Not sure about recipes, mouser, but I am still looking for a good shopping list.  I used HandyShopper on a PPC for a long while and could transfer that to PC. But they never did get out a decent PC version on its own!

HandyShopper had databases for Home Depot, most drug store chains, grocery markets, etc., etc. Each item had a place for as much or little detail as you desired. Indispensable. But any I find online for the PC are not much more than text lists.   :(

Thanks marek!  Sorry I didn't see your reply earlier.  (Sometimes if I am online a while I see a post directly and so I don't use the email link again - which causes no more email notifications for that topic.   :) )

PS to above - J-Mac, you can install the monthly roll-up of TC UP features over previous installs.

Darwin - I can install monthly over previous installs of TC-UP only?  Or I can install over a "bare" TC only installation?  If you even know! If not I'll uninstall just to be safe. Also, do you know if it auto-reads the TC registry key? Or would I need to get something else?  (My original key from Chisler is on a floppy! At least 5 yrs old.)

Thanks!

Jim

PS - Sorry to be asking you all this, but the site doesn't appear to have a whole lot of info about TC-UP; looks like most there already know all about it from somewhere else.  TC forum maybe?

nosh: are you using mmm free or +?

Thanks.

J-Mac - TC UP (Ultra Prime) is a good "distro" of TC. Belatedly I've realised/discovered that the installer allows you to select which plugins and addons you want to install and which to leave. This means that you can run one installer and set TC up very easily and conveniently. My main beef with TC is that I can never remember how to invoke the context menu... The instructions are somewhere in this thread, I believe...

Darwin, can I update with downloads from this site? Or uninstall and install fresh?

Also it looks like they have re-numbered the versions.  E.g., I'm using 7.2a and they're latest at the Ultra-Prime site says it is 3.4.  Odd.

There are a few that befuddle me every time I look for them.  Going by memory (so some may be approximations - or what I think I remember!), I think "Refresh" is called "Reread Source", and "Sort" is called something else also -- maybe "Order files" or something like that?  Also he doesn't use anything close to the old MS standard of menubar titles: File, Edit, View, etc.  So I never know which menu to look in for a given command.  Can't remember which menubar menu, can't remember what he calls the commands....  I just can't remember much of anything anymore!

Actually when I used it all the time I got used to it.  But when you're away from it for a while they become "lost" all over again!

I just switched back to the Windows context menu.  However the first time I try to access it takes 35 seconds!  Subsequent attempts take only 3 seconds.  Which still pretty much sucks!  I don't think I'll stay with this after my initial license is up. Too much $$ for some features which require coding knowledge!

Probably give X2 a try.

Yikes!  Do you actually use many of them?  BTW, Spy Sweeper hasn't been on my PC for quite a while!  It had issues with using up 100% CPU that hey wouldn't even acknowledge back when they "auto-updated" me to Ver. 5.  I ended up removing it, as did quite a few users.  But as you can see they don't have their uninstall utility set up very well.

Too bad that the Revo Uninstaller doesn't fix past uninstall issues!  Using that now gets all pieces of apps when I uninstall!

I am using Dopus in my Windows desktop.  I also use TC at times, but I could never get quite comfortable with its GUI to use it as a full-time Explorer replacement. I have a few plugins in it but some are tough for me to get working correctly.  They DO have a forum with some helpful users but I find that a lot are very knowledgeable about scripts and such and don't like to explain much to the untrained masses!  ;D  I have used the FTP module in it and it is easy to setup and use. However one thing I noticed was that I could easily disconnect accidentally - one button that I kept thinking would return me to another view/lister or whatever its called in TC was actually the "Disconnect" button, but it was labeled something else - can't remember exactly what. But there are a few terms in TC that apparently don't translate well from German to English.

As for a Mac, it's been a long time for me:  I had an Apple II, a IIc, and a IIe waaaay back. Also the original LISA (Mac forerunner) and the first Mac.  Well, not the first they made, but the first model!  I am considering a Power Mac for a notebook now - I need a new one - but so many of my most frequently used programs are Windows only. I know about Parallel but I keep seeing a lot of complaints from users.  Decisions, decisions!  Gates is eventually going to make up my mind for me - he has me almost there now!

Oh, no problem.  I didn't realize you're still using your Windows context menu in Dopus.  Mine has just gotten too big, as you can see.  It can be cleaned up but it is all registry editing and I have never gotten ambitious enough!  Modifying the Dopus context menu is also all registry edits, or rather taking GUID numbers from the appropriate registry keys and then creating commands in scripts within the Dopus settings.  However which to place where is not explained very well in the Dopus tutorial - at least not clear to me.  It's like someone pointing out your fuel injector in your car's engine and telling you that changing settings in its command module will fix your car troubles -- but not telling you how to change or access those settings!  I guess they figure we can figure that all out for ourselves.

Me? I kept changing just enough to crash Dopus each time (twice!)

As you can see I added a submenu with the Windows stuff on there, but it takes literally a full minute to open that submenu if I mouse over it. And if my mouse moves even a touch while waiting, then the submenu opens and closes immediately. Pretty worthless IMO.

Tomos, Darwin:  I know that. I do hide the Windows menu. But with what is left after hiding the Windowsd menu - I don't see the Bulk Renamer item there.  Darwin if you do not have that checked then you are not seeing DOpus's menu, but the Windows menu.

They have a tutorial that shows how to go with the DOpus menu but to add back just the Windows items that you want. But it is not clear at all.

Jim

I do have that version, and I do see it if I use Windows context menus.  But not in the DOpus menus.  Which do you use?

I prefer to use the DOpus menus, but I cannot edit the context menus in Dopus.  They have a picture that claims to show you how, but it doesn't really show much at all, AFAIC.

I couldn't agree more, app103.  Most with tray balloons don't have an option to turn them off.  E.g., NOD32. Everytime it updates definitions it pops a tray balloon up - sometimes a dozen or more a day.  And if I am away from my PC for a few hours and it updated 6 or 8 times, it pops up that many times in a row; as soon as I close one the next pops, and the next...

Aarrgghh!!

Does 'your' renamer support Send To >  ?

I couldn't decide which one to use, but I finally grabbed the FREE Rename Master from JoeJoe, the Jackass! ...

The renaming part of this Master is the finest (thums up) and easy to work with, but unfortunately the "Send To > Rename Master" feature wouldn't work on my XP. And because I also truly disliked the totally strange navigation system this program used, I erased it. The Send To feature is vital I think, and any new renamer of mine must support Send To >

So of course I ask the DC forum:
Does 'your' favourite renamer support Send To ??
:tellme:

Curt - Have you tried "Send To Any" from OpticalReaction.com?  It adds a "Send to Any" submenu to the standard "Send To" in your context menu.  Folders and Applications.

Bulk Rename Utility (my favourite) installs a context menu option like the one Lanux notes above for 1-4a above.

Do you see that in DOpus, Darwin?  If so, how did you get it there?

Thanks.

5Gig Temp folder is Huge.  <<snipped for brevity>>

Most of that was in about 6 folders from 2 Nero installations - Ultra Edition 6 and 7.  Man do they put a lot of junk in there and leave it there!

Jim
2521
BTW, I just blew away everything in the Local Settings\Temp folder except the last two days worth.  See what doesn't like that!!

Jim
2522
Hmm.  I think a few have mentioned not having a Temp folder in the Windows directory.  Am I the only one who has one there?  I know that I didn't create that intentionally - I thought it was created with the WinXP installation.

Thanks.

Jim
2523
Oops :)
But.. Out of curiosity, what's that %temp%?

That's a command line entry that should bring you directly to your Temp folder.  Bypasses having to go through the path in Explorer.

Jim
2524
Veign,

That's exactly what I have done, kind of.  I synced the entire folder to another drive just in case.

Jim
2525
I just use CCleaner. Doesn't that clear out the temp automatically?

No - not unless you adjust some settings.  Plus, the one you see in the main interface - if I'm not mistaken - is for the Windows\Temp folder
