@krksoft - hello to you - thanks for your input here.
I've downloaded/installed your program and have trying to figure out to get the results exactly the way I like.

a. name of parent folder, without... further listing of the name of any subfolders
b. total size of that folder (incl the size of subfolders)

In Directory Opus, I select all folders (ctrl-a), click tools/print, paste into Excel.

The listings look like this.

=
OpusFolderPrint-Pasted into Excel-02092013 080641.png
=

Directory List Pro - by default seems to add the subfoldernames, e.g.
J:\TestFolders\TestFolder-number-001\some folder

=

I have been 'playing' with Directory List Pro just for a very short while, so bear with me that I have not found the solution that may indeed be available.

- I cud untag all subfolders one by one..
- indeed the \subfolder names are not listed
- but the total size is not correct
at least, as far as I can see, but I might be missing an option here or there :-)

Oh, by the way, a small note:
Windows Explorer does not show any created/modified/last accessed dates of files prior 1980.
Don't ask me why, but is a fact.

So when  folders contain files with dates prior 1980 the folder can not be 're-dated'.
The date field will be blanked.
No problem when using Opus.

I think there is no solution for this.
This just for your info.

hi mouser

//
2.20.01 Beta - Aug 26, 2013
...
[Improvement] Installer now offers to install desktop icon.
//

You also have a .ico file for the portable version?

=

With me the desktop button looks like there is no ico or program attached.

When selecting 'Properties' the right picture is displayed though.
When I wish to add and icon to the desktop link, and selecting other icon,
the CHS picture/ico does stick, i.e. nothing changes.

If you donot of have separate .ico  - forget it, nothing special, it's only 'a nice to have'  :)

keep up the good work!

Ahum...

Right! thanks!
Didn't think of this solution.

hi 4wd - question: I am not sure how recursive works. Cud you give me a hint?
when is not greyed out?
283
4wd, thanks a lot!

As a kind of recap for myself and possible other users who, like me, may not be familiar with 'User Defined Commands'

After double-clicking SetFolDateFM.exe, personally, I drag the Adjust_Timestamp.ouc from desktop to my Directory Opus program folder

Contextmenu
1. Click on: Settings (A) select Customize Toolbars (B)  select tab Commands (C)

2. Click on: File (D) select: Import User Command (E)

3. Go to and Open Adjust_Timestamp.ouc – click Open (F)

4. Note under User-defined Commands "Adjust_Timestamp" has been added (G)

=
SetFolDate-STEP1-4-06092013 090819.png
=

5. Click on: Settings, (5A)  select: File Types (5B)

6. Click on:
(NONE) All folders (6A),
click on Edit (6B)
select tab Context Menu (6C)
click on "New…" (6D)

SetFolDate-STEP5-6-06092013 094207.png

7. Enter title: Adjust Timestamp (A),
click on Drop down menu & select "Run an Opus function (not supported in Explorer), (B)
click on Commands and select Adjust Timestamp (C)
click on "OK" (D)
=
SetFolDate-STEP7-06092013 090819.png
=

8. Click "OK"

=

9. Note a new context menu has been added, click on "OK"  - next window click on "Close"

10. Note the new Adjust Timestamp entry.

=

=

2) Adding a toolbarbutton to Directory Opus

1. Click on "Settings" , select "Customize Toolbars"
2. "Rightclick" anywhere on the "toolbar", select "Insert New" and "New Button"
3. "Rightclick" on the "button", select "Edit..."
4. Enter Label-text, e.g. Adjust Timestamp, and (Optional) Tip-text,
Browse to "SetFolDateFM.exe"-file and add {ss} {Os} as parameters
     x:\path\SetFolDateFM.exe {ss} {Os}  (x = driveletter and path=path to Setfoldatefm.exe)
   click "OK"
5. Note the button.

Sorry 4wd, is it possible to create an .exe of this? Like the old one?
Think it is rather complicated this way. These are Opus 'areas' I never go into actually.
I have double clicked the .exe and have both .exe and .ouc files in my F:\Directory Opus-folder
Think I should use settings->toolbars, but then what?

Double clicking an .exe (old one) was nice...  :)

Thanks.

Thank you!

I'd like to try it out, but have at some point I fail to get 'Function' when creating a context menu item.

Pls see attachment.
Where you have 'Function'  - I have 'type'

Am doing the same steps.
Cud you give me a hint?

Eh ...
Surely there is a simple solution..

Say I want to copy only a part from the clipboard main window, which may be handy in some cases, e.g. type/serial/phonenumbers,
How to save that to a new clip?

Example: in the below I select the word 'part'  - click on copy to clipboard - then a new entry to show up with just that word, which may then be used for future purposes
a) easier to find in the list
b) no need select it from the original clip where the word might be somehwere in a longer text (no need to search)

TIA

Clipboard Help+Spell / Suggestion: Add [Copy] to 'Merged Clips' window panel
« Last post by dcwul62 on August 31, 2013, 04:09 AM »

Suggestion..  IF(!) at all possible and nót too complicated . . .

Right now, when merging clips, the steps are as follows:
1. select two or more clips
2. click on the 'merge' button
3. click 'OK'
4. Click on 'Copy clip to clipboard' (CHS automatically selects the merged clip)

When adding a [Copy]  button:
1. select two or more clips
2. click on the 'merge' button
3. click on [Copy] button

Now, there are to options:

4.a. Click on 'OK' (the merged clip is saved), or
4.b. Click on 'Cancel'  - the merged clip is nót saved

Comments on 4.b. - if the merged clip is just meant for a, let's say, 'one-off pasting' into whatever other application, then the merged clip is not needed anymore for future use.
Thus it does not make so much sense to store it in the database: lateron it has to be deleted, which I admit, is indeed a piece of cake, but nonetheless often forgotten.

The normal procedure (4.a) remains in place of course.

It's just an idea...

first post updated with link to beta, both portable and installer.
@mouser - about 'merge+MRU based combo box': wonderful! also nice the last setting 'sticks' for the next merge.
as always - t h a n k s!

@skrell, coincidentally... I was think about the subfolders too!  :)

In fact, actually I had drafted a post, but whilst doing so I realised that it would be much too complicated and the script would have to be re-written from scratch.
Something I did not dare to ask.

Below was/is the DRAFT I wrote, but, again, I did not complete/send it, because as said too complex (I guess)

Code: Text [Select]
  1. //
  2. Hi 4WD,
  3.
  4. Just curious to know...
  5.
  6. Maybe a strange question, maybe impossible, I really have no idea...
  7.
  8. Probably impossible/too complicated/whatever, in that case forget it.
  9.
  10. Imagine following situation
  11.
  12. x:\rootfolder  (no files)
  13. x:\rootfolder\subfolder1\                        -> (contains files)
  14. x:\rootfolder\subfolder1\subfolder2\             -> (contains files)
  15. x:\rootfolder\subfolder1\subfolder2\subfolder3\  -> (contains files)
  16.
  17. In the tree (left) you select rootfolder, so in the right window panel subfolder1 shows up.
  18. Now in the right window panel you select subfolder1 and adjust timestamp.
  19. The script should check if a subfolder exists, if so, if another subfolder exists, and so.
  20. //

Ah well, of course, I leave this in hands of  4WD... it is for him to decide.

The portable zip is made so you can overwrite ALL files; the only caveat is that you should not ever edit the ConfigDir_Default.ini; if you want to customize the ConfigDir where stuff is stored, edit ConfigDir.ini.

If you want to move from portable to Installer, or vice versa, the only thing to do is remember to exit CHS first.  Then move your database directory (and ClipboardHelpAndSpell.ini file) from the old to the new.  In installer version the files are under the user documents\DonationCoder folder.

Thanks Mouser!

@IainB / @rjbull

Thank you both for trying to help me.
It is truly appreciated!

The thing is that I want to have :
- foldernames, sizes, dates, paths
- of subfolders only (not files)
- that are on multiple partitions/drives

so, like

X:\basefolder\subfolder1
                     \subfolder2
                     \subfolder3

Y:\basefolder\subfolder-a
                     \subfolder-b
                     \subfolder-c

Z:\basefolder\subfolder-001
                     \subfolder-001
                     \subfolder-001

Using Directory Opus resulting into excel sheet like this:

Regretfully, Directory Opus folderprint, sofar, does not accept multiple folders.

Thanks.
a) Upgrading Portable->Portable: that is clear then.
of course only the rootfolder data, i.e. not overwriting \backup \database folder..   :)

b) Install-version over portable: well, I donot know, I have the portable version entirely on a different partition, in fact in a containerfile (Bestcrypt container)
I first open the container, then I launch the portable version from desktop link.
When installing the 'Install-version' - it should be possible to:

1) select to overwrite the portable version and accept the \database and \backup folder there
or better
2) install in a separate folder and then
   - import database and backup from portable \database \backup
   - import the .ini settings

Hi Mouser,

Suggestion - maybe add just a few lines with regards to installing/upgrading?

a) upgrading portable versions  (e.g. after unzipping the new version, what files to copy over the existing version, so it will adopt previous settings?
Personally, I guess only the ClipboardHelpAndSpell.exe should be replaced?)

b) upgrading from portable to installer version - how to proceed, specifically when the portable is installed on a different drive.
Maybe the installer version will overwrite existing database/.ini files?

I admit... I did not try it, as I donot want to mess things up  :)

Keep up the good work!

You might get some mileage from the Unix "LS" command.  A port of the brute command line version is included GNU utilities for Win32 (UnxUtils.zip), but I don't think it does CSV natively.  However, there's a WinGUI version of LS that does.  It's been mentioned on DC numerous times, including:
A minor problem is that this LS doesn't exit cleanly, it appears to crash on exit!  But it still works well.

Thanks fo the tips. I have looked at these and some other tools.

Actually I think they are designed to list/print the contents, however, not just the folderpaths/foldernames/size/date-time

Sofar I have not found a tool that can do this job - I mean, in an easy/simple few clicks way.

=

298
@4wd - yes, thanks.
Indeed, one can adjust the cell-format/properties.
from default into ####-##=## ##-##-## (for the date)
and for the size in some other format.

I tried it again.

However, frankly speaking, bottom line Opus is much easier, quicker.
SMF launch takes much longer, it requires (a lot of) more clicks for this simple task.
Yes, SMF has much more features, etc.
However, in my case I won't be needing those.
In Excel it requires time for adjustments, bla bla.

So, bottomline, I think, in this case Opus, though not entirely meeting 'my demand' (multi folder print), is still the best solution.

Was hoping for a very simple solution.

How deep are you going into those root folders you mention?  One level?  Two?  All?
@skwire: only 1 level, so:
x:\basefolder\subfolder1
x:\basefolder\subfolder2
x:\basefolder\subfolder3
etc.

like this:

=
Directory Opus-FolderPrint-28082013 072322.png
=
300
Yes, I am using Opus, but there I have to select each drive and copy paste them into Excel, removing headers, bla bla.
Directory Opus (as far as I know) sofar does not support, say F:\Folder1; G:\Folder2; H:\Folder3  etc.  (so it is one-by-one)

@4wd: SMF Yes, I found it, the folder thing.
Regretfully, it converts sizes and dates a bit differently, e.g.
2012.11.07-15:47:48 results in 20121107154748

I think I will stick to Opus and accept the extra copy paste once in a while. Was hoping for a very simple solution.  :)
