note that you can only get the software to pronounce words that it has saved in its database, it will remain silent if you enter a word that is not saved there. This is for instance the case with many names or places

@app103; I assume that you have upgraded from the version you won five years ago, so you probably already have so many features that I guess only the $99 expensive Ultra Recall "Professional" may have your interest. I don't know if that will be discounted, like the Standard will, but the Pro version is really handling an impressive number of file types:

preferences.txt is changing okay as it should. However, something on my Vista is not in agreement with CPK; only the first installation was recorded to Start with Windows; now it won't even do that. I have some other problems with my computer, so I suggest you forget about all this. I will be back to test if your next version is acceptable to my sick PC - I want it to!

sorry that I didn't come back to answer your questions, but it has been night around here - and now I am off to work. Anyway, you solved the problem, thank you, ehh... that problem! I have unchecked "Start with Windows" because I use a startup manager to delay CPM's launching - I start it Minimized to tray. I have also unchecked both 'Show splash' and show 'Tip of the day'. Nevertheless, they are showing at startup - 'Tip of the day' even from the beginning each time. So I guess it is not saving changes. But maybe that has to do with the way I start it? And following for the first time ever, my startup manager didn't set an icon in the systray.
