creature was stirring - except of course, mouser;

Questions were typed in the forums with care,
in the hope that some answers soon would be there;

Donation Coders were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of software danced in their heads;

cranioscopical had just logged back on,
and was all settled down for a long Winter's pun;

When out in the forum there arose such a thread!
We all logged back on to see what was said;

Away to my firefox I ran in a dash,
tore open my tabs and updated my flash;

And what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but some amazing new apps, in time for New Year;

A fun competition to show your ability:
create a new app, game or utility;

Code it, upload it and throw it into the mix,
and then let everyone find the bugs to be fixed

No offense meant, in fact let me be clear:
I am of course referring to my own entry here ;)

But even right now, as the deadline is nearing:
34 apps and they are still appearing!

This is why DC is my number one:
community, spirit, software and fun;

And so I exclaim, to all who can hear:
this NANY is great, and just wait till NEXT year!

Now what ? When do I send the link of the website and the details of the application ? Do I have to send it on the night of 31 December 2010 ? Also adding a message in this thread will do or I need to post somewhere else ? Please guide.

If you Modify your Original Post you can add the NANY Template (using the "Add Preset Text.." dropdown):
Screenshot - 18_12_2010 , 8_06_23 PM.png
Just fill in the appropriate details as required. Check other Entries to see what other people have done, and check the instructions on NANY 2011 :: Announcement thread.

You can add details, or more details, of your application at any time, you can also add "Teaser" versions for people to try before the final release if you like.

If your application is finished you can add it to the Original Post at any time before December 31 (The title of the Thread should reflect what stage your Entry is at: Pledge -> Teaser -> Release.

I simply do not like lying. I don't mind people making mistakes, but I hate being told one thing when in fact it's something different -- especially when it's in the public sphere.

Transparency helps stop that.

I liked that quote: "information is the currency of democracy"; which of course explains why the spin doctor is the most important person in your arsenal. Maybe it also explains what's gone wrong with democracy?

Nothing here that you can use: NANY 2011 :: Entry Ideas & Requests??

Now that I've officially released this app, people should only use the download link provided in my original post above.  Thanks!

This does sound terrific!

I invariably DTP something up as I unfortunately often use non-standard sizes so print to A3 (what we have at work) and slice up on the guillotine (but that's probably not on your feature list...)

Living Room / Re: Fast Food: Ads vs. Reality
« Last post by Perry Mowbray on December 09, 2010, 07:01 AM »
In many ways there is a similarity between the photographic talents of fast food advertisers and adjective creators of a la carte menu writers  ;D

...but I agree: how can it be legal? Surely the description of the goods, even if photographic advertising, forms part of the contract of sale? Next time I'm in a FF store (not that often) I think I'll compare and object  :D

Thanks for sharing  :Thmbsup:

Can I encourage you to copy some of the text and graphics from the help file into your OP? That will make it much more user friendly  :Thmbsup:

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR Plugin: TimeZone [Update version 1.4.2]
« Last post by Perry Mowbray on December 08, 2010, 05:40 PM »

Up/Down is used to move the item up or down in the list. You double click to edit, then you can Up & Down to your heart's delight... at least that's what I can do here?? Is that not working for you?

No, not really. I can move the bottom-most item up just one step, then it gets 'stuck'

Other items seem to be movable, but I can never get anything to the top slot, nor move the top one down.

No biggie - I have just edited the ini file instead  :Thmbsup:

That's cheating!!  ;)

Can you edit the top row? Or is it just the Up/Down not working (that doesn't make sense) Maybe it's AHK's layout problems???

Yes it's working now. Just one minor thingie:

Options screen is squashed:  (see attachment in previous post)
(Although the tips tell me what the items are, so it's perfectly usable)

Yes, AHK seems to have some issues with it's window display on newer OS's (I think, otherwise I'm open to suggestions). Next edit I'll slide it down a little more...

Really nice utility.

EDIT: the Up/Down buttons don't seem to work properly
