General Software Discussion / Re: Is the Windows start menu dead?
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 20, 2007, 11:47 AM »
My only wish it to some day be able to add the Quick Launch toolbar to right-click context menus. Have seen no easy way of doing so yet.
Well.. the folder with the quicklaunch is located at:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\

Thus, placing a shortcut to that folder on your sendto menu should do it :)

From what i understand, nudone, you'd like to make some scaled drawing, right?
Well.. I think that souldn't be very easy, just take a look at the link f0dder provided. Although i'm not exactly sure about what those graphs refer to, they mention values from 20gbps to 120gbps.
I have a pretty fast connection, and all i get is 24mbps. That means you'd have to represent their tubes 1000+ times bigger than mine. Makes a scaled drawing a bit dificult.

As for the organization of the internet, i'm pretty sure i've seen a bunch of "internet maps" here on DC that contain the basic concepts like DNS and such. I had no luck with a search, though :/

I must say that's pretty amazing!!

I've bought 1gb of ram recently, to be able to run a linux virtual machine under windows (and also because 512mb just wasn't cutting it), but that is even better!

I definitelly will look into what you're doing!

Just one doubt: isn't it possible to use the loopback link? (127.0.0.1)
I own a wireless network, thus using it to connect to the linux box might make things a bit too slow for me :(

Hi cosgrovedc!

Welcome to DC.

In the display mode you're using, there's no way to show the columns, as that information is under the name of the app.
You probably are looking for this option in the display tab:

Interesting thought: farr could be categorized as a "start menu disorganizer".
I guess it does make sense that mouser would like to make a "start menu organizer" to balance the plates :P

New Farr tagline: "FARR: making start menus unuseful since 2005"

I can't find any use for my start menu. I only keep it around in the rare cases where i can't remember the name of the app i'm looking for. Still, in these cases i usually use google or DC search to find the app i'm looking for, because it's much faster than to search through all the junk i've got in the Start menu.

I honestly think there's no point to it. In the rare situations i use the mouse to access something, i use the quick launch bar, where i keep my 9 most used apps.

Actually, i don't complain about receiving spam from strange e-mails in my hotmail inbox. But i do complain about the spam homail themselves send me. Every other week i receive a stupid e-mail about upgrading my hotmail or something like that. i just feel like hitting them with a big hammer!  >:(

I also hardly notice this problem, since my opera is opened on computer startup and is never closed. Also, the unread posts page is always the first tab on it, and locked so that i won't close it :)

The only problem i find when logging in from other machines, is the fact that the url is a bit too long :( But www.dc.com is already taken  by "Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu". Who the heck are those guys anyway? >:(

www.donationcoder.com rolls off the fingertips more readily than www.donationcoder.com/forums/
Also notice that there's 'forum.donationcoder.com' (without www), which is only 1 character longer than 'www.donationcoder.com' :D

Hi andybris!
You mean you want a grid that has 3 parts so that each part has the size of each screen?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA : go to parent folder with double-click
« Last post by jgpaiva on May 25, 2007, 05:48 AM »
But for that you always need to know what folder you are in as well. It is unlikely that running cd.. would work.
A possible solution would be to send the backspace key... If nothing is selected, it'll go to parent folder ;)

Well.. I'd recomend using mouser's Clipboard Help and Spell. I use it myself and i don't even know what it means to have the clipboard chain disconnected :P

Actually, good thing you mention history.
I think that this bug related to searching in farr's history still presists...

Find And Run Robot / Re: aliases
« Last post by jgpaiva on May 21, 2007, 05:11 PM »
The F1-F9 keys are used for the situation when you have farr configured to not use digits to launch results, so that you can still launch any of them directly :)

Find And Run Robot / Re: aliases

Also I think there is a small bug: if I launch farr and decide to exit (without launching anything) by pressing Alt+F4, farr exits but always by launching one item from the results list (not necessarily the first).
;D
Actually, that's not a bug. It's a feature :P
Pressing alt+f1 launches the first result, alt+f2 launches the second result, alt+f3 launches the third result and... yes, you've guessed it. Pressing alt+f4 launches the fourth result.  That's a fast way to launch any of the results on the result list, up to f9 ;)

I don't think that the idea of using green paper on your screen is good. Probably, the strain of reading through the paper (which might not look that important at first hand, but i'm quite sure would be important on the long run) would be worse than supporting the screen's glare.

Just to let everyone know: XYplorer 6, with customizable keyboard shortcuts (Zaine must be over the moon!) is out. Check it out here.
Yep, and it's great!!
I've been lurking in the forums of XYplorer while this was being developed and was amazed how fast Don implemented this and fixed the bugs that updates brought! I must say i'm a happy owner of XY :D
