General Software Discussion / PawSense: catproof your computer
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 16, 2007, 07:30 AM »

peanut-on-kybd-009.gif

Now here's an original piece of software!

When cats walk or climb on your keyboard, they can enter random commands and data, damage your files, and even crash your computer. This can happen whether you are near the computer or have suddenly been called away from it.

PawSense is a software utility that helps protect your computer from cats. It quickly detects and blocks cat typing, and also helps train your cat to stay off the computer keyboard.

Notice that this actually is payware software. I thought it was a prank, but it really is a very developed program.

whoa, those are crazy big buttons!

Well.. There are better ways to make buttons, but the sire sure is out of the ordinary ;)
As for the file type, you probably should be using png, since it's lossless. (those weird artifacts on your image are caused because jpg works well with gradients, not sudden changes of color. Thus, don't use jpg for anything other than photographs)

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: GridMove discussion.
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 15, 2007, 01:01 PM »
starting GridMove I got an error that the help file couldn't be found or some thing
Does that happen everytime you start gridmove?
2504
Type "control userpasswords2" on the run dialog, and there's an option "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". I think that'd solve your problem.

Actually, Mitzevo, GridMove isn't supposed to write anything out of the directory where the executable is... Are you launching it through a shortcut or something?

best linux software ever :)

Other than that... Opera (which doesn't feel quite right under linux, though), firefox (which i usually use on linux, although i prefer opera on windows). There's also a jukebox which is pretty good, but i can't recall its name.
2509
Well... I know it doesn't make much sense, but you can always call that alias "!" ;)
The thing is: a regex pattern can't be filled out, as it can correspond to a lot of text.
For example: how should a pattern like ^([0-9]*)hello[a-z]*$ be filled out? That could represent 0089123helloaasdfasds or just hello or something else.

am i doing something wrong?

Version 2.00.129 - July 13th, 2007
[bugfix] alias results with urls were showing \ICON in results
-farr's help file
Isn't this the bug you mention in this thread?
Still not solved?

From left to right, Josh's wife, skrommel, Josh, mouser!
Hmm... Which one sucks more: my math, or my english?
The first picture only has 3 persons and i count 4 on that sentence.
Here are all the combinations i can make out of that sentence:

1 - Josh's wife is skrommel
2 - Skrommel is the imaginary person between Josh's wife and Josh
3 - Skrommel is a little girl, Josh is actually a woman and her "wife" has the looks of an army man

 :wallbash:
2512
"c:\program files" appears as the first result because that's intended to be launched by pressing -enter-. It wouldn't make sense not to be the first result, since that's the best match for the text on the editbox.

As for having -tab- autocompleting to the first entry after "c:\program files", that sounds a bit confusing, it'll probably surprise people.
2513
Thanks, that fixed it! :D
Yeah, seems to work every time. I wonder why it does work, though :/
2514
Wonderful program that worked fine at work. But on my personal laptop, it crashes, am I the only one it's happening to?
Damn... I can't understand why that happens.
Please try what's mentioned in in this post and report back ;)
2515
Does that make more sense?
It does, and i think i have the way to do it. I'll get back to you later ;)

Thanks JGPAIVA. No more problems and I also learned something new!

You're very welcome. That's why we're here ;)

That had happened to me, somehow i changed the default action of double-click on folders to -no action-, or something like that. It were weeks before i understood how to solve it, i really can relate to your suffering.

Now, the good part. There's a benign thing about that dialog. It allows you to add context menu items for stuff. I have a context menu "open in MPC" for video files, which i use when BSplayer isn't working properly ;)

Still... Proceed with caution, it can have these nasty effects.

Lashiec is right with his translation.

Apparently, there are diverging positions on that blog post. The guy writes bad as hell, he shouldn't be allowed to have a blog!!!
Truth is that i couldn't figure out if there is a virus or not. Apparently, only AVG is finding it. (I'm stating to find AVG a paranoid-maker, these posts about false positives are becoming WAY too anoying)
Well.. But his conclusion is "maybe this is just a giant false-positive".

Really sorry for not being more helpful, but i really can't understand what that guy is trying to comunicate.
2518
Lets see, I wont be tired because my wife will be driving :) I dont need home turf advantage because we train to fight on all sorts of foreign terrain. Mouser might have brains, but does he know how to use them ;-) My money is on myself and my trusty M24 sniper rifle with 2 mile optical sight.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'd love to see that "fight" live :P

Cool, it works! Which one do you use for the hide/show button?
You're looking for the ]spoiler[...]/spoiler[ tag (reverse the parenthesis)

For me, it's the B key. Strange, isn't it?

Hint: in Counter-Strike, the B key is used at the beggining of each round, to buy each piece of the equipment for the round ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: How to Slow down "notification area"?
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 12, 2007, 04:17 PM »
This thread may shed some light on tray manager.

Basically, a tray manager is used to keep the icons you'd like to see always visible and the ones you don't like, hidden.
Also notice that windows XP already does this, you can configure this, the main difference is that tray managers to this much better and some of them give you a menu with all the icons and their names (which would make it easier to choose one).

Here's how to configure the icons on your tray:
-Right-click your taskbar and select "properties".
-A new window comes up. Select "custumize", next to "hide inactive icons"
-A new window comes up. There, you can select which icons you'd like to "hide when inactive", "always show" or "always hide" ;)

If you'd like to always show all icons, on the step where you pressed "custumize", don't press that, just untick that box "hide inactive icons" and press OK :)

General Software Discussion / Re: Context menu editing

Actually, that's not related to the context menu. It's the default action for double-click on the file that is wrong.

Open windows explorer and go to: tools -> folder options -> file types.
Then, search for "drive" in the list. (should be like the second item)
Select it and press "advanced". There should appear a list of "actions". Select "find" and press "set default".

That should solve it. If it doesn't, i'm sure it's solvable though changes in the registry ;)

I'm sorry, but i fail to understand why you'd need such thing.
Why not just remove those at all, or use a tray manager to keep the icons you like always showing?

I see steve. It must be using the cokies of internet explorer.
It probably doesn't save those pages because they require you to click on that <link> tab, which appears to be javascipt.

I'm sorry but i see no simple way to retrieve those links :(
