You could use Windows built in task scheduler, set it to run the task when idle and stop the task when the computer isn't idle or on mouse movement. Easiest way to do it.  Or, you can use JKDefragGUI which sets this up for you.

If you want to use JKDefrag only: http://www.emro.nl/freeware/
If you want to use it's successor MYDefrag: http://www.wieldraai....nl/MyDefragGUI.html

Both include a ton of options and the ability to schedule a defrag.

Be sure to check out the rest of the freeware available on those sites.  Good stuff.

I use ".mov download tool" which is a wizard driven GUI that grabs the movie for you with a few features.  No need to do anything except click the link.  Free.

General Software Discussion / Maybe Someone Can Help
« Last post by y0himba on August 20, 2009, 10:55 PM »
We have quite a few programmers here, so I am hoping someone can help.  I use a software, "PlayOn" (see link below) to stream Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon VOD to my PS3.  It worked perfectly when I first purchased it. Now, not so much, and MediaMall support (company the creates the product) leaves much to be desired.  They do not seem to have the resources to actually troubleshoot a problem, so I am coming here.

I finally formatted my drive just under 2 days ago, and installed Windows 7 RC, fresh copy, no modifications, tweaks, or anything.  I got all available Windows Updates, and immediately installed PlayOn.  I am still experiencing issues, PlayOn still will not run correctly.  I cannot run it at startup, and it hangs, not responding after a bit, so that I need to restart the computer to shut it down.  It takes me 6 times of stop/start to get it to detect as running.

I am running the latest version of PlayOn downloaded directly from their web site, and I have the latest .NET 3.5 SP1 installed, latest flash.

The MediaMallServer process usually shuts down after a bit, maybe 5 minutes.  When I start the server I hit "Start" in Playon Settings, wait a bit, it says "Not found".  The MediaMallServer process is running in task manager, but it still says "Not Found" and is red.

In order to get it green and "Running" I need to hit Stop, then start, 6 times in a row. I will have 6 MediaMallServer.exe processes running, but Playon settings will finally say it is running and show green.  Eventually the other 5 MediaMallServer instances will close.

At that point it is discoverable, and I can use it for a bit on my PS3, but then it stops responding, and the process cannot be ended by task manager nor any means I have found.  The only way to end the process is to restart the machine.

I have installed the latest .NET 3.5 SP1 since formatting and installing Windows 7 under two days ago.  It has no effect.

I have used procmon to monitor the process, and I can send the resulting file to someone, hopefully someone familiar with .NET.  Tell me what format to save the log as. Also, the software creates it's own log, so maybe that will help.

Thanks so much for any help anyone can give.

I lost my main HDD last night also.  about 1am-ish as I was getting ready to go to bed, BSOD.  I keep all of my documents on a separate physical internal HDD (D:) and when I install Windows I just change the paths to the "My Documents" folder Etc.

I keep an image of Installed and configured Vista on an external USB drive, and do incremental updates every night automatically using Acronis True Image.

I also install Steam and all of the games on that drive, then all I need to do is install the Steam client to the directory and my games are there, configured.

It took about an hour to be back up and running, now I need to buy another HDD. :D

This is especially amusing after the snub that Trillian Astra was given for winning best IM out of the "Hive Five".  I could see it happening though.  Digsby has been sketchy since almost day 1. (IMHO)

We had a dog like that, "Petey".  Jack Russel/Beagle mix.  His favorite thing was to have children chase him around the drive in theater.  He would babysit our daughter.  When she took off running out to the "back 40", Petey would grab her diaper and make her sit down until we caught up.

He was brilliant our Petey, and we loved him to old age.  We cried for over a week, and I am a bit teary just now thinking of him.  His ashes sit on the top shelf of my desk here.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Request/Idea-Winamp Titlebar Control

If the bar would always stay on top without question.  I always seem to have issues with applications that are supposed to always be on top.  I could try it, but that's why I prefer something that just attaches itself to the active window's title bar, right next to the minimize button.

Did that. the results are for a plugin created with Windows NT, 2000, and XP in mind, and older versions of Winamp (2.x?).  The last update was in 2005, most results from Google search are for the 2001 version of the plugin.  I am looking for something modern, compatible and stable uder the latest Winamp version(5.56 July 1, 2009), and Vista/Win7.

I would love to see a lightweight program to control Winamp that shows up in the titlebar of the active window.  Something like Foxytunes, in the titlebar of the active window.

Seems related to Windows Defender.  Unfortunately, that's one of the first things I disable and remove when I format/reinstall.

Beautiful photo.  It's sad when they need to go, but what matters is how happy they were when they were with us.  They look at us as Gods I think, the alpha of the pack.  If we treated them well and with unlimited love, then the life they led was fulfilling.

New family member, another rescue.  Chihuahua-Cairn Terrier mix. VERY intelligent, well mannered(Except he keeps trying to breed my poor Sheena), house trained, and doesn't run away.  About 8 months old.

The kids who owned this little guy decided it would be okay just to leave him behind when they moved.  My neighbor owns rental properties around town and found him.  The previous tenants had been gone a week.

Meet "Salvador".

If you disable both of the Protexis Services PaintShop Pro X won't run (it just reports it is damaged and needs to be reinstalled).
-Carol Haynes (July 18, 2009, 10:32 AM)

I posted the instructions here on the forums a while back. https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=14838.0

If anyone is interested, you CAN disable and remove the unannounced Protexis licensing spyware. THIS IS NOT A HACK AND YOU STILL NEED TO PURCHASE THE PROGRAM AND USE A VALID KEY.  It just removes the unnecessary background service that was shoved into your system without your permission.

    * Close Paint Shop Pro
    * Go into control panel, administrative tools, services sort the services by name, then stop the Protexis V2 service
    * Browse to your Corel directory, then into Paint Shop Pro's root folder ("\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2" where "Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo.exe" resides)and MOVE "PSClient.dll" to another folder, then rename it "PSClient.dll.bak"
    * Browse to your Windows/system32 folder and find "PSIKey.dll" MOVE it to another directory, rename it to "PSIKey.dll.bak"
    * Browse to "\%Program Files%\Common Files\Protexis\License Service" and rename the DLL in that directory to "PSClient.dll"
    * MOVE the newly renamed "PSClient.dll" to your Corel PSP root directory (same place that the PSP executable resides)

Start Paint Shop Pro and be sure it works.  If it does, you can remove the backup files, open a command prompt, use "sc delete PSI_SVC_2" to remove the protexis service, then delete the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Protexis\License Service\" directory.
-y0himba

You can also search Google for "Remove Protexis Licensing".  I believe they have started using a new version of the Protexis garbage, the files may be in different locations (C:\Program Files\Common Files) but the instructions are basically the same.

(P.S. This is my 150th post. Woot!?)

You know, I have never gotten this nag, seriously. I didn't allow the program to check for new versions.  I was more worried about the Protexis service that isn't listed in the EULA and silently installs.

General Review Discussion / Re: Opinions on remote PC control software
« Last post by y0himba on July 14, 2009, 09:43 AM »
I sincerely believe that there are too many free solutions to require paying for a remote control software.  UltraVNC alone is incredible, fast, and efficient, with a lot of options, an easily configured standalone for clients, browser access and more.

Can we add "Teamviewer" to the list?  http://www.teamviewer.com
Teamviewer is also free, fast, and has incredibly efficient scaling of the remote display, and a down-loadable, configurable single executable server.  Free for non-commercial use.
