The solution is easy: If the lock file isn´t deleted after 5-10 seconds the client obviously has been disconnected and others can update. The disconnected writer knows this also and can restart his update later. You only have to take a look at the creation-date.

The whole screen will be changed. On the top you see my program that converts the screen and shows the result in an own window. It can on the fly zoom and move parts of the screen, perhaps this could be also useful? It´s not very complicate to copy the result back to the original screen and hide the program in the background. But you also wanted fading and so on, this means I would have to change the code a little bit. I must check out how to work with changes direct on the screen. At these screenshots the original picture was on another second monitor. If you make a direct screengrap again and again you get a recursion that looks later on like this:

I made a surface-filter with edge-detection and the most surfaces in Outlook are totally the same. So you´d only see the important "differences". Fading between the normal screen, filtered screens and combinations of partial movements could do the job. Would this be an alternative? Some other examples with my creation I called "Screenflop" are the following screens.
Normal Window: Outlook normal.jpg
Filtered Window1: Outlook surface filtered.jpg
Filtered Window2: Outlook hv filtered.jpg
Screenflop1: Outlook Screenflop1.jpg
Screenflop2: Outlook Screenflop3.jpg
Screenflop3: Outlook Screenflop4.jpg

There´s only an information window (no nag-screen) at the beginning for 7-8 seconds and then disappears till you restart the program next time - a direct click closes it suddenly. That´s ok for such a great freeware. A donation will not disable it.

Would it be enough to rotate the colors and invert them every few seconds?

I don´t know wether I´ve got it from this site or another. Mine was a zip-file with no other installments. I tried it now ... it´s frightening what they did with it. The program itself is very cool.
I found a link with a pure installment like mine. I tested the ro-mirror:  WebReaper RO-Mirror

I tested several ones and decided to use Webreaper during the last years. It´s still my favourite. :Thmbsup:
BackStreetBrowser is nice, too.

Ok, it´s better to understand now. But it´s not a real binary clock yet. You could call it a pseudo-binary-clock. ;)
Please integrate a hexadecimal clock also. I´d like to see it and it´s easy to do.
Btw: The time conversion creates exceptions when there are no valid entries at calculation.

Tank you for your tips. I decided to do some small fixes/additions to the prog. Perhaps it´s better to lock not via the file system only, but with a special created locking-file during file-operations that will be deleted after work? A second pass to control datas could also be done for security reasons. The best would be to backup several times in line the full database to be totally sure not to lose all datas - they could be also used for a rollback-function.

I think a lot of people are riddling how your principles of "binary" and "decimal" are working.
Binary Clocks are made very often and you can even buy them in shops but your type of it seems kinda strange to me.
You´re only counting each tick with E (what should be ones?) and on overflow reset it to the bottom and rise a decimal tick line named Z (what should be zeroes?).
Besides, the zeroes and ones are not suiting to the numbers they represent. They should be named higher/lower decimal digit.
The usually understanding of binary counters is this:
001 = 1
010 = 2 = overflow
011 = 3
100 = 4 = overflow
101
... and so on

Here´s another Idea for an improvement:
What I never saw before is a hexadecimal counter: 0-9 and a-f -> 10 next. This would be also quite funny for coders.

I like your clock ... At the moment I try to figure out how the decimal time is working...  :tellme:.
Your kind of binary-clock is only a bit strange to read, because of the splitted 0s and 1s. Please take a look at a binary clock I made a few years ago.
Something like this would be more readable (don´t take care of the built in demo-effects - this makes you only crazy :D):
Crush´s PQAmpel

@tomos: I think with time conversion he meant the visual appearance. At the moment it´s disabled anyway.

It´s using file locking and I tested it with 2 friends nonstop over several weeks without any problems. Before updating it reloads if changes have been made before the last save and a new search.

I guess he wants to auto-update the folder-structure in his sendto-menu in realtime if new entries come up.

I´ll come up to the NANY-challenge 2009 with a Multi-User Ticket/Controlling/Noter/Idea-Management-System called CrushPad (it´s what you like it to be! :P).

You can create categories & subcategories, tickets with notes and working states, edit/delete/search them by categories/date/case-insensitive strings/working states. If the program´s running from a network drive several users can work simultaneously collision-free with the same database that´s automatic refreshing if changes are detected. Exporting the result-list after searches to .csv files for spreadsheets is supported. ;D

Developer's Corner / Patent trolling or not?
« Last post by Crush on November 24, 2008, 08:13 AM »
The most people say they have a problem with software patents, so did I ... till now. It changed after some experiences I made during my observation of other products. They would stop the progress and new inventions and often are used only to get money without working with the help of lawyers. Now I´m affected by this problem myself and want to know what others are thinking. To understand it I´d tell you about the things that happend to me.

I´ve seen remarkable inventions that were working quite good a while till some "customers" recognized that they could patent the features and forbid the real makers to work with their own invention. Often it resulted in damages that costed the inventors in addition a lot of money. They´ve gone bankrupt and had a very big debts from then on. Now I made a very special software invention that effects other software/processes/systems/physical devices and don´t want to make the same faults. The development of the product completed for about 1 year and has been tested at some selected customers with very big success and a heavy request for it. A patent is not existing in any way till now and there´s no program from others that have a similar feature/effect. So I decided to apply a patent next year. While searching for additional fitting ideas I was designing a new program. Now I found out that some firm has made exactly the same invention. I talked a little bit with the inventors and so remarked that they don´t have patented their best and biggest idea and they had a lot of financial problems during the last year. The firm hast now (this month) gone bankrupt and closed the doors. They sold their complete software bulk to a new firm last week. So I think about including their invention as a part of mine and develop my own perfect product line. This would mean I could forbid others to use the software without any personal permission or licences.

Ok, I know it´s not a very kind way to earn money this way, but don´t forget: The biggest and newest part of the invention will come from myself. The other part is only a rather small piece from the software-bulk (only one product of five or more) that has been bought by the other firm that is very very big in business. I had the same ideas without knowing from the other product. So I decided to make the other´s invention part of my patent. A lot of firms make software-patents and earn a lot of money with it even without having an own product containing their patent only by sueing others for damages. I have a ready for starting product that I want to use on my own or later on several assistants as a service. I don´t plan in the near future to give away the software directly to customers by licence because of some heavy special problems that could appear with false usage and I don´t want to be taken to court because of others´ faults. I have a small family that has to be regarded and a lot of firms have earned a lot of money with my very special work during the last 10 years. I want to stop that and do things on my own from now on. Now money is getting more important for me than my conscience relating to scriples in software-patents.

I arrived at a decision. Now I´d like to know what you think about my plan to include the other patent in mine. If you´d have the same thaughts about money and your future, would you decided the same way or not ... and why? Please only answer with a comprehensible and logical declaration that leads to your decision. Perhaps you have some hints or tips what I should do or not do because of any unregarded reasons. I´m thankful for any following helping answer and opinion.

Developer's Corner / Re: GameSetWatch: The Quandary Of 2D Vs. 3D
« Last post by Crush on November 23, 2008, 08:22 PM »
There´s no big difference in collision detection between isometric-3D and real 3D.
I love especially pseudo-3D / isogames - my favourite was Head over Heels  :-*. Oh, here´s another remake.
Personally, I´d say that 2D platforming is different from 3D in steering and feeling. So they cannot be compared directly together. Both have advantages & disadvantages. A lot of features and riddles from the 2D world cannot be transported without lose of fun to 3D and the same happens in the other direction.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Unicode??
« Last post by Crush on November 22, 2008, 12:32 PM »
I think unicode (16-Bit WChar) makes some problems. It uses more space and therefore you have to search slower through strings than Ascii. UTF8-24 is even more slower to decode/search. If you decide to use unicode it´s simplier to jump over directly to UTF32 that has no problems with all existing characters.

This app will be a commercial development, but everyone who helps with alpha/betatest or extraordinary suggestions being included will get a lifetime free full-version. The main thing I took a look at was the speed and memory-usage. If you want to test the speed I could send you a build today.

I had the Camel Disc Cataloger also in the new update of the list. I´ll send it this weekend to Tomos. The Crush-Disc Cataloger development V3 has started and so I hope to see more wishes before it´s too hard to implement them. I think about continuing an old development thread or opening a new one for it.

If you want to code it alone: Create an array of lines for both text files and compare each line with all others. If the line appears again, delete it from the arrays. The result of the lists at the end is the difference that you can append somewhere else.

Pseudo Code:
for each line in a1
  cmp line in a2
   if line exists
     delete a1.line
     delete a2.line

after this do the same again with a2

for each line in a1
  cmp line in a1

or use something like Winmerge or Windiff
   if line exists
     delete a1.line
     delete a2.line

... I think now it´s the right time to continue the disc-cataloger-list (there are some new entries) and my own cataloger. I have some operations from next week on and after this I have to stay 3-4 months in bed.  :)

I have a HD-Video Camera that can take Videos with 720p@60hz. If I need a photo I can take a simple screenshot anytime and the quality is better than the pics of my old camera and better than my mobile shots.
