Screenshot Captor / Re: The Print -Icon... do printout immediately
« Last post by AbteriX on June 11, 2010, 04:47 AM »
Stop, wait.

my thinking was, use the File menu if you want the print dialog.. use the quick toolbar button if you want a quick immediate printout.
That's right of course... same as with WordTM ... and SC reminds the last used printer too. Fine.

Then my suggestion is to remove the three dots from the tool-tip ...and
.. show the printer name as Word does (if it is not to much work?)
 .... i would see this as an  safety feature too since the current print (secret stuff) could be
not meant to print to the printer (common used at the floor) of the last print-out from yesterday :D

EDIT: to make myself clear: the workflow Button/Menu is OK as i understood now...only the tool-tip info could be improved.

it's designed that way on purpose but i could make it an option.
Ahh, OK.
But then at least the (how the call again? ellipse?) three dots in the tool-tip of this button can be misinterpreted as "an dialog box will follow".

M>but i could make it an option
Since my default printer is an PDF-printer i have to go always  to Files menu to chose the LaserJet for real print out,
an fly-out menu "Default Printer" / "Chose Printer..." (with remebering last used?) would be handy... but
since i can use file menu and it works as you had intended...it is OK like it is too.

Thanks

tell SC to use red-box-mode when doing region capture, and this should work.
Found it
"Preferences/Options > RedBox Capture Mode > When to use RedBox? --> (o) Objects & Regions"

Have to got used to this... but seams to do what i looked for, thanks.

M>  (alternatively, use a full screen capture and crop afterwards -- this always seems more sensible to me).
Not for me, because an another window (SC) is involved.
Your way is:
App one - print - SC window - select region - copy - switch to word - paste - switch back to SC - minimize SC - switch to App one
my way is
App one - print - select region - switch to word - paste - switch back to App one

O.K., i can improve this steps  8) ,... but having to switch to&from SC for all those dozens shots disturbs here.

Anyway, thanks. I try RedBox now.

Include cursor while take a region capture
BugTracker: https://www.donation...king/view.php?id=235
I still need this feature. Is it hard to implement or just no interest?

Since i need this all the day (place the cursor to highlight an file in explorer - press Shift+PrtSc - take an region capture including the cursor - paste into word) i had to use an other tool in the past... for ever still hoping this feature would one time appear in SC  ;)

Maybe i have wait long enough?  :P

Great feature  :Thmbsup:

I do this often with msPaint: cut out an region, cut out one part of the two remaining parts and paste it again to fit to the other part.

Since you add such an nice feature i will use this now instead.

But as i see, the positions of the prior inserted objects (box, arrow) are not recalculated and moved with the background...
>> improvement idea... or just remember to insert the objects after the splicing?  :P

Do you know how to make the font used to display the code any larger? I've been searching the menus but so far have come up blank.
-HankFriedman (May 25, 2010, 02:19 PM)
I shown you all that with my screen shot above.

CoffeeCup free doesn't show a preview at the same time as the code    :(
-HankFriedman (May 25, 2010, 12:26 PM)
Yes it does, see my picture (click on it)... it is not faked  :P
Try pressing the F12-key in CoffeeCup.

Curt,

Thank you for the suggestion. the CoffeeCup program is definitely closer to what I'm looking for -- but not free :-(

and I prefer side-by-side viewing but more importantly, I studied the Help section and couldn't see any way to change the display font and it's WAY too tiny as is.

Hi all. Thanks for the comments. askSam 7 was released in July of 2008.
We have not released another full upgrade but we have released many free maintenance releases as well as our web publisher and free viewer.
We continue to work on new versions of our software and have some great plans for askSam V8.

askSam is not setup to run on a thumbdrive but we do have some customers who are doing it.
Our free read-only viewer will run on a thumbdrive.

We are compatible with Windows 7 -- I currently use askSam and Win7 daily.

Has anyone experiences of using this portable? (not really to run from stick,... but to carry it in the pocket and run it without installation)

General Software Discussion / Re: Universal Extractor
« Last post by AbteriX on May 15, 2010, 04:49 PM »
You are absolutely right lanux.

In case of using %P%N Total Commander adds the quotes at its own,
so by using "%P%N" we end up with ""%P%N""

Because i still use my old ini with my test from the past, which still use the parameter  "%P%O.%E" "%P%O",
i didn't notice the quoting mistake earlier. (TC didn't add quotes itself for %P%O.%E, only for %P%N)

Sorry for the confusion, my examples above are just an copy&paste-in from an older list of mine.
Maybe TC had handled the quotes different in the past, or it was because off that i didn't known it better in that old times.

Great you solved it   :Thmbsup: ... i will edit my post above the same way.
BTW, if you add an leading '?' in the TC parameter filed you will be prompted by TC to show
you the command for double check: Parameter: ?%P%N , so you find out such errors quicker.

General Software Discussion / Re: Universal Extractor
« Last post by AbteriX on May 14, 2010, 09:32 AM »
It really is quite difficult for me to install this Universal Extractor, because Outpost Security Suite will at once quarantine several parts of it, as being malware.

False positives are to be expected to some extent in any antivirus, but if it is flat out quarantining it, that seems crazy. It would bad enough if it were merely one of those so called antivirus programs that mindlessly flagged it as suspicious because of UPX compression.
Hi Curt,

you may try the de-compress the UniExtract.exe by using UPX commandline option -d
like
UPX -d  C:\Programs\UniExtractor\UniExtractor.exe

btw, what is the "/sub" for?
Thanks for the question lanux, i have modified my post above ↑↑↑

"/sub" is an UniExtractor command line parameter to extract the archive automatically
to an sub-folder named as the base name of the archive.

General Software Discussion / Re: Universal Extractor
« Last post by AbteriX on May 14, 2010, 02:55 AM »
Here's an another big fan of UniExtract, i use it on an daily base :Thmbsup:

If someone is interested, here is my collection of how to integrate UniEx in my favorite file managers:

XYplorer:

XYplorer POM (Portable Open-with Menu):
Autoextract selected archive to subfolder named as the archive:
+|"UniExtract" *>::run """<xypath>\Tools\UniExtract\UniExtract.exe"" ""<curitem>"" ""<curpath><curbase>""";

or short with UniEx parameter "/sub" (which i found out later):
+|"UniExtract" *>::run """<xypath>\Tools\UniExtract\UniExtract.exe"" ""<curitem>"" /sub";

or if you wanna be prompted by the UniEx dialog just call UniEx with one parameter (the archive) only:
+|"UniExtract Prompt" *>::run """<xypath>\Tools\UniExtract\UniExtract.exe"" ""<curitem>"" ";

XYplorer script for Menu, Catalog or CTB (Customized Toolbar Button):
"UniExtract:  <curname>"
  run """<xypath>\Tools\UniExtract\UniExtract.exe"" ""<curitem>"" /sub";

to be prompted by UniEx
"UniExtract prompt:  <curname>"
  run """<xypath>\Tools\UniExtract\UniExtract.exe"" ""<curitem>"" ";

Total Commander:
%Commander_PATH%\Tools\UniExtract\UniExtract.exe
%P%N  "%P%O"

or untested:
%P%N  /sub

or to be prompted
%P%N

Servant Salamander / Altap Salamander:
Command: $(SalDir)Tools\UniExtract\UniExtract.exe
Arguments: "$(FullName)" "$(Path)\$(NamePart)"

or untested
Arguments: "$(FullName)" /sub

or to be prompted
Arguments: "$(FullName)"

Inital Dir: $(FullPath)

-------------------------------------

FreeCommander:
To integrate with Free Commander, use this as the parameter: %ActivSel% /sub

-------------------------------------

btw, what is the "/sub" for?

"/sub" is an UniExtractor command line parameter to extract the archive automatically
to an sub-folder named as the base name of the archive.

The command line syntax of UniExtractor is
path to\UniExtract.exe [archive] [destination]
or
path to\UniExtract.exe archive /sub

For example:
X:\Tools\UniExtractor\UniExtractor "D:\Downloads\my downloaded archive.zip" "D:\Downloads\my downloaded archive"
or simple
X:\Tools\UniExtractor\UniExtractor "D:\Downloads\my downloaded archive.zip" /sub

-

For file managers this command line is made universal by using an
file manager-own parameter as placeholder for the real names as shown above
like
%P%N OR <curitem> OR $(FullName) for path\file.ext
%P OR <curpath> OR $(Path) for path
%N OR <curname> for file.ext
%O OR <curbase> OR $(NamePart) for file
%E OR <curext> for ext
%P%O OR <curpath>\<curbase> OR $(Path)\$(NamePart) for path\file

Depending on the syntax of the file manager you may use.

-

I was wondering from where *i* got this info and found it on the homepage:
"UniExtract can also be run from the command line.  Run UniExtract.exe /? for detailed command line parameters."

So you get an dialog with this text:

Extract files from any archive type or installer package.

Usage:  UniExtract.exe [/help | /prefs] [filename [destination]]

Supported Arguments:

     /help      Display this help information
     /prefs      Adjust the UniExtract preferences
     filename   Name of file to extract
     destination   Directory to which to extract

Passing /sub instead of a destination directory name instructs
Universal Extractor to extract to subdirectory named after the archive.

Example:
     UniExtract.exe c:\1\example.zip c:\test

Running Universal Extractor without any arguments will
prompt the user for the filename and destination directory.

One can set/reset the sounds in the registry, but I wonder if it is tempting fate to write/rewrite the registry...
What do you think how those other tools would do this?

   x = shell ("c:\utils\soundoff.exe off")
If you want an external tool you can try something like NirSoft NirCMD

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html

* freeware
* stand alone/portable

Examples:
Mute the system volume    nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 1
Unmute the system volume    nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 0
Switch the system volume between the mute and normal state.    nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 2

Open Task Manager , Go to Processes Tab,  right click process -> "Open File Location"

or am I missing something?
Depends on the OS one use, isn't it?

An tool like SystemExplorer (DC Link) can provide this feature for XP too.

If someone is interested i can show how to do such things with XYplorer scripting,
then you have this always with your file manager:

//Test with test files in an test folder on an second pc in an virtual machine first
"Sort files into folder according base name"
 global $criteria, $curitem;
 $action = input("Action: Copy or Move files?", "Choose from ""copyto"" and ""moveto""", "copyto");
 sel 1;
 while(1){
   $curitem = "<curitem>";
   //check if $curitem is an file:
   if (exists($curitem)==1) {
      $criteria = "<curbase>";
            //check if the folder already exist:
            if (exists("<curpath>\$criteria")==2){
                //msg "This is an file and $criteria-dir already exists.";
                sub "_$action";
            }else{
                //msg "This is an file and and we have to create $criteria-dir.";
                new $criteria, dir;
                sub "_$action";
                sel 1;
            }
   }else{
     //msg "This is an dir, we will skip this item";
   }
   sel +1;
   end (<curitem>==""), "Last item reached. Script ends.";

"_Moveto"
 global $criteria, $curitem;
 moveto "<curpath>\$criteria", $curitem;

"_Copyto"
 global $criteria, $curitem;
 backupto  "<curpath>\$criteria", $curitem, 3;
