And for dvd production, i use professional quality tools only because I am an obnoxiously picky person and like to complicate my life needlessly.

And we like that about you. :) So what are you using for DVD burning/producing?

Either way, a DENIAL OF SERVICE, is occurring of a DISTRIBUTED nature. The "scammer" in this case would be denied the ability to perform their "service". DDoS is not simply limited to IP flooding, Security 101.

That's 3000 - 5000 emails to sort through in the hopes that one person sent his personal information.

The bogus email volume should be smaller/a believable size, and should contain auto-generated bogus personal information, which should make it a complete waste of time for the scammer. Especially if the Fuzz are alerted to watch for the personal info they're about to try using... ;)

A smaller volume of bogus emails would defeat the purpose, which is to overwhelm the scammer and force him to give up on that particular scam and start all over with a new return email address.

With a large volume of misc. mail, they know they're being attacked. But with a small volume of valid looking garbage data they're being toyed with in a cat and mouse fashion. Think about it. Their 'product' is bulk quantities of stolen identities. If their 'product' can be tainted...so will their reputation be. Making them a paria to their buyers.

It's like giving them a full clip of blank ammo in the middle of a fire fight.

Friends don't let friends use Facebook.

Can we get Facebook declared a Cruel and Unusual punishment?  :P

Not sure, I think it actually falls under the 'Self Abuse' catagory.

I've always liked these guys for breaking the green cars have to be neutered mold. The Tesla is flat-out fast with a 0-60 time in the 4sec range and a top speed of 130mph ... Now that is a proper car! The completely castrated, vomit worthy Toyota Prius and idiotically dangerous "Smart" cars that makeup the classic 'Green Mobile' are just gay hippie fashion statements.

What was done (with questionable legality) once can be done again. I don't think he - or Megaupload - are out of the woods just yet... :tellme:

He ain't out of the woods...but he ain't deep in them either. And if he can make a big enough mess (not a huge one...) on the way out, the Feds will have to go looking for a fight they can win elsewhere. Kinda of a question of which one do they hate worse, losing or wasting time. :)

IMHO, SaaS is just a marketing buzzword for putting a taxi meter on a piece of code rather than licensing it outright. To me, it's a revenue model - not a technical or functional distinction. And it has its place (I suppose) in corporate IT planning and strategy.

Agreed 100%, it's a BS gimmick to keep the customer from "wasting" money on in-house IT staff by making them piss it directly uphill to the vendor.

The white on white mouseover menu item thing is a bit disconcerting, but good luck with the project.

Isn't that what the native Windows Libraries feature is for? Combined with saved custom searches (grouped by date/size/etc) should make for a fairly flexible solution.

on the .de link, it works like google maps:

  • you can zoom in and out with just the mouse wheel (doesnt work with control) and
  • it will zoom into wherever the mouse pointer is

Makes it easier to find the interesting bits without killing your wrist with all that click and drag :)

http://xkcd-map.rent-a-geek.de/

That would definitely be a godsend -- as the clicking is killing me (arthritis) -- but is this a FF only thing?? The lower map frame doesn't show up for me in IE.

Developer's Corner / Re: change page size for default printer

It sounds to me like it is just streaming to report to the printer as one big report sized page. Instead of breaking the output down into (paginated) page sized blocks that would then "fit" into the tear off points.

Just to be clear, what is actually sending the print job/report to the print driver, your code, or the Crystal/MS reporting software.

If it is your code that is sending the print job to the driver, then you should be able to paginate it to any paper size you like.

I freaking love Gustave Dore.  My real fantasy would be to make animation in the style of Dore etchings: (see attachment in previous post)

lol, is that posted in the wrong thread (or am I missing something?)

I'm thinking it's an extension on the Titled Windmills theme, as the fellow in the pic appears to be losing a fight with one that he is trying to "tilt".

I can attest to there being at least two of us guilty of that. :)

I'm on day of a server (went boom) outage. I spent yesterday reloading the OS & etc. Today I spent trying to figure out which one of the brand new drives I'd overnighted was defective ... because after reloading the OS (and etc...) 3 times the array (mirror with hotspare) kept coming unwound (Foreign configuration detected (Err? WTF?)).

So what songs do you know that all the words in them start with f... :)

Assign it to a contact and then block that contact. I do it through Google Contacts on my Android Razr.

Isn't that kind of time consuming?

Nope, depending on the phone you can add like 10-15 numbers to a given blocked contact entry. I used to use a complete silence ringtone for a group of 30 numbers (debt collector types) that fit nicely into only 2 contact entries. and it's a breeze to add a alternate # to any contact. ;)

And... This thread has prompted me to tighten up my anti-spam parameters. Hopefully I'll get a lot less now. If not, then tighten again...

Be careful with that if it's a server side filter. Never tune a spam filter past 90-95% anything in that range is gold. Attempting to go past that is just going to (cost you ham) FP/break it.

As a user of Windows 8 for about 3 weeks now, I can say that I do not see the issues with the interface, operation, or configuration of the OS. I am actually quite enjoying it. It is well thought out and works quite nicely. Even made my 3 year old laptop feel a bit snappier.

You're trolling us aren't you... :)

I'm not quite that happy with it, but I have had in on my laptop for a month or so and haven't had any major issues. Old habits do occasionally trip one up, but overall its been fine.

I've got it running on a touchscreen AIO here in my office that I've shown to a few clients that gave mixed but semi-positive responses.
