JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: Install/startup problem wit GridMove
« Last post by jgpaiva on May 08, 2007, 06:13 AM »
You get the icon on the tray, but on the first run, nothing happens, right?
I think this has happened before...

Here's the post where the solution is mentioned.
Just go to the properties of GridMove and on the 'compatibility' tab, select "turn off advanced text services for this program".

Actually, that works for any site you put after that last '/'.
I think it's somehow related to the bar on the right. I think there have been similar sites here on DC. The objective was to chat with people that were visiting the same site you were visiting.
2654
Yes, i checked it out, but i found it very similar to the last version of gaim, didn't quite get the point.
Well..The logo does look better, but it also appears to be the only change :P

Depending on the chat program, you can do that.
I think Mirc has no problems with it, and msnmessenger with a-patch will work too.

Lucky you, there's a review about dialog extenders here on DC! ;)

Note for the future: google for 5 minutes. If you can't find it, ask on DC :P

Well.. For the part about the sound, there's skrommel's [ur=https://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/index.html#IdleMute]IdleMute[/url].

I have my own script for locking the screen, which works in a similar way to what you mentioned.
I already had a go at disabling screensaver and re-enabling it, but wasn't very successful. (with a script, i think it can only be acomplished by changing the corresponding registry key, and that didn't get me good results).
But i'm sure someone will know how to do it ;)

Developer's Corner / Re: AutoHotkey how to allow multiple inputs?
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 30, 2007, 09:02 AM »
I'd go for a .ini file in which you'd declare the number of elements to read. Here's how i did it for GridMove:

Spoiler
[Groups]

  NumberOfGroups = 3

[1]
  TriggerTop    = [Monitor1Top]
  TriggerRight  = [Monitor1Left] + [Monitor1Width]  /2
  TriggerBottom = [Monitor1Top]  + [Monitor1Height] /2
  TriggerLeft   = [Monitor1Left]
  GridTop       = [Monitor1Top]
  GridRight     = [Monitor1Left] + [Monitor1Width]  /2
  GridBottom    = [Monitor1Top]  + [Monitor1Height] /2
  GridLeft      = [Monitor1Left]

[2]

  TriggerTop    = [Monitor1Top]
  TriggerRight  = [Monitor1Right]
  TriggerBottom = [Monitor1Top]  + [Monitor1Height] /2
  TriggerLeft   = [Monitor1Left] + [Monitor1Width]  /2
  GridTop       = [Monitor1Top]
  GridRight     = [Monitor1Right]
  GridBottom    = [Monitor1Top]  + [Monitor1Height] /2
  GridLeft      = [Monitor1Left] + [Monitor1Width]  /2

[3]

  TriggerTop    = [Monitor1Top]  + [Monitor1Height] /2 + 0.1
  TriggerRight  = [Monitor1Left] + [Monitor1Width]  /2
  TriggerBottom = [Monitor1Bottom]
  TriggerLeft   = [Monitor1Left]
  GridTop       = [Monitor1Top]  + [Monitor1Height] /2 + 0.1
  GridRight     = [Monitor1Left] + [Monitor1Width]  /2
  GridBottom    = [Monitor1Bottom]
  GridLeft      = [Monitor1Left]

VIM! :D
(through vimdiff)
Although winmerge is pretty good.
I also like eclipse's diff, but that's much more related to code.

This one should work.. ;)
RegEx Pattern: ^eject (.):? (.):?

EjectCD $$1: $$2: | "C:\Program Files\SysTools\EJECT.EXE" $$1: $$2:
(the ':?' is just so that you can still optionally put the ':' there)

[edit] corrected error with the pattern [/edit]

I'm not sure if apt is that much better than Gentoo's portage or fedora's yum or freeBSD's pkg_add, etc,.. but it sure is better than nothing at all! :)
Apt might not be superior, but synaptic is way superior to suse's equivalent (can't remember the name), in the sense that it's so damn easy to add the universe repositories. In suse, it takes some effort set that.

(notice that i say this because one friend of mine that iliterate in this kind of thing added the repositories in ubuntu in 20seconds and after 2 hours of fidling with suse, gave up)

ps.
i'd like to hear feedback regarding whether the large icon display mode should be default.
I tried the large icon display and found it very appealing.
The only reason i haven't kept it was because my screen is wide, thus, not very tall. This means that using that kind of display for browing through directories makes it impossible to see more than ~10 entries, which is definitelly not enough.

If there was a way to get the display to change when using directory search, i'd support that change, though ;)

Ok, here comes yet another flame war...  :mad:

People definitelly should stop making these comparisons.

As a university computer engeneering student, i have to use linux for my studies. But that's about as much as i use it.
My opinion is that the comparison they made isn't very fair. From what i've used of ubuntu, it is quite imcomplete, and probably a comparison of WinVista vs OpenSuse would probably get much more similar results.

I was using Ubuntu untill a few days ago. I have now switched to OpenSuse and i'm surprised how much more complete it is.
Currently, the only thing really anoying me in linux, is the fact that there's no way for me to connect my 21' monitor to my laptop and use it as i do in windows. (apparently, that's a failed battle at the moment. but i'm sure they'll figure it out soon..)

Find And Run Robot / Re: how do i.. with an alias?

For the first one...
RegEx Pattern: ^eject (.*):?

EjectCD $$1 | "C:\Program Files\SysTools\EJECT.EXE" $$1:
(notice the ':' after '$$1')

As for the second part, see 'Keyword Modifiers' in the advanced section of the help file. ;)
2667
Well... For that, you don't really need to recompile it.
GridMove already supports custom icons. You only have to put your custom icon on the /images folder, with the name 'gridmove.ico'.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Newbie: Find only in active directory window ?
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 25, 2007, 06:31 AM »
Well... That option doesn't exist. (at least, not that i know of, let's see if mouser surprises us ;))
But... You can navigate in farr to the directory you are and type the search.
Imagine you're in 'c:\programs\findandrun\' and you want to file 'FindAndRunRobotSystemTrayTrigger.exe'.
You can type in farr:
c:\pr\find\trigger

and it'll find that file.

#e::Run,explorer
:)

As for the letters, i think it'd be a bit easier if you said which letters you'd like it to work.
(i don't think i can recognize if there are any disks or not).
I recoment '<' to be the 'something' you mentioned, since it's not that much used. (notice that it'd still work alone, it just wouldn't work for repetition).

 ;D ;D
Interesting idea!
I'm not much fan of broadcasting myself though a video camera, but i sure can appretiate the idea.
I specially like this part:
[...] 5 Minute Friend simultaneously reminds us to make the most of the time we have. Five minutes may seem like no time at all (name one thing that only takes five minutes? Okay, name two.), but you might be hard pressed to generate true quality time with your new friend

Very interesting concept, i think.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: convert time
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 21, 2007, 06:35 AM »
Sorry but i don't quite get what you mean.
Notice that the script i made does exactly what the webpage you mentioned does.
To select the way the time is converted, you have to press yes or no at the beggining.
From what you described, i think that you pressed 'yes'. Try pressing 'no' at the beggining, and see if that's what you want ;)

Here's a possible solution:

;ConverTime
;By jgpaiva
;date: June 2006
;Function:

MsgBox,4,Hours/Minutes to Decimal?,Convert Hours`,Minutes and seconds to Decimal?`n  (select No to do the reverse operation)
IfMsgBox Yes
{
  InputBox,Time,Input Time,Please input time in the following format: Hours:Minutes:Seconds
  StringSplit,something,Time,`:,`:
  if something0 <> 3
  {
    msgbox,wrong parameters
    exitapp
  }
  result := something1 + something2 /60 + something3 / (60*60)
  msgbox,% result
}
IfMsgBox No
{
  InputBox,Time,Input Time,Please input time in the decimal format
  hours := time // 1
  minutes := ((time - hours) * 60) //1
  seconds := ((time - hours - (minutes/60)) * 60 * 60) //1
  msgbox,Hours: %hours%`nMinutes: %minutes%`nSeconds: %seconds%
}
Just paste that in notepad, save it as ConvertTime.ahk, download and install autohotkey and double-click ConvertTime.ahk ;)

Living Room / Re: Why Linux is better

Zaine: you have a very valid point. The apps are a problem.Although it's usually affirmed that there's a linux equivalent for anything in windows, I'd never leave AHK, FARR and Winamp (although linux has some very decent music players, i don't think any of those compares to winamp). Also, I depend on XYplorer, but i'm quite sure there must be some good file explorers in linux.

That's the reason why i mentioned i'd like that all apps would be portable, it'd make a transition to another OS way easier!

Living Room / Re: Why Linux is better

I think as time goes on you'll see more cross platform stuff here, as people become more aware of different platforms and their 'developers curiosity' crosses the OS boundary. It all probably heavily depends on the tools people are used to when developing their applications.
Although i'm not much of a fan of linux and love windows (XP), i also think that's "the way of the future". At least, i sure hope so. I'd love to see these diversity problems go away and have everyone working together towards a greater good. (yeah, i'm not joking, i'm just inspired)

As f0dder mentioned, wxWidgets has a larger overhead. For me, that's the sole question right now. I think java is pretty decent, but usually, anything that is more compatible, more simple, etcetera, uses more resources. But our resources increase every day, and i think that someday we'll have enough to not care about the power we lose making stuff compatible.

A good example is Unicode/ascii. Sometime in the near future, i hope ascii will go away and unicode will become the new ascii, so that all controls support it and we don't have to have more work to make unicode-compatible controls.

(too long post, too less content. this can only mean 'too much need for sleep)

BTW, CPU on latest Opera jumped to 100% just a minute ago.
I had a friend that switched to IE7 because his opera would jump to 100% every few minutes. Never understoo what it was, though. (i never got that, except when loading a giant image or flash..)
