Its exactly the sort of test an end user will make, if it isnt faster/slower/better/worse on his/her system then what it does on an unused PC is irrelevant to them, and I for one appreciate hearing users feelings about a program rather than what it should be capable of in an ideal environment.

Ummm... who in their right mind would use the mouse while composing an email message? :o

Ahhh well, not that I do, but it is a big assumption to assume anyone is in their right mind  ;)

An $8 IBM laptop is a good investment

It'd be a great investment if it had a big hard drive in it!  ;)

I find i'm using just 2 file managers now (well, i wont include explorer tho i do use it at times).  XYplorer for all those day to day things where a single pane at a time is fine, and total commander (the Ultima prime variant) for when i want to do some (for me) heavy duty copying or moving where i find 2 panes and the the options better on TC.  Of course a lot of this is no doubt that i'm just too lazy to investigate all the options of either.  :)

Interestingly my version if set to stay in memory longer, never seems to release memory and stay up around 20,000, either of the other 2 options do, with minimal it goes to around 1200 and on average goes to around 3000.

Like Darwin says there are, but you can do that with CCleaner, it is in the advanced options Hotfix Uninstallers,  but if you delete them then need to uninstall you could find a problem  ;)

czechboy, I have the version which mouser put out to try and solve the office launching problems, which, by the way it seems to have done (at least for me)  , so im not sure what to try, I've deleted the plugin and reinstalled in all the different ways i can think of and while fscript.dll is present FARR wont start  :(

General Software Discussion / Re: Let go of your bookmarks!
« Last post by Grorgy on June 15, 2008, 11:02 PM »
I use them as a first step to finding things, I have 3 or 4 hundred sites bookmarked, I find that I have trouble finding a site again, particularly if it is something like a site that has fonts or something which to me is a bit obscure, and there are so many of them, and mostly so confusing to the novice, I don't use them often, but they save the day sometimes.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Character Table Plug-In
« Last post by Grorgy on June 15, 2008, 03:39 PM »
Every time i try to use this plugin i get a runtime error on FARR  "this application has requested the runtime in an unusual way..."

so click ok and get the encountered a problem and needs to close dialog box so i click for more info and i get this
AppName: findandrunrobot.exe    AppVer: 2.0.0.140    ModName: fscript.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.7    Offset: 000187b6

As soon as i delete the character table plugin directory FARR runs again as expected.

Any ideas?  What is my computer missing?

What can you do with above mentioned products that you cannot do in EverNote?.

I decided there was nothing, so I have gone back to just using evernote, its easy, it works, and its so easy to synchronize.

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR not launching stuff
« Last post by Grorgy on June 13, 2008, 03:23 PM »
With it ticked i could not launch anything which was a shortcut from the start menu, i could go and find the exe and that worked.

Unticked it would launch the shortcuts apart from the microsoft office ones and endnote

Find And Run Robot / FARR not launching stuff
« Last post by Grorgy on June 13, 2008, 02:40 PM »
my laptop has decided FARR shouldn't work.  I have updated FARR to most recent version, tried going back to last stable release and so on, but FARR sems to only want to launch superflexible fiile synch lol. Everything else i try and launch either has no effect at all or launches the quickdoclaunch and nothing else.

Any suggestions as to why this may be happening?

Edit   It works fine on my desk computer, its just the laptop thats got its knickers in a twist

you can change a lot of those things by clicking next to the format string and it gives a drop down box with background text and so on.  should be able to change most of what you want there

Courtesy of freedownloadaday.com a site which has, to quote

Planet eBook is a great way to grab electronic versions of many works of classic literature. They've got dozens of great works of literature that you can download for free. These volumes are items that the copyright has lapsed on (George Orwell's 1984), or works that are in the public domain (Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol). they run the gamut from Grimms Fairy Tales and Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche.

The books are available as PDF.

Looks interesting kartal, have you had an opportunity to try the synchronising?  That would make it almost ideal for me if that works well, i will give it a go later if you haven't tried it.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Access Violation
« Last post by Grorgy on June 11, 2008, 11:23 PM »
Yes.  I've had the plugins installed for some time now.  (haven't really used them much but i was getting used to them)
The error occurs at shutdown, i have not seen it at other times,
By active i mean they are loaded, in the list with a tick next to their name and the plugin itself actually works fine.  (Tho i wouldn't know about send message, it was just on the list, i installed them all  :-[ )

Sorry if i was a bit vague before, hope this helps.

That particular error went away, I now get a 'EAccess Violation'  if the following plugins are active.
Network connection
Printer List
Process Kill
Send Message

I found this out because it worked fine on the laptop, but i got the error on my other pc, so i started with just FARRFOX and the LOC one, and started enabling the others 1 at a time then rebooting

Hope this helps

Living Room / Re: Where does the power go when I save it?
« Last post by Grorgy on June 09, 2008, 04:53 AM »
I think J-Mac is basically right, but your base load demand needs to drop below a level where a generator could be powered down.  Saving bits here and there if done by enough people may help slow the rate of increase in power generators but it will take a lot to actually get it to fall to a level where one could be turned off i would think
