Hi Manu,
I'm looking into it now -- i'm pretty certain that this bug is due to code i recently added to prevent it from returning items in the history when they don't live in a directory normally searched, for use with the new +modifiers for switching which directories to search in.

I'm going to fix it so if you don't specify explicitly directories to look in with a +modifier, then it will not reject history items which aren't on your current search path, which should solve your problem.

Sorry i didn't notice the bug report earlier.

sure sounds like a bug regarding the ff window popping up again.. does it happen when you launch normal applications through farr?  do you have the option set to "Close Window After Launch" ?

as far as opening urls in a current tab, that's going to be up to firefox im afraid, but if there is a commanline option to tell ff to do it, someone let me know.

General Software Discussion / Re: how to extract links from a site?
« Last post by mouser on April 29, 2007, 05:35 AM »
do you just want to extract links on a single page, or on an entire site?
and you just want the links, not the entire site content?

there are some good tools for grabbing the entire content from a site (Teleport Pro, Offline Explorer).

and there are some good download managers (and probably firefox extensions) which can list all the links on a page from within your browser.

what wordzilla doesn't know is that i planted a codyvirus in his forum signature.. each time he posts cody steals one big giant gold coin from him :)

one of the best things about asking for donations is that it has enabled us to get a nice server with generous bandwidth so we don't yet have to worry about such things.

maybe someone can write a plugin to interface with the best free+pay sticky notes apps, so you can add stickies from farr.

I remember when i used to be very protective of my memory -- checking programs to make sure they didn't use too much.. and then one day i completely flipped and i started thinking, damn it i have 2gb of memory, i want something using that memory and not have it all go to waste!!! that's when i started filling up my system tray (yes you heard me right) with gadgets :)

In the days of win9x i would be very concerned about resource use of programs that were meant to stay running in the background.  As Renegade says, if a program is not really meant to be running all the time and you just use it and then close it, it doesn't matter to me.  But with modern pcs and all this memory, and operating systems designed to not freak out with resource use so much, it's not something i worry so much about.  I still do worry about cpu use though for background processes, but again not as much as i used to.

chs has ability to make a sound so you can verify when it captures something -- i find this invaluable and wouldn't be without it.

if you ever find that when you do ctrl+c that chs isn't grabbing it (ie you don't here the sound), try right-clicking on chs tray icon and select "re-establish clipboard chain" and see if that fixes it.  sometimes a program will crash or otherwise disrupt window's clipboard chain, which means that programs which have registered to be notified of clipboard changes no longer get notified.

This is a good "escape-from-the-room" style flash game, but with some scares and mature themes.. well done though.

how about someone here makes a little util which is just pure black screen with red or green laser spot, controllable by mouse or switchable into auto random movement mode.
26992
oh good point regarding dir display; that would make for a good option.
26993
ok ill try it.. maybe it has something to do with launching from regular expression..

ps.
i'd like to hear feedback regarding whether the large icon display mode should be default.
26994
nitrix i'm having trouble reproducing the problem.. does it happen consistently for you? maybe you can send me your FindAndRunRobot.ini file with instructions on what triggers it.

Find And Run Robot / Re: how do i.. with an alias?
« Last post by mouser on April 27, 2007, 05:34 AM »
actually jgpaiva's solution is basically correct -- you just need to update your alias result to SHOW YOU the : as well:

i.e. change
ejectCD $$1 | "C:\Program Files\SysTools\EJECT.EXE" $$1:

to
ejectCD $$1: | "C:\Program Files\SysTools\EJECT.EXE" $$1:

keep in mind this will not work on your example of "eject e f" since it will only add one : at the end of the f
but you could solve this by making another ejectcd alias which matches 2 drive letters and adds a : to both, but that would require a separate regular expression alias.

in this case, a better thing might be to launch a kind of batch file or script to invoke and do the replacement after the launch by this script. i urge people to use this kind of approach.

Ken and I have been working as a team to post interesting web finds for the DC blog (http://blog.donationcoder.com), but ken is taking a well deserved break so i need to find another person to team up with until Ken comes to his senses.

Basically i (and maybe others) would email you a few interesting urls per day, with a brief word or two, and you would basically visit the webpage and if you agree it's interesting, make a little post on the forum (in the appropriate section) about it, with a screenshot.  Sometimes adding a quote from the page, and/or your own comments about why it's interesting.  I usually then tag the post as being an official blog item which will show on the http://blog.donationcoder.com page, but if you want to do that part also that would be even better.

Ken has been using Screenshot Captor to add the screenshots, which makes life a bit easier as the thumbnail button will resize, create a border, and copy the screenshot path to the clipboard for easy pasting in the DC forum new post form.  The "webfind template" drop down box on the new post form also makes it a lot easier to make these posts, but it's still a bit of work to be doing this 4 or 5 times a day.

Being able to add an informed opinion to the posts would definitely help, as would finding cool things to post about on your own from the world of the web, but that's not strictly required.

Anyone want to volunteer? I'll give you a little crash course on the procedure if so (or ken can!).  Rewards = fortune and fame and the forum's heartfelt appreciation, minus the fortune and fame.

If you are interested and willing to do it for at least a month, drop me a message via the forum or email ([email protected]).
