Screenshot Captor / Re: Keyboard nudge x 10 and pan last region
« Last post by mouser on February 15, 2018, 07:28 PM »
I look forward to hearing more..

You've actually given me an idea as well.. I could add a hotkey feature that auto grows (or shrinks) the region border by detecting uniform background, much in the way a lasso function works..
You would select a region outside the image and it would contract the region walls as long as the background on each side continued to be uniform.  That would let you capture small objects very precisely with little effort.
If it started by EXPANDING the region if borders didn't start out uniform, it could be used both in cases where you initially select a region larger than the object, or in cases where you selected some interior region including the object of interest.

I guess I am a bit confused.. I use the zoom overlay when I want to capture something to exact boundaries..  I use the mouse to get close and then nudge a couple of pixels to get it exact.

Is it that you are basically selecting one corner and then you know you need to go say 16 pixels right and down, and so you want to be able to go +10 and then +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 without having to do much eyeballing?

Can you try the new version and see if the acceleration helps?  I can see why if you had to count out 16 (or 32) clicks exactly then it would be a pain to have to do it using sixteen +1 nudges..

It just seems to me that with the acceleration, zoom panel, and tooltip showing the capture size, it would be pretty efficient to get it approximately right and the tweak one or two pixels to get it exact, rather than counting out.

Related question:  If the issue is getting exact SIZED captures of small things (rather than eyeballing with overlay window, etc), then perhaps you would benefit most from the feature I am about to add that lets you use 1-9 key to adjust capture region size to one of a set of user-configurable "favorite" sizes.  Then you could set sizes of 16x16, 32x32, etc. and easily select them..

What about a single keyboard shortcut that expanded capture box symmetrically by X pixels in one shot?  Are you always wanting to expand the capture region by same amount?

v4.23.1 BETA - Feb 14, 2018
  • [Improvement] Much faster region select capture mode keyboard nudge speed.

NOTE: There is no point downloading this beta unless you want to help test the new features listed above, because I will be releasing new betas frequently in the next week or two as I add features.  So unless you want to help test stuff frequently, just wait until a new official release later this month.

I'm not saying I won't implement the 10 pixel nudge function, but I have a question -- is the need for an exact accurate 10 pixel nudge ability, or is the problem simply that the current keyboard adjustment is too slow?

I have uploaded a beta with accelerated keyboard nudging speed in region select mode, so now holding down a cursor key to nudge is now be dramatically faster and smoother than it was before, and it works with all of the modifiers (shift, alt).

Give it a try and let me know what you think:

Some weird things are happening - for example if I go to Facebook I cannot click on Friends, Photos etc. on any profile (including my own). I can post from my time line but not my own profile page.

I don't know anything about facebook but this can't be a hardware problem -- it's happening from multiple browsers so it has to be something weirder like firewall, etc.  I'd try to run down this issue and make sure it's not totally unrelated to your other problems and possibly just one of those things that makes sense after you figure out what's happening.

you should be able to fix it by changing the DPI setting in SC, just remember it only affects newly captured images after you change the DPI, and it won't work on simple image formats like BMP.

Here is what *I* would do:

1. Is it time for a new computer? Has it been over 5-7 years since I got a new one and is this one not quite up to snuf?? If so buy a new pc.
2. Either way, I would take old hard drive out and put it on the shelf for backup, buy a new hard drive and replace it, and do a clean install of windows.
3. If odd problems remain, then for sure I would get a new pc and put the current one to pasture.

I know it's not what you want to do, I just feel like the risks and stress of using flakey software and hardware are not worth it to my piece of mind.. I'd rather bite the bullet and eliminate all potential sources of the problem rather than be constantly hunting down mystery bugs..

Are there any 3d modeling experts who could make a seriously accurate cody?  Are there places we could *hire* someone to do it?

Mine came out a little worse -- I printed him upright and one of his legs became encased in supports and came off with them.

It's a good start, but I think we're going to need a substantially better looking Cody if it's something I can print and paint and send to people as a thank you.

Maybe a design with cody sitting would be more in his character, like:
4by3-games-div-small.jpg

I'm trying to think what kind of image would be best and be feasible..

Maybe him sitting holding a big coin that said DonationCoder.com on it, or maybe something where we could customize the text so we could give it out as an award and make it say different things like "1000 post award" or "NANY 2020", etc.

The thing is, it would really have to look like Cody not just a distant 8 bit relative..

Rename it to NANY 2019

And we'll move it to the NANY 2019 board when that is created.

Living Room / The remains of the anonymous exhibitionist site Chatroullette
« Last post by mouser on February 14, 2018, 01:03 PM »
For those who weren't around when Chatroullette came about -- it was (is) a site that matched random webcam users up for anonymous connections, where you would randomly meet people from across the globe.  It quickly turned into a random online exhibitionism tool.

In 2010, Chatroulette was the “it” site. It was profiled religiously, as was its eventual rise and decline in popularity. By June of that year, reporters had gone from singing its praise as “the future of the internet” to writing its obituary (“Cause of death: penises”)... The men who remain — and make no mistake, they are overwhelmingly men — still consider it a place to waste a little time online... Between the occasional, curious user who is truly interested in just chatting, are the ones everyone has come to expect: the on-cam men jerking off.

Screenshot Captor / Gathering suggestions for improving region select mode
« Last post by mouser on February 13, 2018, 01:39 PM »
Region select mode seems one of the most common ways people use Screenshot Captor.

So I'm ready to make some improvements to the region select mode, including more hotkeys to do different things..
I'd like to hear some requests and suggestions.

Right now region select mode has the following features:
1. You can mouse-down and then drag and let go for the fastest way to capture a region.
2. You can click mouse once (or hit enter or spacebar) for one corner and then again on the second corner to select a region, using cursor keys* to adjust points, and escape to change your mind and go back to previous corner.

Current hotkeys:  Cursor keys by themselves nufge the current cursor pointer location, shift and alt can be used to move the other corner or the entire selection; C key toggles cursor capture AND places cursor (try it!); Z toggle zoom box.

Currently planned improvements:  Keyboard shortcuts in region mode to increase speed of nudging; hotkeys to cycle through some preset sizes.

I was also thinking about adding a simple way to allow region select mode to allow you to easily make a selection size and then move that selection around with the mouse.. Right now if you want to capture a specific size region you use a different capture mode, but it might be nice to merge the two.

Another thing I could do is show hints for the list of keyboard shortcuts for region select mode in the zoom panel overlay, to make it easier to remeber them..

Thoughts and further suggestions?

I'm still a multiple-times-a-day user of Website Watcher, so we can always discuss it here..  I guess I don't really use the advanced features though, so we may not be much use for such information.

This is not specific to ahk, just a general reminder that for portable programs, it is safe to save an ini (or other) file in the same directory as the script, but for programs that you will want to use an installer to install into the "C:\Program Files\" or similar directory, you will have to save ini files into a different directory -- one under the user's home directory.
