NECRO THREAD ARISE!!!

Dino Run DX has just been released on Steam.

It looks to be a nice iteration on the original, with more features coming as they raise more money:

If I understand their website correctly, you can "donate" to their funding campaign and get a Steam key for the game for cheaper than the game costs on Steam.

Still wondering about this. Am I to assume then that it is just me? As it's happening in multiple locations on different machines ... All of which are running IE11 on Win10.

Well that's interesting. I just loaded up IE to test it. All I did was just quote a random post from this thread and stick it in a spoiler box, clicked preview, and tested the spoiler. It worked fine.

Then I decided to quote your message in the spoiler box instead of the random one and now it won't work.

Spoiler
Is it just me, or do the new Spoiler tags not work in Win10's IE11? Using Edge yes, but in IE11 I get the link-finger icon, and no reaction to click what-so-ever.

Still wondering about this. Am I to assume then that it is just me? As it's happening in multiple locations on different machines ... All of which are running IE11 on Win10.

EDIT: Spoiler seems to maybe work on actual posts, but not in previews.

Sniper Elite is celebrating its 10 year anniversary.

Sniper Elite 3 is 80% off ($10) or you can get the entire trilogy for $15.

FWIW, for ipconfig /all, when I look at the value for "Physical Address" and compare it with "Link-local IPv6 Address", I don't see much similarity.

You're right! I was misreading it. I was looking at the value for "DHCPv6 Client DUID" (which contains my entire MAC) rather than "Link-local IPv6 Address."

Thanks!

Thanks for the links.

IIUC, it may be relatively straight-forward to check from a terminal app in Android whether privacy extensions are in use:

ip a

The result may show information for various network interfaces -- for WiFi, a typical interface name is wlan0.  Examine the displayed MAC address and IPv6 address -- roughly, if the last 3 bytes are the same in both, I think it's a good bet that (at least for that interface) the extensions are not in use.

Seems disabled by default for my on the latest stock Android (Lollipop 5.1.1)! :tellme: :o

If anyone running Windows is curious to know if the privacy extensions are enabled on their PC, one can open a command prompt and type the following:

netsh interface ipv6 show privacy

I ran that command and got these results:

>netsh interface ipv6 show privacy
Querying active state...

Temporary Address Parameters
---------------------------------------------
Use Temporary Addresses             : enabled
Duplicate Address Detection Attempts: 3
Maximum Valid Lifetime              : 7d
Maximum Preferred Lifetime          : 1d
Regenerate Time                     : 5s
Maximum Random Time                 : 10m
Random Time                         : 5m27s

The "enabled" part makes me think I have the privacy option enabled, but when I check out ipconfig /all, I see my MAC in my IPv6 address...

Or maybe I'm just reading the results incorrectly.

I can appreciate the dude was going for humor.  But the premise dead ends at what is convenient.

I didn't really see it as an attempt at humor. I saw it more as a way for us to get a more "real" sense of and appreciation for how good we have it, and where things really come from. I've heard that many kids these days (and some adults, too!) don't realize that food comes from crops/farms or animals. They think it is literally created the way they find it packaged in the grocery store.

Just a few years ago someone wrote a hatemail to a hunting TV show saying something to the effect of "Shame on you for killing animals! If you want meat, go buy it at the store so an animal doesn't have to die!"

That said, I also agree with you that in order to follow his logic of "I'm making everything from scratch myself" I found myself saying "You didn't make that boat. You didn't make that knife. You didn't make that oven. You didn't make those seeds. You didn't make that [whatever]" etc.

Jimmy John's is actually pretty good.  I'd take them over Subway any day, and I used to really like Subway.  Depending on your opinion of Subway, that may not be saying a whole lot. YMMV.

I had Jimmy Johns once. It was OK. I still prefer Subway.

The video seemed like a nice teaser for the individual videos for each step. So I watched the episode on salt (so I could find out what happened at the airport!). Sadly, it was also really short and scant on the details of how to actually make salt, and it didn't go into any detail about what happened at the airport. Disappointing. :(

 As far as I can tell, both Hack and Vera Sans Mono are monospaced. Vera Sans Mono even has "Mono" in its name.

General Software Discussion / Re: Klingon Support
« Last post by Deozaan on September 25, 2015, 03:19 PM »
I was looking at something (can't remember what) just a couple of days ago and saw there was a feature request to add Klingon support. At first I was a bit amused, wondering why anyone would add Klingon language support. But then after looking further into it, and seeing the developer(s) respond positively about the request, I convinced myself that Klingon must be some tool or programming language of some kind that I hadn't heard of. I convinced myself that it was inspired by--and named after--but not actually the aliens/language from Star Trek.

It seems I was wrong.

Rejoice! Sandboxie 5.04 for Win 10 is available. Anyone here been waiting for it( beside me)? Has anyone beside created a poll? It's interesting that Sandboxie 5.04 under Win 10 uses IE 11 not Edge.

Sandboxie Poll.png

Uh... If you created that poll... it doesn't work that way. No one person here can answer for everyone else how many of us use Sandboxie. The poll needs to be something more like:

"Do you use Sandboxie?"

"Yes"
"No"

Or do you expect us to guess? :D (And how will anyone know what the correct answer is?) :o

21's Bitcoin Computer is a Raspberry Pi-powered mining tool

Raspberry Pi - the DIY computer celebrity.
Hrm, sounds like a moneygrab. Even with a "custom mining chip", it's hardly going to be able to generate any worthwhile amount of BC, considering people are running massive amounts of monstrous custom ASICs.

Yup.

Raspberry Pi: $35
128 GB Class 10 SD Card: $70
USB WiFi Adapter: $10
Micro USB Power Supply: $8
------------------------------
Total: $123

This Device: $399
??????????

I mean, OK they have a special chip and a fan bolted on there.  But really?

You're misrepresenting what they are saying.

From the LastPass "pros":

Share and send login information to other Lastpass users securely

--> No, I'm not. They give KeePass a worse ranking because it doesn't come with a built-in storage on other people's computers.

You're moving the goalposts. LastPass pros has nothing to do with KeePass cons. You specifically mentioned the bold KeePass contra:

Giving KeePass a bold "Contra" because you are not forced to store your passwords on other people's computers... LOL!

I quoted the only bold contra for KeePass, which is this:

Difficult to keep synced between devices

Again, that has nothing to do with the cloud, nor does it have anything to do with sharing passwords with other people. Nor does it have anything to do with LastPass.

Nice try though.

Those are great for running in well-lighted areas, but if you find yourself away from streetlights[...]

Huh? They are powered LED lights. Why would you need to be near streetlights for them to work well?

The cloud basically are other people's computers.

You're misrepresenting what they are saying.

Difficult to keep synced between devices

That says nothing about the cloud.

Is there any free and secure LastPass alternative that works as well with Firefox as KeePass does?

Just curious: What's wrong with LastPass in Firefox? It's free and seems to work pretty well, IMO. Or are you talking about on mobile devices?

General Software Discussion / Re: Is Windows 10 a trojan?
« Last post by Deozaan on September 18, 2015, 04:43 PM »
The problem with this is that many ISPs implement data caps. I don't want my PC uploading GBs of data to strangers and using up my data cap. Then being forced by my ISP to pay fines, "upgrade" to a higher package, or lose internet service altogether "due to abuse" of their services.

I don't do "caps" (but throttling is ok). When we moved to Canada, the ISPs are mostly horrible, but I found a less horrible one and got an unlimited plan. The overage fees here are utterly insane and completely unaffordable.

It's not always possible to get a plan without a data cap. :( And even when it's an option, it's not always an affordable option.

Honestly, I could do with a much lower "top speed" if it came with a much larger (or unlimited) data cap.
