i wear a special pair of super soft gloves i bought just for the job, so i've never had trouble with scratches.

i prefer to rewind a dvd back by hand. it takes a long time but at least you know it's done properly.

and i'd just like to say i've never had a problem with a dvd yet, so there.

thanks.

i will do.

Living Room / Re: digg rigging?

not sure if i'm really saying anything here but i've not looked at digg since the DC GTD experiment started - i've not even thought about looking at it. it doesn't feel like i'm missing out on anything either.

yeah, ebay, it's worth a try. might take me quite a while to make one candle though. if you want to put an order in i'll make sure you get the first one - might be just in time for christmas.

picking your ears ain't so bad as it doesn't involve touching your face - something i assume is considered sacrosanct when it comes to prodding around - so it appears more disturbing.

maybe it's an evolutionary thing - more disease is spread through nasal pickings than ear pickings - i don't know.

Mark, i first read 'Do It Tomorrow' (the first time-management book i ever looked at - urlwolf recommended it) and it really grabbed me. i've praised it elsewhere on the forum and i think it still stands out as the best, most direct, material i've read for self-motivation.

i then read 'How To Get Everything Done' which was almost as good but i could see that DIT had improved on the ideas it contained.

i then went on to read 'How To Make Your Dreams Come True' and i felt completely lost and confused. i could see the positive ideas but overall it seemed at odds with the DIT theories that i had really been struck by.

now, a few weeks have passed and i have to say that my 'natural' way of working is more akin to what you were doing with HTMYDCT - perhaps because i've neglected to make any lists recently or do much else besides just get on with the tasks i wanted to do.

i made a request, that urlwolf would ask you in the phone interview about how you reconcile the your 2nd book with your first and third books. at the time i made the request i was sufferring from wanting to have strict guidelines given to me about how to procrastinate less - now, i think, i'm beginning to see that you can choose a method for a particular time and task, so i'm not entirely sure if i still think there is anything at odds with your 2nd book.

still, if urlwolf gets the chance to put the question to you then i hope you can provide an answer for the podcast. if not, then i hope you'll be able to say a few words here. i don't think it's such a problem for me now but it would be nice to know what your thoughts are.

(i think i will even reread HTMYDCT this week as i feel i need to look at it without my original prejudice.)

it's my very own hair grip - i bought a pack of them just for the job.

cotton wool tips are rubbish. with a hair grip you can use it like a shovel and do a really good scrape. ah, i love it.
2633
my favourite gadget is a hair grip.

i use it for cleaning out my filthy ear holes - try it, it gives immense pleasure.

(don't try it if you are so dumb you will poke your eardrum.)
2634
i'll have to read the book but my first reaction is too say, perhaps activities can be done simply because you enjoy them - regardless of how well they are done.

this is a flippant remark for me to make, so i assume there must be more to the idea than merely doing what you are good at.

i'd guess it's how you define your goals/satisfaction. if you are doing a task in the hope it will make you become wealthy but you are absolutely terrible at the task then i'd agree you need to stop it - that's almost insanity. the problem might be that you just don't know that you are terrible at the task - isn't it true that humans tend to believe they are above the average at (almost) everything they do - this impossibility escapes our reasoning.

i'll certainly have to read the book...
2635
good luck then, tomos.

welcome, Rohit.

looking forward to hearing more, redhat.

(maybe you should submit a little piece for the DC podcast - more UK accents can't be a bad thing  ;) )

here is another wallpaper (or whatever they are). there are two more but i'm going to put them on hold until i've got other things out of the way.

again, it's 4:3 standard size - 1600 x 1200 pixels.

i'll make widescreen or dual screen if there is a request to do so.

edit

widescreen version now here.

edit

'binary' - more traditional/minimal wallpapers now added.

widescreen versions are 1900 x 1200 (not the usual 1680 x 1050).

edit

just realised i got the widescreen ratio wrong - should have been 1920 not 1900. corrected wallpapers uploaded.

that sounds like a great experiment to try, app. it's also good to hear that you managed to accomplish your chosen task.

the only thing that strikes me as possibly going wrong with your isolation experiment, is that after the novelty period has worn off you'll start to avoid the room(s) where the task takes place. i'm sure your subconscious will be capable of inventing reasons why you should not go into the room.

basically, i'm just saying, be aware - i feel that the task and the room will become one and the same thing.

i really hope it works for you and it will be interesting to hear how you carry on after the first week/month. do please keep us informed.

as for my task/project that i had set myself to finish by the end of september - it was the cody wallpapers. i almost got everything done - there are a few unfinished that i still seem to be avoiding - hopefully i'll do them today. but, overall, i have to be pleased that i managed to get most of the project done.

how did everyone else do?

did anyone not manage anything at all?

;D ;D

but then again cody is a hard fella. look at that beach scene, by the time he go to there he had lost a leg and an eye.

the shark got him!

(as you can see he didn't use a rowing boat to come ashore - he's too small to reach the oars - but unfortunately when he tried to fly to the island, the weight of the shovel he was carrying caused him to fall into the sea - hence shark food.

or, maybe he got the injuries whilst fighting off the figure standing on the ship - i really don't know - cody has a secretive side and won't tell me.)

Awesome wallpapers, nudone!
Too bad they didn't fit with my window decorations and pretty much everything else. I tried,... then tried making the image a bit darker, but i just mutulated it :(

if you send me a screenshot of the problem i'll see if there is anything i can change - just for you.

i agree, sri. i certainly like the look of some of them. might have to pinch some of the styles for future work.

(i don't like not knowing who some of the artists are that did them.)

new wallpapers (set 02).

these are just standard 4:3 ration at 1600 x 1200 pixels.

i'll do the widescreen and dual screen versions if there are any requests for them. if there aren't any requests then i'll do the larger versions when i get around to them - there is another wallpaper set (set 03) waiting to be finished.

i hope you enjoy them...
