Can I hear some opinions on how important the Bookmarking mod is to people? Thats the one responsible for this page:
https://www.donation...php?action=bookmarks

IIUC you can only bookmark threads, which is of fairly limited use.

(I have used it in the past and again a bit lately, so I just saved those locally in case.)

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Show us your LaunchBar Commander Screenshots

That is excepting that I wasn't exactly crazy about the available (Delphi) background colors.  So I went ahead & mixed some of my own, which you can download right here via the attached .zip file.

thanks, they look great :-*
(Any chance of a screenshot showing in action?)

Hi Jim :-)
Try downloading using a different browser (often, if the download corrupts, another attempt to download will simply get the file from the cache - so clearing the cache could sort the problem too)

General Software Discussion / Re: LastPass alternatives? (including premium LP)

EDIT// that problem is in Iron browser (but not in PaleMoon) - can anyone confirm in Chrome?

I'm unable to reproduce this in Chrome - it's very odd still, that it happens in *any* browser.
Makes me wary.

General Software Discussion / Re: LastPass alternatives? (including premium LP)
« Last post by tomos on July 20, 2015, 11:59 AM »
One alternative is to go premium with Lastpass ($12 per annum) and get a YubikeyOne problem is that they offer four different Yubikey versions - and the comparison page is all double-ductch to me:
https://www.yubico.c...ts/yubikey-hardware/

So, interested in thoughts on Lastpass *and* also other options that might be safer to use than the free Lastpass.

You can enable 2-factor even on Lastpass free.  Use Microsoft or Google's authenticator and you're good to go.  I have LP free while I'm evaluating it, and that's what I'm using.

I've been using the google Authenticator with Lastpass and I've noticed this flaw:

Say I'm trying to login to google: I click the little symbol in the name field and the Lastpass window pops up.
I fill in my Lastpass password and (in this browser at any rate) a new tab opens requesting the verification code.
But, meanwhile, in the google tab, the name/password fields have been filled:
I am able to login there, *without* having finished my Lastpass login, i.e. without having filled in the verification code.

That defeats the purpose. I'm wondering should I report to Lastpass, or is this a case of them really wanting us to go the paid route.

^ hah, it's a variety of dulse.
That used be commonly sold at the seaside in Ireland. I'm not sure how it was prepared - I think boiled and half-dried, but not sure. Chewy, tasted of the sea, but strong tasting too, often enough with the odd baby mussel attached :-)
I liked it.
Tried some packaged dried stuff lately, it wasn't the same (I didnt like it).

So what is that E-thingy symbol and what does the pic mean?

E= Euro (€)
The image is about the fear of what would happen if Greece was pushed out of the Euro.
Search for - Greece Euro EU - that should give you lots of details.

The software is called Cameyo. Instructions on how to use it are here.

Virtualizing for your own personal use only? Go here.

I came across this today (havent tried either software)
Profile Relocater (last updated in October 2014)

Note (quote):
Please note that this application should ideally be used on new installations of Windows; PR should be used, and then the final profile should be created. See the included documentation for step-by-step information. PR will not move existing profiles as this can be dangerous.

Living Room / Re: Getting Things Done revisited
« Last post by tomos on July 16, 2015, 02:44 AM »
Revisiting the revisitation, eh?

I'm confused by this bit - see numbered interjections in quote:
So then my big wall clock broke (a little) so I moved it for a while ... and BOOM! They [staples grid calendars?#1] are heavy enough to stand up against the wall of my main desk.
[...]
The original inspiration - On the big one [the big what?#2], the boxes [what boxes?#3] are very close to a 4x4 sticky. That you can't lose! (Or get crushed at level 2 when you need any more than four pieces of info.)

But the "Trick" behind it is ...You can go Vertically / Horozontally / (pick one, not both), like a mini spreadsheet, to group the small categories together.

And for those Projects, you use an entire whole page, now giving you some 4-7 subcategories, then you make your detail notes in the column or row.

I think if I understood the queried bits, I'd understand the rest.

(maybe an image, or a link to an image if it's e.g. the calendars?)

Another full day of work, from wake to sleep, working on the upgrade.  I'm in the groove :)
Everything is progressing steadily, and I can't imagine anything getting in the way of the new forum going live in August.

It bears repeating that people shouldn't expect dramatically wonderful new features -- it's going to look and feel mostly the same.

The main point of all this work is to make everything easier to maintain and upgrade going forward for the next 10 years.

Having said that, it's clear that one benefit of all this work is that I will feel much better about adding some new features, now that I have a better hang of what is easy vs hard to maintain and what changes make upgrading more difficult.

I'm getting excited about unveiling the new forum.

great :-*

I've found the bookmark Print Friendly instead. It is by far The Best virtual printer I so far have tried - and MUCH better than any desktop "Print to pdf" I know of! It is free, and this can make you wonder why, so I went to their About -page:

works great
I see you can also embed it in a webpage - http://www.printfriendly.com/button

Still not clear how it's free though - there is mention of a Pro version  and subscription on the support page - "Pro - Ad Free and White Label Service" but it's not clear what exactly you're paying for,** nor even clear how to purchase.

**  "Ad Free"? Have you seen ads?

^Yeah, I saw it as a bit of a security risk.
But OTOH I guess if someone is going to go so far as to check the plugins page, they are going to be able to do a search on how to remove :-\

Firefox has become pretty aggressive at blocking vulnerable Flash versions. So maybe it's not necessary to uninstall Flash?

yeah, I think you're right - there's also the option to "Never Activate".
I posted more because I was suprised that unlike addons, plugins cannot be uninstalled. (And there's a few here I didnt install e.g. "Primetime Content Decryption Module provided by Adobe Systems, Incorporated 11"). So yeah, it was a more general comment.

lol, ^ that's^ a bit harsh Curt, even if I wouldnt go for that style of taskbar myself either...

@Contro,
trying to use a taskbar of that height, on a laptop with 1366x768 is not realistic, in my opinion. I think it would be impossible to avoid problems with it.
Would you consider putting your taskbar on the side, if you really want to have it always on display (I havent done this myself so dont know how well it works on Windows 8).

Living Room / Re: Does anyone here use Bitcoins?

This was interesting: Is Bitcoin going mainstream - Infographic.

Apparently it has passed Western Union as the - most popular - fastest way to send money.

that was very good - it's not too far behind PayPal either
In Germany there is not a lot of acceptance of creditcards, nor of paypal - if they are offered as payment methods, they often incur extra charges (which is fair enough imo seeing as they screw the merchant). I see Germany is one of the top five countries in terms of bitcoin use.

While waiting for Adobe to release its patch, Mozilla have disabled Flash plugin in Firefox. if you're using some other browsers, this article by How-To Geek should have you covered.

odd,
it's impossible to actually uninstall from Firefox - no simple method anyways: uninstalling Flash in programmes list doesnt remove from FF; no option within FF to uninstall plugins (unlike addons).

Going though my old plugins,
I see there are even worse culprits (Silverlight says to uninstall old version before installing current version - again it is neither possible via browser nor via uninstall programmes EDIT// found it - named *Microsoft* Silverlight :-/ ).

Is it any wonder we have security issues...

Living Room / Re: How do you resist buying ever more powerful PCs?
« Last post by tomos on July 14, 2015, 02:07 PM »
if i start thinking about it more and more and "analyzing" whether i should buy something -- the "analysis" eventually turns into my brain coming up with some poorly rationalized justification of why i should buy it and why it's really not such a large amount of money to spend.  Sooner or later it's almost as if i have to buy it just to stop thinking about it!
a friend of mine says:
- if you want something long enough, then you *need* it...

I was looking at laptops lately and was sorely tempted by a beautiful little Dell (XPS13) -
the fact I couldnt really afford it helped; also the fact you can get it a few hundred dollars cheaper in the States helped turn me against the idea.

I get this problem more with cameras. What always helps there, is reading the serious in-depth reviews: there's always a list of cons that makes it easy to think - no, I dont need this until it's better. (I'm holding out until there's a large sensor compact with at least 10x zoom - which looks like it'll take another few years.)

With laptops or desktops, I'd love silence :)
but beyond that I dont really care what's under the hood so long as it does what I need without struggling.

Living Room / Olympus Air (Hackable) Lens Camera
« Last post by tomos on July 14, 2015, 05:07 AM »
I hadn't come across lens cameras before - apparently Sony came out with the idea first, but now Olympus has taken the idea a good few steps further with the Olympus Air (available sometime in July in the States).

ZPR-olympus-air-a01-coupler.jpg

For the average user: it can be used with your smartphone - either attached, or remotely (in the review the connection still worked @ over 250 feet).
But Olympus have also made an SDK available - although not yet available via an English language page - see here. Also physical design files, so if you feel like tinkering...

Z-olympus-air-a01-phonemount2-600.jpg

what makes the Olympus AIR extremely versatile and "hacker friendly" is the fact that it has an open architecture, with Olympus providing an SDK (Software Developer's Kit), documentation and even physical design files for users to easily customize and control the camera for their own applications, as well as to spur innovation. Never before has a camera manufacturer so completely and officially opened a product to end-users, software developers, experimenters and system integrators.

To get you up and running with the AIR A01 quickly (and for those not developing their own software), Olympus also unveiled no fewer than eight smartphone apps for Android and iOS, including OA.Central which is the base app providing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity as well as basic shooting and playback, plus the framework for installing additional apps; OA.ModeDial which provides a control interface to access PASM shooting modes and adjust exposure parameters such as shutter speed, aperture, sensitivity, white balance, etc., just like on an advanced camera; and OA.ArtFilter which implements many of the company's famous photo filters and effects. Other available apps include OA.Clips, OA.ColorCreator, OA.Genius, OA.PhotoStory, and OA.Viewer, with more likely to come.

DC Website Help and Extras / Problem logging in - "check cookie settings"
« Last post by tomos on July 13, 2015, 04:04 AM »
Having a problem logging in on my laptop:
# Firefox 39.1.0 ESR /
# I use LastPass (dont actually know my dc password)
# I installed FF ESR last week - logging in to dc worked until last-night.

I get the message:
"You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings."

Cookie settings are:
# Accept cookies (I even actively added dc to allow list)
# *Never* accept third party cookies
# Keep until they expire

When I search cookies, there are 5 or 6 from donationcoder.
I have been able to login to a couple of other forums.
Using uBlock for ads - but makes no difference if I disable.

Any ideas?
