Living Room / Re: FUNNY~! Drinking Water DOES NOT Hydrate!
« Last post by jgpaiva on November 22, 2011, 04:58 AM »
Unless Coca Cola can make matching health claims on their product, they don't want anyone else to state the obvious. To claim that water can prevent or treat dehydration on the packaging of your product is to say that water is better for you than sugar-loaded soda pop...

And we can't have that, because people will start drinking water instead of soda pop, and Coca Cola will unfairly suffer an economic loss.
Actually, from what I understand, soft drinks makers have already taken advantage of this by saying that "Water is the major component of all soft drinks." :)

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: Pledge: Fentwiss (a simple calculator / converter)

It works great in MacOSX!

Just something I miss: could you include a way to use the last result in the current calculation?
I usually use the command-line bc (which is very similar to your program but with fewer functionalities), and when I use ".", it is replaced by the last value it output.
In case I'm not explaining myself decently, here's an example:
Code: Text [Select]
  1. 2*6
  2.    12
  3. .*10
  4.    120
  5. ./6
  6.    20

From what I understand from the only information I read on the matter, this was actually an attempt to have the EU remove the laws that prevent manufacturers from writing their product cures all kinds of problems on its packing.
I think it was a clever trick, but I'm happy that the EU did this ruling, I don't think it'd be nice for us to have the packing of french fries saying they cure cancer.

[edit] obviously, Eóin had already said something similar to this in his previous posts, so just carry on  :-[ [/Edit]

I'm sure there was some discussion here on DC about something very related to this (I think it was Renegade that posted it). I'd like to crosslink to the other thread but I can't find it now.

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: Gridmove: intermittent bluescreen?
« Last post by jgpaiva on November 16, 2011, 08:58 AM »
Hi Crazy_J, welcome to DonationCoder!

Honestly, I have never seen GridMove cause a bluescreen and I see no reason that should happen. Typically bluescreens are caused by faulty drivers, stuff that is closer to the kernel than GridMove.
My only suggestion is that you try not using GridMove for one week or so, and see if the problem comes up again. Also, since it happens when you log off from the remote server, maybe you could force it by repeatedly doing that operation? I'm sorry for not being more helpful, but I really have no idea what could cause your problem :(

aarontx: Honestly, it never occurred me that someone would need such a function, so it's not possible to do that GridMove.

@Perry: glad to know you're back! I don't want to be a bore, but I am also anxious to see your pics  :-[

@fenixproductions: Perry is already back, see here :P

General Software Discussion / Re: The new evolution of CircleDock?

Also, the forums have posts dating back to Feb 2009. Not sure how that fits with circle dock's timeline, though.

Site/Forum Features / Re: [SUGGESTION] websites worth clicking at subforum
« Last post by jgpaiva on November 07, 2011, 11:09 AM »
I think that from previous experiences, creating subforums is actually an art. Most of the time, you just end up dispersing the content and people don't find what they are looking for (or where they should post).
However, I could easily see this as a thread on the General Software Discussion board (which would become sticky after it had some relevant intrest) ;).

Everyone has had their say (not only in this thread but in the others too), and we've all seen this discussion way too many times already.
I have locked the thread, if you have any trouble with that, please PM me.

lilfire: can you post a screenshot of the list of grids you have, and of the "gridorder" dialog with the settings you're trying to use?

ath: you can change win+G to something else ;)

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. then follow tomos's advice, win+g then pressing "n" will change to the next grid. You can change the list which it cycles through in the tray menu ;)

PS there is a help text file
I dont know what "FastMove" is...
Sorry, the help file doesn't really help much with "FastMove"  :-[
It's the fastest way to move windows. Just press Win+# (where '#' is a number), and GridMove will move the active window to the corresponding grid ;)

ghostsquad: have you tried using gridmove with the middle-click method? Its much faster because it works anywhere on the window, and it does not have that kind of trouble with strange apps (which unfortunately are more and more frequent)

Living Room / Re: Newb - Question about monitoring activity on a network
« Last post by jgpaiva on October 22, 2011, 05:01 AM »
I guess what I'm trying to figure out is the full potential of URL Snooper.  Will it monitor activity on my network or just my computer?
URL snooper will only capture the network activity of your computer.
There are a few tools that might help you see other people's network activity, such as wireshark.

However, ultimately, your ability to do this depends on your network configuration. If all devices were connected to a hubw, all network packets will be flooded to all machines in the network (and thus your computer may get and listen to other people's packages). However, you most probably have a network routerw, which means you probably have a switchw, which sends the packets only to their correct destination. If so, then your best shot is looking in your router's configuration page to see if it has any way of getting a log of the traffic that goes through it, or installing a new firmware that allows you to do it (this might not be the best option, if you are not comfortable with doing it).

This used to be a recurring issue 1 year ago with Opera, usually opening DC's CSS and reloading it sorted the issue out.

Actually, this is a "feature" in some cameras. When I bought mine, I actually pondered buying one of those with geotagging, it looks like a very cool idea when you are on vacations to be able to see the itinerary you made and remember which location each photo corresponds to.
However, I do agree that there should be an easy way to remove the information before uploading it anywhere.

Or better yet, let the users choose the colors for all that stuff.  What do you say?
No! Never! :P
Even though I do agree that the design can and should be improved, mouser's programs suffer from excess of options, and this is clearly not a main feature of the program, it should not be an option.

I suggest a lighter grey background for the selected field :)

DC is kind of like the Hotel California...you can check-out, but you can never leave!
Doesn't that also apply to some terror movies? :P

Except then they'd hugely increase their storage costs as they'd need to maintain different copies of vids for different ads.
Good point, I'de never thought that might be one of the reasons they don't include the ads in the video itself.
Also, there wouldn't be any "x" to close, I suppose that matters too.

Could someone tell me if any of these programs works with 2 computers on different LANs? (same question as in my previous post)
I know a friend of mine uses synergy to do this. It does involve some extra network configuration, using ssh tunnels IIRC.
