Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Mailwasher Pro 40% off this week

There really is no good alternative to this program that I've found anyway.
-Midnight Rambler (April 28, 2018, 11:18 AM)

I used Mailwasher years ago (on Win98...) but didn't much like the then-current version.  Bayesian began to seem another term for "false positive," and back then it expected you to empty your mailbox every time you ran your email client, so every time Mailwasher ran, it started from the beginning again.  I went back to Magic Mail Monitor (freeware).  It isn't Bayesian, development is glacial if it currently exists, and MMM isn't perfect; it's often been very slow on Yahoo! UK accounts since they changed their system a while back.  But it's OK - once you've written enough filters, of course, which is tedious to start with.  Another approach I sometimes use is to write filters into the small freeware email client nPOPuk.  It takes a few more keystrokes; you have to wait until it finishes looking at the mailbox, press F5 to apply filters, then say Yes to actioning them.  Development is also moribund, but the program does work, and is more reliable on Yahoo! UK than MMM is.

Apparently Verizon or whoever now owns Yahoo! are giving themselves the right to read my emails, with the usual take-it-or-leave-it deal.  It's not beyond possibility that I may change away from Yahoo!.

HashPass

The last two have the same link.  Was that intentional or was one missed?

It was a slip-up   :-[  Corrected above and in the earlier post.  Thanks for checking.

There appear to be numerous programs/services called "HashPass;" I haven't researched the relationships between them, if any.  As I said, quite a few are available for mobile devices, so if the OP finds his missing program and can find a mobile one that uses the same hash, he would have a convenient "backup."

A DuckDuckGo search for "windows program generate password text" turned up quite a few password-oriented hash programs and web sites, some with Android (or iStuff) apps as well.  E.g.:

BTW, when replying using either Quick-Reply or Quote, neither appears to offer a means of attaching an image (or other file). I had to use Reply, which doesn't include quotes.  Is that by design?
You can use Quote first, then click Preview to further edit your reply and add attachments as desired.
Thanks!  Though I'd rather it were a one-step process, like (I think) it used to be.

Neither worked...  I clicked OK to the errors, then loaded CHS main window.  When I tried either, I got this:
2018-04-09_202827.png
Same thing happened even when I went File > Exit, and I had to force-kill the program.  I then tried re-unzipping the archive over the top of the existing installation (it's installed as portable); no change.  However, I eventually 'solved' the problem by clearing out the database subdirectory completely and re-starting CHS, so it would start from scratch, then restoring from the most recent backup.  It now appears OK.  I lost the last few clips, but nothing vital, and CHS is now back in business here.

I (now) have the following backup options:
2018-04-09_210026.png
As I have Backup on Program Start checked, isn't Backup All Data Every X Days somewhat redundant?

BTW, when replying using either Quick-Reply or Quote, neither appears to offer a means of attaching an image (or other file). I had to use Reply, which doesn't include quotes.  Is that by design?

I just had a BSOD when CHS's main window was open.  On rebooting and trying to restart CHS, I got this error:

---------------------------
Error..
---------------------------
Error EX4 for db file C:\NoInst\ClipboardHelpAndSpell\Database/ClipboardHelpAndSpell : DBISAM Engine Error # 8961 Header information corrupt in the table 'ClipTable'
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Clicked OK, then got this:

---------------------------
Clipboard Help+Spell
---------------------------
DBISAM Engine Error # 8961 Header information corrupt in the table 'ClipTable'
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

CHS is set as Trusted in the firewall (ZoneAlarm Free).  Is there any way back from this corruption, please?

And thanks for the bit about treeline... I hadn't heard of that.
I dabbled with a very old version, years ago, and suggested it here because it seems to have the fields that @c-sanchez wanted (see the screenshots).  It's a strange beast, hard to uninstall without using something like Revo, but it's multi-platform and now apparently portable.

As for its screen, sound quality, signal, robustness? I think that would matter most for me.

it's easy enough to find reviews of almost any phone on youtube or wherever

I know, but it may be hard to distinguish the trusted ones from ads. But I will have a good read.
For technology available in the UK, you could do worse than visit Expert Reviews - The latest technology reviewed by experts.  This web site is owned by Dennis Publishing, who also own the UK magazines Computer Shopper, Computeractive, PC Pro, and Web User.  The web site appears to offer all the reviews that were published in the paper magazines.  You have to wade through lots of adverts, but there's no other cost.

I think is better if is possible make a database for accounts, password, phones, and so with just one db file.

Indeed I've send a message to MemPad developer requesting for this (make some option to save notes in tables)
Like this: https://s6.postimg.o...horizontal_list2.png
I'm not sure if it is exactly what you want, but the closest-appearing thing I know of is TreeLine:
Some would call TreeLine an Outliner, others would call it a PIM. Basically, it just stores almost any kind of information. A tree structure makes it easy to keep things organized. And each node in the tree can contain several fields, forming a mini-database. The output format for each node can be defined, and the output can be shown on the screen, printed, or exported to html.

Ehm, the Kirby Software site is alive and kicking, and they officially support sending e-mail. Have you tried getting support there?
Hi, Yes ,I have emailed them, I just thought id try here also, as awaiting reply from 'Kirby'  :P
Kirby Alarm is a great program - I still it use it on (sigh) Vista Home Premium.  But Kirby Alarm is somewhere around the same age.  Its last update was April 13, 2008.  Well, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Whatever the merits of the foregoing, it's crystallised something about this blog for me.  Whoever writes it is very prolific, and tends to offer uncritical announcements.  Getting a heads-up on something I didn't know about has value, but I'd rather have deeper analysis, and especially discussion of the relative merits of different programs that do more or less the same thing.

For the sake of completeness, but the Word-enabled ones are payware:

Silver Age Software

Text Aid Kit:
    provides basic search and replace (grep) functions;
    search and replace text in small, plain text ANSI files;
    supports regular expressions.

Office Edition:
    in addition to Text Aid Kit's functions:

    search and replace text in Microsoft Office documents;
    collect text from multiple files.

Text Workbench:
    surpasses the junior editions in every aspect:

    search and replace in UTF-8/Unicode, MS Office files;
    process files directly on an FTP server;
    has a built-in text editor;
    multilingual user interface;
    supports scripting and automation via COM: new ActiveXObject("TextWorkbench.Application");
    handles files of up to 263 bytes (8 exabytes).

New Max length of long file names?
xplorer² now supports path with lengths of up to 32768 letters. That should cover the most verbose file organization cabinet!
With a file name that long, who needs file contents?

Aliette de Bodard's trilogy
Aliette de Bodard is one of the panellists in the 2017-03-13 edition of:
BBC Radio 4 - Beyond Belief, Science Fiction
Science fiction has perhaps been unfairly dismissed by many critics and academics; seen by some as a niche genre, not befitting the elite group of literary works deemed to be 'high art'. While some examples ofscience fiction could be criticised for perpetuating fantasy clichés, others undoubtedly explore the biggest questions of life. Fans argue that the Sci-Fi universe allows the audience to suspend their disbelief about what is conventional, and opens up a space to explore philosophical, ethical and religious ideas in a relatable, absorbing and entertaining way. So how has religion been explored in the most influential works of science fiction? And what does science fiction have to tell us about faith and religion?

Robert Beckford discusses the role of religion in science fiction with Aliette de Bodard, a writer with an interest in the interplay between science fiction and religion; Roz Kaveney, a writer, poet and critic; and Dr Sarah Dillon, author and Cambridge academic who explores science fiction in literature and film.

Notetab - no macro as far as I can see.
I should have been clearer.  It doesn't have "watch my fingers, record and repeat" macros.  Instead it has a macro programming language, what they call a clipbook.  That is, you have to write code.  In the attached screenshot, the tabs along the bottom of the editing window are some of the different clipbooks Notetab Light ships with.  The narrow pane at the left is the contents of the selected clipbook.  Toggle that pane on/off with F4.

After installation, looking around for macro features, then closing and relaunching, the trial period is over and one is sent to the Purchase website. ha!
I wouldn't have expected that.  Still, save yourself some money and try out the Light version.  You can download it here.  I used it for the screenshot to show it has the clipbook system, though I'm told its engine works a bit differently than Notetab Pro.  Apart from the Help file, the best place to get help on the Notetab editors is the three Yahoo! Groups for beginners, clips, and scripts, of which clips is by far the most popular.

You could do it with Notetab Pro, which supports PCRE, though I'm not sure if the latest version.  I don't know if freeware Notetab Light can also do "clipbook programming," their name for Notetab's macro language.

Otherwise, MilesAhead's suggestion of sed is sound.  Another useful source is the seder's grab bag.  If sed can't do what you want, or its syntax is too cryptic, try AWK; Awk  FAQ.  Notetab Pro knows how to run AWK scripts, also Perl scripts.

Another approach: try Andrew Pipkin's Minitrue, a Search / Replace Utility (Named after Orwell's "1984").  It supports extended regular expressions.  If you're on Windows, you might want to try the version of Minitrue recompiled by Jason Hood to better support Windows LFNs.

That would make sense, because "My apps & games" has two columns, one for (currently) "Installed," the other for "All."  I was a bit concerned they might be monitoring actual usage.
