General Software Discussion / Re: What went wrong with Linux on the Desktop

Those who are using Visual studio knows Why I am saying this, because microsoft's own programs make the system unusable.
I've been running every single version (not every edition, of course!) and service pack of Visual Studio from 6 to 2010 SP1, and will soon be installing 2012. I've even been using VS on Win9x. While the first VS.NET version was pretty crappy and unstable, I've never had VS affect my system stability, and never heard of stories like that from friends or co-workers.

Same here all the way back to 9x. Hell we've even got one guy that (does legacy stuff) is still doing VB code with VS6, on Windows 8.

Good point Ren!

Mine is a bit more targeted at culinary fans, theirs is more targeted at quick family fun.

If it really is too close to risk marketing it yourself ... Any chance they'd buy it from you as a spin-off?

Maybe they're just mad because the screen is to small ... ;) ...I kinda like it myself, and I'm looking to switch to a Win8 phone in the next month or so (whenever they come out).

I've often wondered about the whole selling time in the CPU distributed computing thing. How (if at all) profitable is/could Bitcoin Mining be?

Go to ScanEye and click Check IP - see what it says you've torrented, (copyrighted stuff via public trackers only, AFAICT).

Okay, that's a bit more than just a little spooky.

Maybe he's never heard of the loose lips sink ships rule.

What would be really hysterical is if Korea pulls a Judo Throw with the increasing emerging info on the trial flaws and gets it overturned. Bets on whether that will happen? Hmm.

Groklaw - Apple v Samsung Foreman Gets More Things Wrong ~pj

This is in the believe it or not category, but the foreman in the Apple v Samsung trial is *still* talking about the verdict and why the jurors did what they did. And the more he talks, the worse it gets for that verdict.

I would quote, but the article is very small so it's probably better to just give a quick look.

Maybe he's never heard of the loose lips sink ships rule.

But too bad it's now the first to file instead of the first to invent under the new US Patent law

Great, now all they need is a disgruntled employee to smuggle out a few drawings and file for a patent on a cutting edge project. Bet they'll be grooving on that new system then.

Gives me a great idea for a Dead Spider virus. Take one infected device broadcasting control codes and walk through a mall, it then completely shuts down any device in range causing it to shrivel up like a dead spider, and only able to broadcast the shutdown control codes it was given. Now you get an exponentially growing circle of Dead Spiders.

I purchased this product 4.47 Billion Years ago and when I opened it today, it was half empty.

Living Room / Re: SEC uses JOBS Act to set up new roadblocks to crowdfunding
« Last post by Stoic Joker on September 04, 2012, 11:29 AM »
Well Gee Wiz the official decision when the criminal banking types totally boned the economy was a dazzling array of golden showers parachutes to rescue the greedy billionaires from "poverty" while the (pathetic remnants of a) middle class got completely shit on. How many people did the SEC see about locking up???

Now the little guy comes up with a way of cutting through the endless miles of red tape...and guess who is all bent outta shape.

The SEC needs to just admit to being completely useless, disband, dry up, and blow away.

Maybe the idea is to let Apple clear the field first? Once Apple establishes everybody infringed on Apple all LG needs to do is show Apple infringed on LG and they'd have a clean sweep with minimal legal effort since if A=B and B=C then A=C.

It's a sound strategy ... Low exposure/high gain, and everybody loses ... Especially us.

Use Load Hive, browse to the other OS's registry files (X:\Windows\System32\config (IIRC)) and select the one you want. After it's mounted just browse it as normal.

I don't think, other than Apple's retina display, anyone has any pc displays that can go higher than 1080p.

Don't be too sure about that... :)

Not sure exactly what you mean by parallel, but basically yes.

Regedit's file menu contains several options for accessing another machines registry:
Import/Export is for any .reg files
Load/Unload Hive is for local access to another copy of Windows' registry files (or another user's NTUser.dat file).
Connect/Disconnect Network Registry is for connecting to another machine's registry across the network (remote registry service must be running on target machine)

So the Samsung Galaxy S3 is like an iPhone with a good antenna?

Is that a mac?? :P

It does rather appear to be one doesn't it.

What OSs are being used? Could Previous versions be an option?

Okay... So who wants to call a data recovery company and ask them to get the (extremely important...) "data" off their battery?? Be firm, persistent, and verry stressed out...and above all...Please do record the discussion.  :D

Nice HotKey list he's got there. I'm always looking for new keyboard shortcuts.

Haven't jumped to 8 on a primary machine yet ... But I'm thinking about it. Just can't decide which one to sacrifice (home or work) to the cause first.

Interesting that he repeatedly says "...and I said to the jury", Instead of saying I said to my fellow jurors. He sort of puts himself above the rest in a position of authority...and you can bet your ass he (and his pontificating to a bunch of sheeple) is the sole reason apple won.
