The Getting Organized Experiment of 2006 / pc fasting (from lifedev.net)
« Last post by nudone on September 15, 2006, 04:32 PM »
i don't think this has been mentioned before...

pc fasting, i.e. limiting your time at the computer. productivity went up, etc, etc. makes a whole lot of sense to me - but then i tend to get away from the computer for a good few hours each night anyway.

here's the link if you are interested: http://lifedev.net/2...06/09/computer-fast/

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Zoom Player - the all-in-one media player!
« Last post by nudone on September 15, 2006, 04:15 PM »
okay, i was getting a little excited there. KMPlayer still has the most power/options that i can see - things like being able to capture 'live' what you are watching and save out to another video file - i've not seen that done with any other player.

i never received their sign-up email when i used a hotmail account - all spam filters are off so it wouldn't have been deleted by accident. but it did work using a gmail account.

thanks for mentioning GOM Player, chrisa52.

i'd been using KMPlayer (after being a fan of mpc and vlc) but GOM looks like a very polished piece of software - i can see me using it as my default player.

so far it's played everything i've thrown at it and it seems to have pretty much every feature i could ask for - it really does look like they've taken out all the good bits from the other power media players and combined them altogether.

i'm still playing with it but i'm really pleased with what i've seen so far - it's got hotkeys, buttons, EVERYTHING. anyone curious i really do recommend you giving GOM a try.

here are a few more skins: http://www.gomplayer.jp/skin/index.html

i admit, i signed up at digg.com today just so that i could vote - but hey, i'm a super motivated kinda guy that's getting everything done.

what's the excuse for the rest of the DC GTD participants that don't digg?

congratulations to mouser on doing the interview with DA. and many thanks to Mukestar and JavaJones for work on the podcast.

i'm looking forward to hearing part 2 next week.

great to finally see grid creator, jgpaiva.

it would certainly be nice if the creation window 'snapped' to the edges of the screen - might it be possible so that after you click 'add trigger #' yet another 'creator' window opened so that you could position it alongside the 'creator' window you've just set up. of course, it would be useful if these 'creator' windows snapped to each other as well.

you could then keep adding 'creator' windows until you had your full grid set out on screen - all nicely lined up and snapped together.

i'm not into role play - i just want to run around shooting at things.

i won't go into it now but the second book confused me - made me question the whole self-motivation 'business'.

don't get me wrong - there are things in it that i think would be very useful. but if you want to read the antithesis to 'Do It Tomorrow' then read 'HTMYDCT'.

(might be better if you just don't read it.)

i'm just catching up with the most recent posts as i've been away so i don't know what else you've been discussing yet. whilst away i read Forster's 2nd book 'How To Make Your Dreams Come True'.

this 2nd book seems to contradict the first and third books that Forster has published - i'd like to know how he resolves the conflict - does he even think there is one?

does he consider that his third and most recent book 'Do It Tomorrow' is the only one that offers 'correct' guidance as it supplants the previous two books - or does he not think it does and they can all be treated of equal importance?

online play might generate more interest if we pick a game that will run on older machines - something that people might have already - unreal tournament (version 1) maybe?

i've done wallpapers in the past that were similar. i won't say they were quite the same but random(ish) vector art tends to come out that way - not sure what the style is called but you'll find quite a lot of it.

i was intending to edit them and upload them to my portfolio site (when it is eventually created) so i'll let you know when it happens.

perhaps the only difference with what i did was that the images were darker - i don't like bright wallpapers.

app, i have to take issue with your comment on being bored. as i mentioned earlier - the concept of boredom doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere by self-motivation gurus - not very surprising i suppose.

i've steered clear of making the glib "if you say you're bored then it is you that is boring" remark in the past as that is a disservice to the nature of boredom - perhaps it is appropriate to say to a child, it certainly had the desired effect with you, but i think 'adult' boredom is more serious an issue - from personal experience i would say that it is connected with depression.

i said earlier that i had a whole list of things i could have been doing when i felt bored - i have often tried to sound profound when talking with friends about boredom by saying that you can only feel bored if you have something to do - you are just refusing to do it. i've always had something to do in life, i've always had more interests than i know what to do with - really, who hasn't?

thankfully i haven't been bored for years - well, except during my last job - that's why i quit. i'm sure i'm a very boring person to some people but i don't think that is why i was bored - there were a few things i could have done to relieve the boredom whilst i was at work - like having a lobotomy or shouting "fire, fire" but other than that i don't know what i could do. i was trapped in a place where i had to work a certain mundane way, do certain tedious things - i felt like a robot - it depressed me - i became BORED.

self inflicted boredom, like the mardy child, that wants others to entertain it is something entirely different to an adult that feels incapable of finding motivation.

great, do keep us informed of how you progress, arjendk - especially if you find things don't go to plan.

i've taken a peek at your grid. nice idea.

i think simple is the way to go - my supergrid was too much for me to use - too many choices.

cody has a lot of credits waiting for you, jgpaiva - if you can implement the 'intelligent' position dialog to place highlighted button under mouse cursor.

i love dialogmove more and more each day - especially when i have to use someone else's retarded machine that doesn't have dialogmove on it.

hello, hello. anyone there?

i'd like to remind everyone - or introduce you to this thread.

cheat sheeter still remains a brilliant idea - yet to be fully realised - so let's see if we can get things moving again.

COME ON!!!

i agree.

nothing to do with self-motivation techniques but having lots of free time definitely allows you to start 'thinking'. this appears to be a luxury (and maybe a curse) as you begin to realise/perceive things that a great number of people don't pick up on. i won't dwell or try to extrapolate further as i will just sound like a ranting armchair philosopher - which i am.
