BlackBird.

It would also have been a perfect name for a Twitter-client  8)

I think Cockatoo would be more on point.

Look at that wikipedia article linked above.  It has all of the builds there.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Mp3-Favoriter (in o.a. Windows Explorer)

One quick comment.  While the entirety of the idea seems very specific to your needs, one small part of it seems like it might be generally useful.  There are many times when I want to remember the location of a file..  A little right-click file extension with an item "Add to favorite files" which just added the file path to a text file that I could open and browse would be neat.

That sounds interesting... I might try to whip something up for NANY. :)

General Software Discussion / OneDrive Crashing in Windows 10
« Last post by wraith808 on October 12, 2016, 07:52 PM »
I just purchased a new surface.  One of the reasons I went with the 128GB is because I could add that much via the micro SD slot for cheaper than upgrading.  So I did.  My plans were to put all of my sync folders and dev folders on that card, and use the other for programs.  I had to jump through some hoops because Dropbox doesn't allow you to use an SD Card, but I created a junction, and everything is fine.  Or I thought so.

Suddenly, OneDrive started crashing on startup with no message.  I checked the event logs, and that was not very useful - fault in ntdll.dll.  I was about to give up, and just change my plans, when I came across a link that gave a possible solution- change it from exFAT (the default on those cards) to NTFS.  So, went through moving everything to my internal, then formatting it... then moving it back... and lo and behold, it started working again.

Just posting this here in case anyone else has a similar problem (and hoping that it stays stable).

... and it wouldn't let me give it a window of more than 12 hours, ...

Yeah, annoyed me too but it did say that it will check to see if the computer is being used if outside that 12 hour window.

Then, when it started, it had removed/blocked my displayfusion.  And put up some BS FUD about it might damage my computer.

I didn't get that, DF continued to work without a problem, ClassicShell upgraded itself to cope with the new updates.

I was actually able to get it to run.  And the thing that bothered me about the check for activity, is that it takes 90 mins+ to install.  Just because I went upstairs to get coffee, I wouldn't be ready to install.

And they installed skype, and made it front and center.

And I went upstairs to do some random stuff... and came back downstairs and it had restarted.  I just want active hours to be 8AM to 12AM.  Is that so unreasonable?

First, a clarification- I connect all of my calls on my iPhone, through my iOS application, i.e. I never use headphones on my computer to connect.

In order to connect my call, I do one of three things.

(1) go to google.com/voice, and enter the number.  It calls me back on my iPhone, and I talk.
(2) use the dialer in the iOS app.
(3) click on the name in the iOS app.

After the call is through, I see a dialed number in the screen that has a list of all of the numbers I've previously dialed, or that have dialed me.  If I click on the number that I dialed, instead of re-dialing that number, it filters all of the calls I've made to that particular number.  In the upper right, there are three dots.  If I hold on that, the following screen comes up.

IMG_1082.PNG

From there, it creates an iOS contact.  Not exactly one touch now that I'm going through it... but close enough that it seems so.  But again, this is specifically on the iOS, so your experience might be different.

LOL!  Yeah... I think it's a matter of degrees and audience, rather than clear cut based on features.  As a writer, it didn't seem geared to me as much as Scrivener.  But, if I was a game designer, I think that it would be geared towards me.  At least, that's the feel I got.

That is the anniversary update.  And they are staggering release.  It was started on August 2nd... sort of.  That was the official release date given, but some people had it before then.

https://support.micr...ws-10-update-history

http://www.zdnet.com...-anniversary-update/

https://en.wikipedia...s_10_version_history

And because of that, when you get it, you might be getting it with other updates that were found in the meantime.
2711
That's a different experience from what I get.  If I start on https://www.google.com/voice/, I enter the number I wish to call, and it connects me on my phone.  Or if I'm on the app on my phone, I can just call the number.  I can then, in one touch, add that number as a contact.  Are you using a different interface?

... or more likely, "We know how to protect users from themselves, think of all the support we'd have to provide for Home users when they screw up their Group Policy settings or forget their Bitlocker password, that'll cost us bucket loads, just remove those items from the Home edition."

That makes a bit more sense. Not that I agree that it shouldn't at least have some easily unlockable featureset, but I can see that rationale.

Think back to how many times in the past you've had a user in a business environment ask you what the green files are for ... and that's about as much justification as is needed. ;)

It annoys me when I say, Open Windows Explorer.  Then we go through a bit of back and forth... and I realize they've opened Internet Explorer.

Afaik, you are attached to a singular Gmail account, and I have different accts for biz, personal finance, travel, Bible, etc.
Theoretically I could use it for my conglomeration forwarding account, I would have to test that to see how it works.

I am not.  I have a Google Apps (cloud?  home) address, then several addresses that feed into that particular address through the use of forwarders.  I have a separate Google Apps account for work, and a separate one that I am currently in the process of deprecating.  I've not had a problem finding contacts, and more importantly, keeping them separate when they shouldn't be together, i.e. sending a correspondence to someone with a similar name across accounts.  There are certain annoyances- the fact that now I'm using a different account, I can't transfer the google voice number between the accounts.  But my contacts- I've never had a problem, whether I've corresponded with them by e-mail or not.

What is the particular use case that you're having a problem with?  I'm having a problem unpacking your query (though that may be my fault)

General Software Discussion / Re: Evernote and Rightnote integration

I have a Rightnote license.  And I don't use it, for many of the reasons you say.  It doesn't really add anything, IMO.  And the Evernote desktop client is a lot better to work in IMO.  And I gather a lot in Evernote with the webclipper- why would I gather it, have it synced up, then have to sync down in order to work on it.

I use Scrivener.  And though you can do many of the things that you can do with Articy:Draft with Scrivener, there is a difference in focus.  Similar tasks, but different ends.  And as such, there is a distinct difference in the execution, purpose, and focus of the software.  That is the reason that I, in the end, didn't stay with it when I trialed it, but rather continued to use Scrivener.  I am not doing a good job of explaining the difference- it's a bit in the use, I'm afraid, rather than what I can put into words.  Which is the reason I was glad that I had a trial.  I don't think that anyone would have been able to tell me whether one or the other was for me- but it became obvious quite quickly in use.

Did you watch the feature videos?

Some of the reviews state what it does better than I'd be able to.  It's definitely beyond just flowcharting- but rather a story writing tool, storing relationships, conditions, branching logic in a manner that's tailored to the task.  You can do everything manually in many other tools.  But there's something about using a tool custom built for the task, with all of the QoL involved.

There's a two week trial in which you can formulate your own opinions, and see if it would be good for your workflow.  I decided that for the level of what I do, it wasn't for me.

http://www.nevigo.com/en/ - that's the actual site for the software.

@4wd: Thanks!    :Thmbsup:

@wraith808: It might not seem to make sense, but it might make sense if one realises that some moronic marketing guy at M$ probably thought it made sense.

I'm sure it's more than just marketing.  There's some sort of decision making process behind it- especially as MS released the spreadsheet, and this isn't a marketed feature.  I was just wondering what that reasoning might be.

I get what you mean.  A lot of the conclusions are false dichotomies based on the question.

My rules were:
If someone is breaking the law, they should not be considered.
The person in the car (who can't move) should be given preference, as the pedestrian has more of a chance.
People should be preferred over animals.
Intervene only in cases where one of the above can be clearly seen.

Age, nor race, nor fitness, nor criminality came into account.

Because of how the questions were setup, they drew other false conclusions.

It's a nice device... and I really love it after having it in hand.  My annoyances so far have nothing to do with the device.

I'm trying to get it set up, and having 128GB means I'm making some immediate concessions in order to make sure I don't feel constrained later.  One of those is buying a 128GB card, and using that for data, while I use the main drive for more integral things.

Cubby works fine with an SD card.  Not so much Dropbox and ... Onedrive?  Really Microsoft?  You tout that as one of the possibilities for adding storage... and then your own program, which you also tout as having things always available, can't use it?

I think I've found a way around it using symlinks, but it shouldn't be necessary.

Mine won't update definitions anymore automatically.  I have to download it and install the definitions.  Definitely annoying.

I guess this is the result of the Microsoft/Ubuntu partnership since Windows now has Bash available.

The project has actually been on github for a while.  I thought I'd found out about it here a while ago, but perhaps I misremembered where I read about it.

JennyB, you inherited your mom's big house, but were afraid time & maintenance would eat the worth.
So, how did it all go? Did you leave it all  and biked out of Ulster, or such?

Considering her last active was in 2015, I think you're going to have to be content with not knowing the story.  ;D
