Living Room / Re: The Boozernet...
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 18, 2011, 01:37 PM »
I spilt beer in my old laptop while pretty drunk a few months back. Shorted out most of the keyboard and some of the ports. It was alive enough for me to backup however and still kind of works. Except it sometimes keeps typing 6's for some reason where the only temporary fix is mashing random keys until it stops.

ITS POSESSED!  :hanged:

Have you tried CMD.exe?

copy C:\foldername\*.* d:\foldername\*.*

Failing that, what about uploading said files to a temp FTP account, then re-downloading them all (Its a chore I know, but certainly an option)

Also, you could try in Safe Mode, or using the default windows Admin account?

FTFY (Fixed That For You) is quite common on Slashdot and I'm familiar with it as a result. Same use as IFYP.

- Oshyan

Heh, "IFYP" has also NEVER been used on DC before (Just typed it into search!)  :D

just because its not perfect, doesnt mean its not a handy service for something like your wanting.
I'd rather avoid anyone having to dodge spam buttons and the like, if I'm tying to describe something technical.

Hehe, don't worry, I do completely understand where your coming from :)

IFYP = I fix your post I feel your pain ...

I fix ur post :-)
(I had to google for it too, in spite of having seen it before)

This is what I meant (well, "I fixed your post" to be precise) - I see this used quite often in another forum that I frequent - did not think it is a strange, barely used acronym (though it is a fairly niche forum).

Not one i've ever fallen accross tbh

The Acrophobia  entry says "Acrophobia  is an extreme or irrational fear of heights." Fearing this is not irrational. More likely this is a test for insanity.
Spot on the sugar!

Theres no such thing as a "Fear of Heights" - Its actually falling to your doom that people are scared of!

Yes, I suppose I do want a free Web host, and I was thinking of instructional material for the public, as it were.  This was started by posts about using Listary with XYplorer on the recent lifetime license offer on XYplorer on Bits du Jour, where I wanted to make some screenshots (I misunderstood matters, but that's irrelevant here).  Jing is a TechSmith program and can send its output to their screencast.com Web site, where you get 2 GB of free space.  It can do either plain screenshots with simple annotations, or 5-minute videos that can't be annotated.  I was looking for a home for the half-way situation of step-by-step "how to" slideshows like Wink does.

mouser - thanks for the offer: it's just that the public might not be solely or even primarily DC.  In that case, I wouldn't feel all that comfortable.

How about a youtube channel? Just make the slideshows into video format, and upload :)

(Attached from upload from my computer using [attachthumb=1])

(Attached from Web using )

The [img][/img] WONT work if a website blocks linking to their images, as this doesnt upload it to the DC server.  However, the and [attachthumb=1] uploads it direct to the DC FTP, and will stay forever :)

I hope that helped a little :)

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: App to set monitor position/order
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 12, 2011, 12:53 AM »
Ok, this is a crazy request but I need an app that can set my monitors (physical devices) to a predefined order and position.  Like you would do in the display properties settings window.
Background: I have a laptop + 19" + 19" (via usb) and they usually map/assign as [1][3][2]

Occassionally after rebooting the monitor position gets altered (never the same) today it was...
    [2]
[1][3]

Does anybody have any ideas on how to set this through AHK?

This is a very good idea, and your not the only one whose monitor positions get randomly messed up through rebooting.

Would be interesting to see if anybody has a fix/solutions!

Did anybody else find themselves leaning when he was walking across those thin poles? :s

The best part is that the guy who is filming doesn't appear to have a safety rope or anything like that :o

He did seem to clip himself on once or twice, but for about 95% of it, he seems to be "Free Walking" the entire thing :O

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Idea Suggestion: Change Monitor
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 10, 2011, 08:41 AM »
It'll be of interest to see whether you want mealtime tracking, or, say, a twenty-four  hour summary, i.e., a regular scan to determine - and log - current location, or an activity summary scan.  That latter one could get pretty intense, methinks  ;).

Perhaps having an option for both would be fun, but realtime seems the most realistic :)

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / NANY 2012 Idea Suggestion: Change Monitor
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 09, 2011, 09:12 PM »
Ill expand on this in the morning, just wanted to get the basic idea down before I forget!

Monitor, Track, and Document ALL Folder and file moves across all HDD's.

EG:

If I move a folder named "Photos" which contains 3 other folders with X files in, and the folder has X files in, the software will track exactly where that folder and all its contents has been moved to, and store them in a log listed by date and time.

So basically, if I move a file on the 12th October, and forget where I put it, but know roughly when it was moved (even if its only a "It was last month I think", you can search for any file and folder changes in that month.

Should have a powerful search option, should also have a folder content listing, so you can see what files where in said folders.

This should track EVERY MOVEMENT of EVERY FILE AND FOLDER

Anyway, like I said, ill explain more tomorrow.  If I didn't write this now, I would have totally forgotten!

Welcome Welcome Welcome  :D

Stick around...ya never know...you may get hooked...

DC is kind of like the Hotel California...you can check-out, but you can never leave!
