Screenshot Captor / Re: MINICAP - HOW TO DISABLED ERROR MESSAGE BOX.
« Last post by mouser on March 06, 2018, 01:49 PM »
Looks like it's a conflict with trying to write to the same filename simultaneously by multiple process at the same time.  Let me reproduce it and then add a few different ways to fix it.

But try this in the meantime: Add $uniquenum$ to your filename, such as:

minicap.exe -capturedesktop -cursor -compress 5 -exit -save "C:\MINICAP\%COMPUTERNAME%\%USERNAME%\ $dt:%Y %B %d  %H-%M-%S$ $uniquenum$.jpg"

I'm not sure that will solve it, because the problem may be that the file is being created by another process between the time it checks for an existing file and the time it tries to save it, but give it a try and let me know.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Feature request. autnumbering stamps?
« Last post by mouser on March 06, 2018, 05:00 AM »
I'm trying to think of a way to do this easily.  It would be fairly easy for me to make it easy to make a bunch of arrows with numbers on the end.. Currently there is no easy way for me to combine objects like a stamp shape with text inside it, etc.  That's something I'd like to add.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Opening Favorite Folder
« Last post by mouser on March 03, 2018, 06:18 AM »
Ok let's see.. Can I assume that you have the latest version?
When you say your directory nodes -- you mean nodes where they are supposed to show the contents of a folder in a menu?
Or are you talking about nodes that you click and they are supposed to launch windows explorer and open the folder?
What happens when you click them?
Have you looked at the node from the LBC config, does it show the correct path?

Have you tried restarting LBC?

When I look back at the blog items I post linking to interesting developer essays and articles, many of them are originally from osnews.com.  OSNews is a frequently updated blog that posts lots of small items every day.  While nominally about operating systems, they really cover a much broader domain including websites and technology companies.  They do an outstanding job of bringing early attention to interesting technology essays that I don't see mentioned elsewhere.

Developer's Corner / Article: 20 months tracking down an elusive bug in code
« Last post by mouser on February 27, 2018, 12:44 AM »
Nice article on tracking down an elusive unpredictable problem that was related to an operating system bug.

Flaky failures are the worst. In this particular investigation, which spanned twenty months, we suspected hardware failure, compiler bugs, linker bugs, and other possibilities. Jumping too quickly to blaming hardware or build tools is a classic mistake, but in this case the mistake was that we weren’t thinking big enough. Yes, there was a linker bug, but we were also lucky enough to have hit a Windows kernel bug which is triggered by linkers!

I suppose that mouser simply forgot to update the version information on Screenshot Captor page, which still shows version 4.27.3.

Yeah what happened was someone found a bug in the new version very soon after I had posted the update.  It wasn't a show stopper but was something that I wanted to fix quickly. I was hesitant to post a new update version that would make people have to re-download a new version right after they just downloaded the last one.  I have updated the web page but not the update checker.

I will try to look into better scanning of encrypted packets.

UrlSnooper / Re: Auto Network Adapter Detector Failed
« Last post by mouser on February 26, 2018, 09:46 PM »
The Auto-detect feature simply opens a web page and checks for some text it expects to see there.

From your screenshot I can see that you've changed the web page it opens, so it's probably the case that it's not finding the text you've told it to expect.

But the main thing is this -- the auto detect adapter is not a feature you need! Once you have correctly set the adapter and can see packets being scanned -- just turn off auto-adapter detection and don't worry about it anymore.

Now as for playing a video on youtube and not seeing good results, this could be for any number of reasons.. In the modern day there are lots of streams that have no simple streaming media links that url snooper can detect, and https encrypted traffic can hide streaming media urls.

I don't see any reason to be so harsh on them -- it's a short little review with one confusing sentence.
