Non-Windows Software / Re: Samsung J5 and free memory in the phone memory
« Last post by tomos on October 13, 2020, 04:28 PM »
I don't understand.
I have less apps than in my other mobile Samsung J3 and less space.
do they have different versions of android? That could explain the newer one having less space. What does it have, only 16GB?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Rotate text box
« Last post by tomos on October 10, 2020, 01:12 PM »
thanks.  I am not in front of the project now, but I wonder if I could adjust the angle of the screen shot/image,  Place text box. Then adjust the angle of the screen/shot back the other way.
the textbox doesn't rotate either way. You can rotate once in SC (or whatever amount of times to get text correct), then rotate in external software (I used Dopus file manager viewer) and save. I now have image in correct orientation with the text rotated.

the convenience granted by the current internet infrastructure is far more problematic than most people realize.
Worthy of a blog post. Thanks for the overview

When having a problem, I uninstalled the 2018 version that I had but reinstalled the latest version.

I just uninstalled that and installed the 2018 version.  It's working just fine and I'll stick with this version.
This is a really odd problem. AFAIK Windows Explorer is used to show the panel with the thumbnails.

Considering:

Pixel 4a  ~340€ // super (OLED) screen (some people have problems with the PWM they use to dim OLEDs, havent heard an in depth report about this model); super camera, great night-time shots; small (a pro to me)

Poco X3  ~250€ // good (LCD) screen, high refresh rate, but variable -- which causes it to stutter when speeding up; very big (this a con to me)

As you can see my main focus is on camera, and screen quality, and size. The really good low light camera makes the pixel a favourite for me atm (otoh my current phone is still working fine so, no rush).

^ I don't necessarily dislike it but definitely takes over -- it's the strongest part of your screenshot (and leads the eye away from the board).
Possibly warming the tone of the light and changing the angle of the games so they don't reflect so much? Maybe subduing/dimming the light a bit if possible.

Are you allowed install software for taking screenshots?
Screenshot Captor (from mouser here on dc) can take scrolling captures. Also available as portable download (at link above).

There is a video somewhere showing how to do the scrolling capture (not sure where though...)

Screenshot Captor / Re: Cannot capture browser windows
« Last post by tomos on September 19, 2020, 03:12 AM »
This the second reporting of this problem:

When trying to do anything with SSC with v4.36.1, it opens another tab looking for www.getwindowinfo.com which is a totally blank webpage. The version before this, it would always enlarge the webpage, making it useless to try to capture anything on the right side of the webpage because it would now be off screen. No problem with Chrome.

Every time I try to capture a browser window, (the sole reason I bought this program,) the program takes control of the browser and attempts to open a location at www_getwindoinfo, obscuring the page I intended to capture.
1. what method sre you using to capture
(2. does this happen with all methods?)

EDIT// I see Stephen asked already, no harm to ask twice though...

I reckon that's got to be an app for your country -- search in Spanish, do a bit of research to see if what you find is recommended or not. You know how it goes.

Yes, I can include version numbering inside Ini file if it helps, but more in that way (example):
Version=0.1.2.3
Ofc the app gets a version number too :-)
wont you have to replace the ini file with each update then -- will settings be lost?

1) how do I/you know how many Ctrl+z you want to do? If you dont know:

2) why not simply press and hold both Control and z keys until you get back to wherever you want? In most of the software I use this goes incredibly fast.
There are limited number of undo's: in this case Ctrl+z may no longer be of any use => versioning of some sort.
[...]
So I have ask with pspad and they give me an answer : Make a macro to undo.
And with the limit of the number of undone prescribed or allowed....
Question #1 and #2 still unanswered....

why not press Ctrl+z and hold until you reach your destination?
How do you know the limit of undo's is your destination?

Filehamster could be an option. It appears to be in development (again). Also requires active input, but iiuc is a lot simpler than full versioning system.
Forget that:
after years of no updates, they fixed a couple of minor bugs end of last year, but no support in 2020, so I would avoid.

Another possibility:

They are likely selling MSDN licenses.

About MSDN or TechNet Product Keys They are genuine Microsoft product keys, they are actually retail licenses, but it is intended for a particular product channel either the Microsoft Software Developer Network (MSDN) or TechNet for IT Professionals who pay a subscription fee.

The main purpose is for evaluation purposes. The great thing about them, unlike trial Microsoft software, MSDN or TechNet keys don't expire. Because the agreement under which the subscription is provided is a single license, none of the software should be distributed outside of it. Even though its $50,000 worth of licenses, it is for one person only to use and no one else.

Unfortunately, regardless of the licensing terms, persons still abuse the program, either giveaway product keys or resell it on auction sites. Microsoft licenses it in good faith that customers won't do so, but I guess human nature wins out.In your case, what probably happened is, you bought an MSDN licensed key, which carries up to 10 activations unlike full packaged retail licenses which only carry 1 activation.

The person who sold it to you probably sold it to 10 other persons. Somewhere along the way, one of those persons might have installed it on a second system, activated it, because it went past 10 activation threshold, Microsoft detected it that it was being abused and blocked the key from further use.

Best,
Andre

Did anyone here act on the offer last time? How did that pan out? Asking since I see that the PC World site has the price again now for a limited time. Sounds a bit too inexpensive to be true for a retail Win 10 Pro license, no?
https://software.pcw...dows_10_professional
They are a big company so I was thinking that the license must be genuine, but have a look at their customer reviews -- most are for hardware, but also software: download links not working / payment being taken and no emails received confirming payment or purchase etc. Doesnt sound like a malicious company, just sounds like a real mess ...
https://uk.trustpilo...ew/www.pcworld.co.uk

Almost all one star reviews; occasional positive reviews, most of which appear to be fake.

indicates to me that Contro might actually be in the market for a full versioning system.
Well, yes and no. Knowing the OP for a while tells me that this is way overcomplicated for the use he has, as for each change to be 'recorded' so it can be reverted, it needs to be committed, and my interpretation of his request, it seems that he would expect it 'as you type', like a built-in undo/redo, and not introduce extra keys to press or mouse-clicks to make.
Probably. (Although the request is very unclear.)
Filehamster could be an option. It appears to be in development (again). Also requires active input, but iiuc is a lot simpler than full versioning system.

Living Room / Android 11 forcing people to only use the built-in camera
« Last post by tomos on September 01, 2020, 03:47 PM »
Android 11 is taking away the camera picker, forcing people to only use the built-in camera (OSnews)
Android may have started with the mantra that developers are allowed to do anything as long as they can code it, but things have changed over the years as security and privacy became higher priorities. Every major update over the last decade has shuttered features or added restrictions in the name of protecting users, but some sacrifices may not have been entirely necessary. Another Android 11 trade-off has emerged, this time taking away the ability for users to select third-party camera apps to take pictures or videos on behalf of other apps, forcing users to rely only on the built-in camera app.

It will get much more difficult to use a non-stock camera with third-party apps in Android 11 (dpreview)
Though Android devices come with a stock camera app, users have a huge number of alternative options available in the Play Store, including ones that feature 'pro' controls. When a user attempts to capture an image through a third-party app, such as an auction app that supports directly capturing images rather than uploading from the camera roll, they may be presented with a menu that asks which installed camera app should be used.

When the Android 11 update rolls out, however, this will change and users will no longer be given this option, as recently spied by Android Police. Instead, the third-party app will default to the device's stock camera app. To get around this, users would have to first launch their preferred camera app, capture the images they need, then upload those images in the third-party app from the camera roll -- a process that would take considerably longer than directly launching the desired app.

I thought this worthy of a thread to itself. Not new news, but didnt see it mentioned here.

AFAIK it doesn't even have to be code -- I got a nany cup in 2011 for (with others implementing) a website idea (that unfortunately didn't last long - askapic.com).
Although it did get implemented so there was html -- just I didn't actually write any of it. I was the ideas man and the design.
